Kid Makes a Cardboard Nintendo Switch

Kids are super creative, wspecially when they have to be. What do you do when your mom won’t buy you a game console? If you are this kid, you build one for yourself.

Twitter user Ama-chan’s kid brother created this cardboard Nintendo Switch because their mother wouldn’t buy the real thing. I guess a cardboard game console better than no game consoel. At least it kept the kid busy and now he can look at his creation and dream.

Ama-chan’s little brother is in fifth grade, and he actually dreams of making video games in the future. I guess he is well on his way. You have to start somewhere.

PIXIO Magnetic Construction Blocks Let You Build Colorful Voxel Art

Do you like pixel art? Did you know that when pixels are turned into their 3-dimensional equivalents, they’re called “voxels?” Well now you do. Pretty soon, you’ll have a fun new way to build your own personal voxel art sculptures, thanks to PIXIO.

Like LEGO and other building blocks tiny, colorful plastic cubes are designed for building all kinds of figures and structures. But what makes PIXIO bricks different is that they’ve got magnets inside of them, which means they snap right into place when they get near each other.

You can build all kinds of cool stuff with them, and if for some reason you can’t come up with your own designs, PIXIO will be creating a smartphone app, loaded up with easy, color-coded designs for you to follow.

Each cube measures 8 x 8 x 8mm, or about 1/3″ cubed. There are six tiny neodymium magnets inside, so each side can stick to another cube. To start, they’ll come in 16 different colors, but hopefully they’ll become so popular that we’ll get more colors down the road. At least they’ve been kind enough to include some skin tones in the first batch of colors.

Check out the gallery below for a bunch of ideas of things you could create with PIXIO blocks, then head over to Kickstarter to place your order now. A starter set of 50 assorted blocks will cost you $19(USD), with 100 going for $35, 200 for $55, 400 for $85, 800 for $149, 1600 for $290, or whopping 3200 blocks for $550.

Android Could Beat iOS In App Store Revenue This Year

Despite Android clearly being the more dominant smartphone operating system compared to iOS, developers still love developing for iOS simply because it has been found that iOS users are more willing to pay for apps compared to Android users, which in turn means that developers are more likely to make money off iOS apps compared to Android.

However that could change in 2017 where according to the latest stats provided by App Annie (via TechCrunch), there seems to be a trend in which it would suggest that this is the year that Android app store revenue could finally surpass that of iOS. The report takes into account the fact that there exists third-party Android app stores (for example Amazon has its own Android app store) and compares that to the iTunes App Store.

Assuming the numbers are right, Google Play is expected to generated $21 billion and third-party app stores will generate $20 billion, bring it to a total of $41 billion for Android. This is compared to iOS where it is expected to earn $40 billion in 2017. However if we were to look at just iTunes versus Google Play, Apple is expected to maintain its lead over Google until at least 2021.

Whether or not these predictions will come true remains to be seen, since we’re sure that release of new hardware and new features will also dictate what apps are being developed, and whether or not it will convince customers to switch platforms, but what do you guys think of these figures?

Apple Music Has More Active Monthly Users Than The Competition

It goes without saying that Spotify is the king of music streaming as last we heard, the company was boasting 50 million paid subscribers. This is compared to the competition such as Apple Music who last we checked had about 20 million subscribers, although we imagine those numbers have probably increased by now.

That being said despite Apple Music being relatively new to the market and with Spotify dominating the music streaming scene, it turns out that Apple Music might actually be doing better in terms of active monthly users. This is according to recent stats published by Verto (via 9to5Mac) in which it was revealed that Apple Music has about 40.7 million unique users every month.

This is versus the likes of Spotify who according to Verto, has about 30.4 million unique users a month. Interestingly enough Pandora Radio actually beats out Spotify in this regard with 32.6 million unique users. According to Verto, they told the folks at TechCrunch that the reason behind this is because of Apple Music’s free 3-month trial, which apparently manages to bring in more users, although we should note that Spotify also has a free listening tier if users would rather not pay.

However we suppose the upside is that Apple Music comes bundled by default for Apple customers across multiple devices, thus saving them time from having to download a separate app which could encourage adoption.

Sony Cancelling Some South Park: The Fractured But Whole Pre-Orders

When South Park: The Fractured But Whole was announced, it was originally intended to be released on the 6th of December, 2016. However you might have heard that it has since been delayed and we do not know when the new release date is, although we suppose in a way this is more favorable compared to launching a game that isn’t ready.

That being said, given that some players have already placed their pre-orders for the game, it seems that the delay is a bit too long for Sony’s liking and in an email sent out to some of their customers, it looks like Sony has decided to cancel pre-orders of the game made via the PlayStation Store.

According to Sony’s email, it reads, “We recently informed you that there is no new confirmed release date for South Park and unfortunately we are still unable to confirm a release date. Therefore we have regrettably decided to cancel and refund your pre-order, however we’re pleased to tell that you are able to keep the copy of South Park: The Stick of Truth for free.”

It looks like the consolation here is that gamers will be able to keep the copy of the prequel for free, but ultimately you will have to place a pre-order again once the new release date has been revealed, which at the moment is really anyone’s guess.

Woman Abused, Attempted To Inseminate Captive Over 2 Years

A young woman smuggled into the U.S. from Mexico said she endured two years of horrific abuse at the hands of a Florida woman who repeatedly tried to artificially inseminate her.

Those are the shocking allegations made in court documents filed against Esthela Clark, 47, of Jacksonville. Clark pleaded guilty Monday to one count of forced labor in connection with the case, the Justice Department announced.

Per the terms of a plea agreement, Clark, escaped more serious charges, including sex trafficking and involuntary servitude.

The Justice Department said that in 2012, Clark recruited a 22-year-old woman from Mexico and convinced her to come to the U.S. for the purpose of serving as her pregnancy surrogate. Clark told the woman, who has not been identified, that she would receive roughly $4,000 in exchange for participation in a “medically supervised” procedure. Clark then paid human smugglers, also known as “coyotes,” roughly $3,000 to smuggle the woman out of Mexico, authorities said.

The trip turned into two years of hell for the young woman.

The woman told investigators her first nine months in the country were spent enduring Clark’s repeated attempts to impregnate her.

“Clark and [her boyfriend] would have sex using a condom,” according to a criminal complaint obtained by The Huffington Post. “When [Clark’s boyfriend] ejaculated, Clark would transfer the semen from the condom to a plastic syringe and then insert the semen into [the victim’s] vagina.”

The young woman said she was subjected to injections “three to four times a day” when she was ovulating. When those efforts failed, she said Clark forced her “to have sex with two complete strangers.”

Things took a turn for the worse in March 2013.

The woman said Clark began beating her, forcing her to work, and chastised her for being “too fat” to conceive. She said Clark would only allow her to eat beans, which resulted in a 65-pound weight loss.

Allegations set forth in the affidavit include:

  • “Clark advised [the victim] that if she tried to escape, [the victim’s] family and child in Mexico would be harmed.”
  • “Clark prohibited [the victim] from washing or changing her clothing for days and weeks at a time.”
  • “On one occasion … Clark required [the victim] to sleep on the kitchen floor in a puddle of bleach as punishment.”
  • “Clark often would force [the victim] to undress.”
  • “Clark physically beat [the victim] at least four or five times.”

Clark also isolated the victim from her family and “attempted to collect from the victim’s family the cost she had paid to the coyotes, with interest,” a statement from federal prosecutors reads.

The abuse continued until January 2015, when a concerned citizen contacted the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. Investigators assigned to the case uncovered a mountain of evidence, which corroborated the victim’s story, according to the criminal complaint.

Six months later, a Grand Jury indicted Clark

In entering into the plea deal, Clark, according to prosecutors, acknowledged she is guilty of the allegations made against her and will make restitution to the victim, in an amount yet to be determined by a judge.

Clark now faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000. A sentencing date has not yet been set.
