Facebook Will Show Fact-Checked Related Articles In News Feed

Facebook launched Related Articles in 2013 to help users discover news articles that they find interesting about the same topic. Currently, these related articles are shown in News Feed after users have read an article. The social network today announced that it’s testing a new version of this feature which will display several links to fact-checked Related Stories underneath the main linked story.

The implementation is not that different from how Related Articles are currently displayed on Facebook. However, in this test, they will be displayed before you read the article and not after like they currently are. Facebook will display these links directly in News Feed before the user clicks on the main story’s link.

Facebook says that the idea behind displaying related articles before people actually read the main linked story is to provide them with “easier access to additional perspectives and information.” These links will also point to articles that have been fact-checked by third parties, it’s yet another push by Facebook to clamp down on the fake news epidemic.

The idea behind this move appears to be making it easier for users to get additional viewpoints on the stories that they’re interested in and the viewpoints that they might have otherwise missed had Facebook not shown the relevant articles directly in their News Feed.

Someone Chained A Cross To Gay Street In NY. What Happened Next Was Beautiful.

On Good Friday, a mysterious giant wooden cross appeared on Gay Street in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of New York City, chained and locked to an apartment gate.

Over the next nine days, the cross’ owner would return and chain the cross to different parts of the street making it impossible for others to move it.

“To be honest, I’m a Christian, and the cross means, love, peace and hope. And it was clear the owner of this cross did not share those values,” Gay St. resident Micah Latter, whose gate the cross was first chained to, told HuffPost. “Whatever [this person’s] point, [it] was lost in translation. Their actions were pointless and annoying.”

Latter posted daily Instagram updates of the cross’ location and tried to seek help for its removal from authorities, which was unsuccessful. So, she had an idea: Why not turn the cross into a symbol of love and acceptance and take the power back from its owner?

On Sunday, Latter and ten neighbors and friends gathered to paint the cross the colors of the LGBTQ rainbow flag. They drank champagne and changed the locks so the original owner can no longer move it ― they’re now calling it “The Love Cross.”

For Latter and those who took part in the cross painting, it became an exercise not only in love and support, but a classic NYC experience of community.

”Neighbors and strangers came together on Gay St., all approaching the meaning of the cross with different personal views, yet we all shared the same love and support for the community that we bonded over,” Latter told HuffPost. “For two hours on a Sunday, it was just random strangers, tourists, straight couples, gay couples, kids and neighbors spreading love, painting rainbows on a cross, getting to know our neighbors, and drinking champagne on Gay St. It was a magical NYC evening!”

As for the cross’ original owner, Latter and the residents of Gay St. just have one message: “Sorry you can’t move the cross anymore.  We added our own love lock to your chain and superglued both key holes. The Love Cross belongs to the street now, so thank you!”

21 Dazzling Photos Of Jazz Legend Ella Fitzgerald Over The Years

Ella Fitzgerald’s voice was so powerful and sultry that it makes sense why she is often referred to as the First Lady of Song.

But that’s not the only moniker she was given for her earth-shattering voice. In the nearly 80 years she lived, Lady Ella also came to be known as the Queen of Jazz ― a fitting name that reflected her inimitable influence on the genre.

Tuesday marks the 100-year anniversary of Fitzgerald’s birth on April 25, 1917, in Newport News, Virginia ― and it’s a perfect moment to reflect on how she overcame adversity and achieved unprecedented success in her career as a black woman at the height of Jim Crow. Fitzgerald first gained recognition in 1934 after singing during amateur night at the Apollo Theater in Harlem and went on to win several other singing competitions. Lady Ella impressed crowds so much, she was quickly introduced to influential people in the music industry and attracted admirers everywhere. She soon landed a gig as a singer on tour with the Tiny Bradshaw band, performing in places like Harlem’s renowned Savoy Ballroom, before breaking into her own stardom with hit songs and albums.

Fitzgerald sold nearly 40 million albums, earned 13 Grammy Awards and worked alongside countless great jazz musicians before she died in 1996. In honor of her 100th birthday, let’s look back at moments that capture Lady Ella’s elegance and energy:

So Chris Pratt Is Officially Over Taking Selfies With You

Even the most charming of Hollywood charmers has a limit, and for Chris Pratt it’s taking photos with fans.

The “Guardians of the Galaxy” star is known as one of the friendliest guys around and a master of the selfie game in his own right, but the pressures of being a public figure are clearly getting to him.

Speaking to Cigar Aficionado about his new philosophy when it comes to fan interactions, Pratt says sometimes he just wants to feel normal again.

“I’ve always been a pretty deferential, go-with-the-flow guy. But now I have to be economical with my time,” Pratt explained. “If I go out and want to do normal things, I have to be comfortable disappointing people.”

“I just don’t take pictures with people,” he added. “Because that’s not about enjoying the moment; it’s about stealing the moment to brag about later.”

Now, instead of posing for pictures, he bargains his adoring public down from a selfie to a good old fashioned handshake.

“So, I say, ‘Would you settle for a handshake?’ And then they take the picture anyway,” Pratt said.

For the 37-year-old actor, it seems fame has been a fickle thing. Remember, he’s just another blue-collar American guy with a couple of multi-million dollar movie franchises. Apparently, all he wants is to strike up a conversation with randoms on the street without the hassle.

“It’s tough sometimes, the amount of management you need to do on things you used to do spontaneously,” he revealed. “What I really miss is sitting down and talking to strangers who don’t know me, so we can discover each other. I’d say the majority of people I meet have an idea about me before they meet me. There’s something nice to being able to surprise somebody.”

For the record, we’ll take a handshake anytime.

Channing Tatum And Jenna Dewan's First Night Together Involved Uggs And Tequila

Some relationships begin with a coffee date or a trip to the movies. Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan Tatum’s started with a sombrero and Ugg boots. And yes, there was alcohol involved.

During her appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” Tuesday, Jenna dished on her first night with Channing, which occurred while the two were filming “Step Up.”

“He did this whole thing where he didn’t want to be in a relationship, so I was like, ‘Look, if you want to date other people and be free, that’s fine, but we’re not going to hang out and watch movies. You’ve got to figure out what you want, because I know I want to be in a relationship,’” Jenna, 36, told host Ellen DeGeneres.

A couple days later, Channing went out for a “crazy wild tequila” night with fellow “Step Up” cast members and dancers. As Jenna recalled, “He said he had the chance ‘to be free’ and he couldn’t stop thinking about me.”

Around two in the morning after his rager, Channing went up to Jenna’s hotel room and started banging on the door.

“I go and open the door — he’s going to kill me for this — he’s naked ― no, sorry, he has underwear, a sombrero and Ugg boots, and he’s like, ‘Let’s do this.’”

Channing ended up spending the night in Jenna’s room, and of course, was still there in the morning. Production assistants on set were scrambling to find him, until Jenna ― who had an earlier call time ― told one of them where he was. When the actor finally walked onto set, he was met with applause.

And that’s how it all began. Now, the couple, who’ve been married since 2009, share 3-year-old daughter Everly and continue to restore our faith in Hollywood romances.
