Huawei Launches HiKey 960 Computer Board For Android

The Raspberry Pi boards are great if you like to tinker around with technology. The possibilities are endless with the board but it’s obviously limited by its specs. If you’re looking for a more powerful solution, one that can even run around, then look no further than Huawei’s new HiKey 960 computer board. The company has collaborated with Google on this board.

Huawei teamed up with the likes of Google, ARM, Archermind, and LeMaker to develop the HiKey 960. The board has been developed to be a solution for Android or to be used as a tool for developing software and drivers for the operating system.

This board can be used in a wide variety of applications such as drones, robots, and smart connected devices. However, it’s primarily meant to function as an Android PC or as a tool that developers use to code and test apps. The board packs a Huawei Kirin 960 processor with 3GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 32GB of storage.

The Mali-G71 graphics processor supports 4K graphics but the board only has a HDMI 1.2a slot that’s good for 1080p display output. Additional specifications include Bluetooth 4.1, 802.11 b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi, a PCIe m.2 slot for expansion.

Huawei is going to start shipping the $239 HiKey 960 computer board in the United States, Europe, and Japan early next month. Support for multiple Linux versions will be added at some point in the future.

Tungsten Spinning Top: Spinception

The last time I really thought about a spinning top was when DiCaprio spun one in Inception. That top was supposed to help him figure out if he was in a dream or reality. All I know is the ending left me wondering what the deal was. Are we still in a dream right now?

This Spinning Top looks a lot like the one from the film. It’s made of tungsten, a metal that is super dense. That density means that the top spins for a long time – though not as long as this infinitely-looping GIF:

The top is smallish at 1.25-inches tall and weighs in at one ounce. Despite its diminutive size, it will cost you $69.99(USD) over at ThinkGeek.

It can even rate your daily look based on advice from fashion specialists coupled with intelligence machine learning algorithms.

The Echo Look has a built-in LED light, a base mount for attaching it to the wall, and a microphone. It works with a companion app that has a Style Check feature which lets you compare two looks and rate which is better.

Users lookbook will be stored and Amazon is going to recommend them outfits that suit their style. Clearly, this is an attempt by Amazon to further its footing in the expanding online fashion market.

Do we need RGB mousepads? SteelSeries QcK Prism says yes

Once upon a time, the mousepad was a relatively simple product that didn’t need to draw a lot of attention. With the rise of RGB PC accessories, though, nothing is safe. Indeed, manufacturers have begun adding RGB functionality to everything they can, and SteelSeries is joining the ranks of those who have decided that mousepads need to light up too. … Continue reading

Google’s new wireless headphones might poke fun at iPhone 7

Google has a new pair of Bluetooth (wireless) headphones coming and we’ve got the full specs for you well ahead of release. While we don’t expect these headphones to be mind-blowing by any means, it’s interesting to see how Google has more than one way of revealing or choosing not to reveal products in early testing. In this case, it … Continue reading

These Folks Had A Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Time Tapping This Keg

Tapping a keg of beer is supposed to be a joyous occasion. But even when it goes badly, it’s still pretty joyous.

After keeping an eye on the Facebook pages of every brewery in the world, we found that this German brewery posted this video to their site.

These German folks in Uehlfeld aren’t at some house party — they’re tapping this keg the old-fashioned way, with a mallet and spigot. It does not go well.

Father Kills Toddler On Facebook Live

For the second time in roughly a week, a brutal killing has been uploaded to Facebook.

According to police, a 20-year-old man on Monday used Facebook Live to stream the hanging of his 11-month-old daughter. The video, which was filmed at an abandoned hotel in Phuket, Thailand, showed the man tie a noose around the child’s neck before dropping her over the side of the building.

The child’s relatives, including his mother, reportedly saw the video and contacted police.

“The mother of the child was crying and was very sad,” Thai police Col. Jirasak Siemsak told The Associated Press. “I am also very sad … they were still very young.”

Authorities found the man’s body hanging next to his daughters. His death has been ruled a suicide. BBC News has since identified him as Wuttisan Wongtalay.

“He was having paranoia about his wife leaving him and not loving him,” Thai police officer Jullaus Suvannin told Reuters.

The four-minute video, which reportedly remained online 24 hours before it was removed, was viewed more than 200,000 times.

This latest chilling video comes just eight days after authorities in Cleveland, Ohio, say 37-year-old Steve Stephens uploaded a video to Facebook that showed him shoot and kill 74-year-old Robert Godwin Sr. on Easter Sunday.

function onPlayerReadyVidible(e){‘undefined’!=typeof HPTrack&&HPTrack.Vid.Vidible_track(e)}!function(e,i){if(e.vdb_Player){if(‘object’==typeof commercial_video){var a=”,o=’m.fwsitesection=’+commercial_video.site_and_category;if(a+=o,commercial_video[‘package’]){var c=’&m.fwkeyvalues=sponsorship%3D’+commercial_video[‘package’];a+=c}e.setAttribute(‘vdb_params’,a)}i(e.vdb_Player)}else{var t=arguments.callee;setTimeout(function(){t(e,i)},0)}}(document.getElementById(‘vidible_2’),onPlayerReadyVidible);

Officials said there was no apparent link between Stephens and Godwin. Two days after the killing, Stephens was found dead in Erie, Pennsylvania, from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities said.

The gruesome video of Godwin’s slaying was on Facebook for roughly two hours before it was removed by the company. Mark Zuckerberg addressed the incident during an April 18 Facebook developers conference.

“We have a lot more to do here,” Zuckerberg said. “We’re reminded of this this week by the tragedy in Cleveland. Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Robert Godwin Sr. We have a lot of work and we will keep doing all we can to prevent tragedies like this from happening.”

function onPlayerReadyVidible(e){‘undefined’!=typeof HPTrack&&HPTrack.Vid.Vidible_track(e)}!function(e,i){if(e.vdb_Player){if(‘object’==typeof commercial_video){var a=”,o=’m.fwsitesection=’+commercial_video.site_and_category;if(a+=o,commercial_video[‘package’]){var c=’&m.fwkeyvalues=sponsorship%3D’+commercial_video[‘package’];a+=c}e.setAttribute(‘vdb_params’,a)}i(e.vdb_Player)}else{var t=arguments.callee;setTimeout(function(){t(e,i)},0)}}(document.getElementById(‘vidible_3’),onPlayerReadyVidible);

The Cleveland and Thai videos are just the latest in a growing list of disturbing videos that have been shared on Facebook in the past year. Those videos include the January suicide of a 14-year-old girl and the March sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl.

Facebook did not immediately respond to a request for comment from HuffPost Wednesday morning about the latest video.

A statement from the company published by BBC News called it “appalling.”

“Our hearts go out to the family of the victim,” the statement reads. “There is absolutely no place for content of this kind on Facebook.”

Jonathan Demme, Famed 'Silence Of The Lambs' Director, Dead At 73

Jonathan Demme, the Oscar-winning director of the “Silence of the Lambs” has died, his rep. confirmed Wednesday. He was 73.

“Sadly, I can confirm that Jonathan passed away early this morning in his Manhattan apartment, surrounded by his wife, Joanne Howard, and three children,” his rep. said.

“He died from complications from oesophageal cancer and is survived by his children Ramona, age 29, and her husband James Molloy, Brooklyn, age 26, and Jos, age 21.”

The director missed the premier of his 2015 movie “Ricki and The Flash” because he was being treated for cancer

Demme, who also directed the Oscar-winning movie “Philadelphia” starring Tom Hanks, is perhaps best known for his work on “Silence of the Lambs.” The chilling horror and suspense film starring Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster delved into the mind of a psychopathic, cannibal killer and the investigator who had no choice but to seek his help. The film won five Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director.

More recently, Demme directed the “Justin Timberlake + the Tennessee Kids,” showing the pop star in concert in 2015.

He is survived by his wife, Joanna Howard, and three children.

This is a developing story.
