The mobile world might be awash with news about the Galaxy S8 and its little friends, but some companies still seem to have a smartwatch hangover from Baselworld last week. Coming late to the party is Garmin, which, contrary to the trend of recent smarwatch announcements, isn’t coming out with an Android Wear 2.0 wearable. Instead, the Forerunner 935 is … Continue reading
Trevor Noah has been one of Donald Trump’s harshest critics, but it seems he can’t help but have a soft spot for the president.
On Wednesday’s episode of “The Daily Show,” Noah spoke about Trump’s promise to save the U.S. coal industry as well as his campaign-style rallies in swing states where it is big.
While airing footage of a rally in West Virginia, where Trump wore a hard hat and sort of swung his body to the right in a macho golf swing sort of way, Noah couldn’t help but join in.
At that point, Noah said, ‘Trump may destroy the world, but, god damn, he’s cute.
He then pointed to Trump’s recent photo op in a Mack truck.
Moments like these reminded Noah that Trump really enjoys being president, he just doesn’t like the work.
“You realize, that’s all Trump ever wanted was to play president,” Noah said. “We should have just given him a Fisher-Price set.”

Samantha Bee mocked President Donald Trump’s failure to deliver on one of his key campaign promises on Wednesday.
“Let’s check in with the winning, shall we?” asked the “Full Frontal” host as she reminded viewers about how the GOP had pulled its plan to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act last Friday due to a lack of support.
“He couldn’t sell Obamacare repeal to a House that voted for it 60 times already?” said Bee. “Closing deals is the one thing President ‘Big Boy Truck’ was supposed to know how to do!”

Samsung’s deal with Qualcomm seems to have thrown OEM’s launch schedules into disarray. Since the Snapdragon 835 won’t be available to any other smartphone maker until May at the earliest, companies are left with only two choices. Risk being late to get the Snapdragon 835, like the Sony Xperia XZ Premium, or launch early but settle for a Snapdragon 821, … Continue reading
Earlier tonight, the broadcast of The Daily Show was briefly interrupted by a blip of stock war footage, a spinning ballerina, and a web address with a Russian domain name. The internet quickly assumed that the late night comedy show had been hacked. It wasn’t.
Lawmakers in North Carolina announced late Wednesday they had reached a deal to repeal the state’s controversial bill that bars transgender people from using bathrooms associated with their gender identity.
Full details of the measure to repeal the legislation, known as House Bill 2, were not announced, but it’s expected to be put up for a vote in the Senate at 9:15 Thursday morning. The House would quickly follow, according to The Charlotte Observer.
State Senate President Pro Tem Phil Berger and House Speaker Tim Moore announced the agreement made with North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper at a press conference about 10:30 p.m. local time. They declined to answer any questions related to the replacement measure, House Bill 142, and said details about the legislation would be released later Wednesday night.
“I support the House Bill 2 repeal compromise that will be introduced tomorrow,” Cooper said in a statement. “It’s not a perfect deal, but it repeals House Bill 2 and begins to repair our reputation.”
The Human Rights Campaign noted the new legislation would prohibit cities from passing individual non-discrimination protections through 2020 and return such power to the states.
“The rumored HB2 ‘deal’ does nothing more than double-down on discrimination and would ensure North Carolina remains the worst state in the nation for LGBTQ people,” HRC President Chad Griffin said in a statement. “The consequences of this hateful law will only continue without full repeal of HB2. Sellouts cave under pressure. Leaders fight for what’s right.”
The Associated Press on Monday reported the fallout from the bathroom bill would cost the state more than $3.76 billion over the next 12 years. Dozens of companies have pulled their business from North Carolina, including the NCAA, which threatened to boycott the state for the next six years unless the bill was repealed.
The NCAA released a final, pointed warning last Thursday ahead of the release of its championship event schedule, which comes out April 18.
“As the state knows, next week our various sports committees will begin making championships site selections for 2018-2022,” the NCAA said in a statement at the time. “Once the sites are selected … those decisions are final.”
While the move would strike down one of the most controversial pieces of anti-LGBT legislation in the country, the proposal was met with swift resistance from some civil right groups.

Less than a week before President Donald Trump signed an executive order rolling back major elements of the Obama administration’s climate change policies, one of the largest gas and oil companies in America advised the White House to remain a participant in the Paris climate agreement.
In a letter sent March 22 to the White House, Exxon Mobil urged the Trump administration not to pull out of the Paris Agreement, calling the landmark deal reached in 2015 an “effective framework for addressing the risks of climate change” and the “first major international accord” to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
In response to news of the letter, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) tweeted Wednesday that it was “pathetic that the largest oil company in the world” has to tell the president about climate change.
Exxon Mobil’s letter was sent in response to a White House request for the company’s position on the Paris climate agreement, said Alan Jeffers, a company spokesman who shared the letter with The Huffington Post.
In it, Exxon Mobil’s manager of environmental policy and planning, Peter Trelenberg, said that the U.S. is “well positioned to compete within the framework of the Paris Agreement.” Trelenberg argued that the agreement would also expand the country’s use of natural gas, which he says is the “cleanest-burning and least carbon-intensive fossil fuel.”
The letter also argued that the challenge to combat climate change could lead to technological advances and the U.S. should keep policies in place that would support those advances.
The Exxon Mobil official added: “It is prudent that the United States remain a party to the Paris Agreement to ensure a level playing field, so that global energy markets remain as free and competitive as possible.”
A White House official told reporters that the administration has not yet decided whether the U.S. government will withdraw from the climate deal, according to CNN.
And while Tuesday’s “Energy Independence Executive Order,” which Trump has called an “energy revolution,” did not directly address the Paris accord, it could prevent the U.S. from meeting the commitments it made under the agreement.
Exxon Mobil is currently under investigation for allegedly lying to the public about its climate change research. Rex Tillerson, the energy giant’s former CEO and now the secretary of state, has previously suggested that the U.S. stay committed to the Paris Agreement.
Exxon Mobil refused to comment on the executive order and how it would affect U.S. commitments to the climate accord.

CNN commentator Angela Rye had no patience for former Congressman Joe Walsh (R-Ill.) when he said the bar was lowered for President Barack Obama because of his race.
“I’m not talking to bigots,” Rye said during a CNN segment Wednesday.
Rye and Walsh were invited on air to discuss what started as a Twitter fight. In response to Rye saying that Obama “had to be the next best thing to Jesus” during his presidency, Walsh argued that the president was held to a lower standard during his two terms because he is black.
Rye criticized CNN for bringing Walsh on the air.
“I am not interested in trying to convince and change the mind of a bigot, someone who will openly troll me and say things that are offensive that he knows are not true,” Rye told host Brooke Baldwin.
When Walsh repeatedly defended his comment, Rye succinctly responded, “That’s what makes you a bigot!”
She added, “I’m not interested in having a dialogue with someone like Joe, who has demonstrated a propensity towards bigotry, and he did that on Twitter yesterday, in 140 characters or less.”
