Apple Stores Receiving First Major Redesign In 15 Years

Apple today announced that it’s going to redesign the look of some of its top retail stores for the first time in almost 15 years. The new redesign will see the addition of conference and meeting rooms, living trees, and new video screens. It will also see the Genius Bar being renamed to “Genius Grove.”

The changes are similar to what Apple implemented at its Union Square Park store in San Francisco last year. The idea is to transform these spaces from just retail stores to a town square of sorts.

The company wants startups and small business owners to head to its stores and use the conference spaces to get advice from developers and entrepreneurs. Even the folks behind the Genius Grove will offer help with much more than just product problems as their range of skills will now include photography and music.

That’s not all. The company is also going to start offering education sessions at almost all of its 500 retail stores. These sessions will be branded as “Today at Apple” and they will launch at the end of next month. It’s not clear right now how different they will be from the current creative workshops that are already offered at its stores.

Seagate’s New Hard Drive Is Meant For Drone Owners

Seagate today announced the launch of a new hard drive that’s meant for drone owners. The drive itself is called DJI Fly Drive which should leave no doubt in your mind that it’s meant for customers with drones made by DJI. With its integrated USB Type-C cable, the DJI Fly Drive offers up to 2TB of storage which will be ample for hours and hours worth of drone footage. It does have something which sets it apart from most external hard drives.

The Seagate DJI Fly Drive features a built-in microSD card slot which isn’t something that you normally find on an external hard drive. Seagate says that it has built a microSD card slot into the hard drive so that users can quickly transfer drone footage to the hard drive while they’re out and about.

The microSD card slot is rated for cards up to UHS-II speeds. There’s also a built-in protective bumper which should help protect the DJI Fly Drive against drops and bumps which will be inevitable when you take it on the road with you.

This product is the result of the partnership that DJI and Seagate announced back in January at the Consumer Electronics Show 2017. The DJI Fly Drive external hard drive will go on sale later this year in the summer for $120.
