(Reuters) – A mother watched on Thursday as a man approached the Chicago south side restaurant where she works and opened fire, killing her two sons and two other men in a shooting that police described as gang-related retaliation, media reported.

A lone gunman opened fire just before 4 p.m. local time at the Nadia Fish and Chicken restaurant in the South Shore neighborhood, killing Dillon and Raheem Jackson, who were found outside the establishment when police and rescue workers arrived, the Chicago Tribune reported.

“I can’t go on, my life is over. I’m ‘bout to … kill myself,” their mother told the Chicago Tribune as she wept, still wearing a red apron from her job at the restaurant as her sons’ bodies lay nearby. “I was standing right here in the window, they killed ‘em right in front of me.”

Two other men were found dead inside restaurant, the Chicago Police Department said in an email to Reuters.

No arrests have been made in the shooting, police said.

The shooting was believed to be gang-related retaliation “from another incident,” a NBC affiliate reported, citing police spokesman Anthony Guglelimi.

The men were among the nine people shot on the city’s south side on Thursday, including a pregnant woman who was found dead earlier in the afternoon in her apartment about a mile from the restaurant, the Tribune reported.

That shooting did not appear to be related to the restaurant killings, the newspaper reported.

Homicides are down by about 10 percent so far in 2017 in the third-largest U.S. city after a particularly deadly year in 2016, when there were 60 percent more homicides than in 2015, the Tribune reported.

Twitch Streamers Can Now Stream In 1080p At 60fps

If you love watching Twitch streams then you will be pleased to learn that Twitch streams will be getting a bump in quality. This is thanks to Twitch announcing that streamers will now have the option to streaming their games or broadcasts at 1080p Full HD at a buttery smooth 60fps, although we guess this is up to streamers to choose if they want to stream at those settings.

As Twitch mentions on its blog, just because you can doesn’t mean you should, since it would also largely depend on your computer and your internet, because if it can’t handle those settings then there’s really no point in doing so. After all no one likes tuning into a stream if it keeps buffering, right?

“Remember: with great power comes great responsibility. Just because you can stream at 1080p and higher bitrates doesn’t necessarily mean you should. It’s better to have a stable stream at a lower resolution or bitrate than a higher quality stream that makes you drop frames.” To help achieve these settings, Twitch has also increased their ingest bitrate.

According to Twitch, “For starters, we’re no longer limiting our ingest bitrate to 3.5 megabits. We officially recommend 3–6 megabits for most streams, skewing toward the higher end for 1080p broadcasts or faster, more demanding games.”

Apple Hires Former YouTube And Spotify Exec

Apple’s interest in expanding their entertainment offerings beyond just music isn’t new, and we have heard multiple times in the past that the company was looking to get into video. In fact shows like Carpool Karaoke and Planet of the Apps are pretty good examples of Apple’s ambition in motion.

It looks like the company is starting to get serious about their efforts, according to a report from The Information (paywall; via 9to5Mac) in which it was reported that Apple has hired a former YouTube and Spotify exec Shiva Rajaraman. Given his roles at YouTube and Spotify, his experience will help Apple navigate both the video and music landscapes.

According to the report, Rajaraman spent 8 years at YouTube and worked at helping the company acquire licensing content from the likes of Disney, for example. While working at Spotify, he also had a role at developing the company’s video and podcasting efforts, as well as licensing content from Warner and NBC.

However the report goes on to say that there is internal debate at Apple as to how they should approach video. It reads, “Executives have debated how to go forward in video. One idea that has been discussed is to bundle its music, news and book offerings with new video and cable services that could be activated via the iPhone and work on Internet-connected TVs.” Either way we guess we’ll just have to wait and see how this pans out.

Soon You’ll Be Able To Play Text Adventure Games With Google Home

Gaming can come in all sorts of forms, whether you’re rolling physical dice with board games, or typing away on games like MUDs, or donning a virtual reality headset and piloting a spaceship. This is why it doesn’t surprise us that developers have actually come up with mini games and the likes for software like Google Assistant (and Google Home in the process).

But could devices like Google Home and software like Google Assistant offer up more “serious” gaming experiences other than just trivia? Possibly, and that’s what Google seems to be heading towards as the company has announced that they will be releasing new tools for developers to help improve the gaming experiences offered by Google Assistant.

All of this will be building off the Actions feature launched last year, which basically expands on Google Home’s capabilities through third-party services. For starters Google will be releasing a brand new sound effect library, which can help enhance games created for the platform. Google has also published a guide on how to put together a text adventure game.

Last but not least, Google is also sharing with developers the various tools and companies that have integrated their development solutions with Actions, so developers will have more resources that will help with the development of their games.

Galaxy S8’s Camera Modules Reportedly Facing Manufacturing Issues

Samsung’s new Galaxy S8 and S8+ handsets are expected to officially go on sale on the 21st of April, but don’t be surprised if you discover that these handsets are difficult to get at launch. This is because according to a report from The Bell, there are manufacturing issues with camera modules that will be used with the Galaxy S8.

According to the report, production rate of the camera module is facing a yield rate of less than 70%, meaning that for every 100 units, there are about 30 faulty products, which is clearly unacceptable as those numbers should be at least at 80% to ensure a stable supply. The modules are reportedly being manufactured by Patron.

Apparently there is a bit of difficulty manufacturing the modules as Samsung has opted for a unified design, where they are combining the front-facing camera module and the iris scanner into one, and it seems that it’s rather tricky to produce. We’re not sure if Patron will be able to get up to speed ahead of the handset’s official release, but if they can’t then like we said, don’t be surprised if there is a shortage at launch.

Samsung has yet to confirm these issues (and we doubt they will), although a shortage at launch could also possibly be attributed to high demand for the handsets, which isn’t surprising given that initial hands-on reviews have been mostly positive.

T-Mobile’s ONEsie Is A Wearable That Keeps Your Phone Charged

Last year Microsoft took the wraps off the Xbox Onesie which looked incredibly comfortable and did a good job of showing off your love for the console. Now it looks like T-Mobile is getting into the wearables game as well as the carrier has officially announced the T-Mobile ONEsie, a wearable that can charge your phone while keeping you warm and snuggly at the same time!

According to John Legere, president, CEO and lead fashion designer at T-Mobile, “T-Mobile ONEsie is a quantum leap forward for wearables, for wireless networks and for fashion. What I’m most excited about is combining my drive to disrupt the wireless industry AND my passion for magenta fashion. The result is easily the most innovative—and certainly the most comfortable—product in wearable technology today. Now anyone can slip into a T-Mobile ONEsie and go “all in” with truly unlimited coverage!”

Now in case it wasn’t obvious already, the T-Mobile appears to be an early April Fool’s joke by the folks at T-Mobile, although here’s the twist. While all the tech features of the T-Mobile ONEsie might have been a joke, the actual onesie can be purchase from T-Mobile’s website where it is priced at $40. “T-Mobile ONEsie is available for a limited time only and while it features all the style and comfort, it has no actual technical capabilities. Happy April Fool’s Day!” So, who plans on ordering one for themselves?

Unlocked Moto G4 Plus In The US Getting Nougat Update

The Moto G4 Plus was launched last year where it came with Android 6.0 Marshmallow preinstalled. Now if you own the unlocked version of the Moto G4 Plus in the US, you will be pleased to learn that according to reports, Motorola is now pushing out the Android 7.0 Nougat update to the handset.

The update will weigh a little over 700 MB which means that you’ll want to ensure that you have enough storage space on your phone, be connected to WiFi (unless you have unlimited data), and also ensure your phone has enough juice, otherwise having your phone die halfway mid-update because it doesn’t have enough battery is usually a bad idea.

Nougat for the Moto G4 Plus will bring about a bunch of a brand new features that we have come to expect from the update, so there really shouldn’t be any surprises there. If you don’t see the update available yet, not to worry as we’re sure that it should eventually find its way to you.

In the meantime Moto G4 Plus owners who have no plans to upgrade to the Moto G5 Plus, last we heard it seems that the handset will also be eligible for an update to Android O which should be released later this year.

Logitech Harmony, Google Assistant give your voice more power

If you ask Google, it would probably prefer that its Google Home speaker be the hub for your smart home. The reality, however, is that there are half a dozen or so different smart home “languages”, some of which Google Home doesn’t speak. It needs a multi-lingual interpreter to put them all under the mesmerizing control of your voice. And … Continue reading
