Portland Wants To Turn Poop Into Renewable Energy

Petrol and diesel are not unlimited, which means that at some point in time they will run out. This is why there has been an emphasis placed on renewable energy, and also on machines that do not rely on fuel to run, such as electric cars. However it seems that in the future, it is also possible that our vehicles could run on poop.

The city of Portland has recently approved a methane recovery project. What this means is that they plan to collect the methane gas from sewage and turn that into a renewable energy source. Since we all need to poop, it is pretty much unlimited. According to Commissioner Nick Fish, “We are creating a triple-win for the public in terms of revenue, climate action and cleaner air. The renewable natural gas we will produce is truly local and homegrown, a by-product of the waste from every Portland household that we can now repurpose.”

The goal of this project is to reduce the 1.34 million gallons of dirty diesel fuel a year and also cut greenhouse emissions by 21,000 tons. It is also supposed to help generate around $3 million in revenue a year, and will also have less impact on the environment since there is no drilling required.

This isn’t the first time that an idea has been proposed regarding the reusing of human waste. As you might recall, several years ago Bill Gates helped to push for a machine that could turn poop into drinkable water, although in Portland’s case since no ingestion is required, it does sound more palatable.

Overwatch Is Now Boasting More Than 30 Million Players

Earlier this year, Blizzard announced that their latest IP and franchise Overwatch managed to hit 25 million players. Fast forward a few more months and it seems that the momentum for the game has not slowed down because Blizzard has announced that Overwatch has now managed to hit 30 million players.

That’s a pretty impressive feat to gain 5 million players in the course of 3 months. It is possible that Overwatch could be Blizzard’s most successful game yet. To give you guys some perspective, Blizzard’s MMORPG World of Warcraft peaked at around 12 million subscribers, although to be fair Overwatch does not require a subscription so its barrier to entry is lower.

Blizzard has been hard at work on Overwatch where they are constantly improving and tweaking the game. They are also introducing new content such as game modes, holiday events, and last we heard, at least 6 new maps are coming to the game with 3 being competitive and 3 being normal.

Overwatch is certainly far from being done as we have heard rumblings of potential new characters, such as Doomfist which has been talked a lot about but has yet to materialize. Unfortunately at the moment for those who are wondering about the fuss surrounding Overwatch, there is no free version of the game yet and if you want to try your hand at it, you’ll either have to purchase it outright or play it on a friend’s computer.

Game Of Thrones Star Warns That Most Online Leaks Are Real

As much as we’re sure HBO and Game of Thrones’ showrunners would love to keep things about the show as tightly locked up as possible until the episodes air, leaks are inevitable, especially when you have such a huge crew and there is always a possibility that someone might say something accidentally or intentionally.

We’ve seen several leaks make their way online in the past, but to be fair it’s hard to tell if they’re real. Now if you’re a huge stickler when it comes to spoilers, then you’ll want to avoid these leaks at all costs because in a recent report from HuffPost, Game of Thrones star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (who plays Jaime Lannister) confirmed that most of the leaks you see online are the real deal.

The actor was quoted as saying, “What’s interesting, though, is every year there are huge spoilers online where people find out real stuff and they will post it, and you go, ‘Oh my God, they just spoiled the whole season online!’ But then, because there’s 10,000 other spoilers out there, they’re not real. It just gets lost in the shuffle. So, it’s all out there by the way … if you can find it.”

The upside is if you don’t care about spoilers then chances are what you read online will pretty much tell you what to expect. In the meantime Season 7 for Game of Thrones has been confirmed to begin airing on the 16th of July, 2017.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Has Already Outsold Zelda On Amazon

When the Nintendo Switch was launched, there weren’t that many games available for it. However one of the bigger titles available at launch was The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Given Zelda’s popularity and also the fact that gamers have been waiting for this title ever since it was announced for the Wii U, its success wasn’t surprising.

We had heard that over at GameStop, the attachment rate for the game was pretty much one-to-one, meaning that for every Switch sold, a copy of the game was purchased as well. However it looks like maybe Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was a more highly-anticipated title because over on Amazon, the game has already managed to outsell Breath of the Wild.

This is based on Amazon’s “Best Sellers of 2017” list which is updated daily, and at this time of posting Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is in third place, with Breath of the Wild in fourth. Note that this is only for Amazon’s own platform, meaning that overall Breath of the Wild could still have sold more units.

Also it should be noted that Amazon does not count digital downloads so maybe Breath of the Wild is still in the lead. However it does show how many players have been looking forward to the game (which is already available, by the way).

Analyst Predict PlayStation 5 To Be Released In 2018

The way Sony and Microsoft are approaching console upgrade is rather interesting. What we have seen in the past is the companies would introduce slimmer versions of the existing console, with maybe more storage, but with the PS4 and Xbox One, Sony and Microsoft are instead launching upgrades in the PS4 Pro and Project Scorpio.

Both these consoles will continue to play PS4 and Xbox One games except at better specs. So the question is with this approach, will we ever see major console revisions in the future? Or are upgrades the way moving forwards? It’s a bit hard to say right now, but according to Macquarie Capital Securities Damian Thong, he believes that the “next-generation PlayStation” could be launched as early as next year.

While Thong did not state so explicitly, it has been speculated that this PS5 could be Sony’s answer to Microsoft’s Project Scorpio. The console is said to be aiming for over 10 teraflops in graphical power, which would be almost double that of Project Scorpio which is said to be capable of 6 teraflops.

It is unclear if the PS5 will continue to support PS4 games or if we’re looking at an entirely new platform. It would be strange for Sony to suddenly abandon the PS4 and PS4 Pro within a span of the year, so maybe we could be just looking at another upgrade, but in any case there’s no guarantee since this is just the opinion of an analyst, but what do you guys think? Could a PS5 be in the works?

Marvel VS Capcom: Infinite Predicted To Sell 2 Million Units

Capcom has recently confirmed that its next arcade fighting mashup game Marvel VS Capcom: Infinite will be seeing a release on the 19th of September, 2017. So far from what we can tell from the various trailers, the game looks great and if you’ve enjoyed the previous mashups, then this could be worth looking forward to.

In fact Capcom seems to be pretty optimistic about how well the game will do. In the company’s latest financials, they have predicted that they will be able to sell as many as 2 million copies of the game. This is rather ambitious especially when you consider the the company’s Street Fighter V only managed to sell 1.5 million copies in its first year.

However to be fair, Street Fighter V was not launched for the Xbox One platform, meaning that there is an entire gaming audience that Capcom did not cater to. Marvel VS Capcom: Infinite on the other hand is expected to be launched on the PS4, Xbox One, and the PC, so it is possible that it could hit its target.

It remains to be seen if the title will do as well as Capcom hopes, but we’ll just have to wait until its release to find out. In the meantime are any of our readers looking forward to the game?

NSA Halts The Collection Of The Emails Of Americans

It doesn’t matter if the emails you send are banal or innocent in nature, the fact that the NSA can collect your emails and read them without the need for a warrant has rubbed many people the wrong way, especially American citizens who basically felt like their government has been spying on them.

However the good news is that the practice has stopped, or at least to a certain extent. In a report from The New York Times, it seems that the National Security Agency (NSA) has announced that they will be halting the practice of collecting emails of Americans exchanged with people overseas.

Now this doesn’t mean that they won’t stop their surveillance program, but rather according to the report, “The agency is no longer collecting Americans’ emails and texts exchanged with people overseas that simply mention identifying terms — like email addresses — for foreigners whom the agency is spying on, but are neither to nor from those targets.”

This means that just because your emails to someone in another country mentions a foreigner under surveillance, it will no longer be collected en masse. In a statement made by the NSA, “Instead, this surveillance will now be limited to only those communications that are directly “to” or “from” a foreign intelligence target. These changes are designed to retain the upstream collection that provides the greatest value to national security while reducing the likelihood that NSA will acquire communications of U.S. persons or others who are not in direct contact with one of the Agency’s foreign intelligence targets.”

Call Of Duty: WWII’s Trailer Has More Likes Than Infinite Warfare

The official trailer for Call of Duty: WWII was released several days ago, but it seems that the game has already been received more positively compared to its predecessor, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. When Infinite Warfare’s trailer was launched, the amount of dislikes surpassed its likes many times over.

In the case of WWII, it’s a completely different story. At this time of writing it has received 817,694 likes which is already considerably more than Infinite Warfare, which about a year later is sitting at 573,335 likes. Of course it might be too soon to tell if WWII will be better than Infinite Warfare, but at the very least we can tell that gamers are happy to see the franchise return to its roots.

That being said despite its trailer being so negatively received, Infinite Warfare was considered the best-selling game for the year of 2016 based on NPD’s figures. This echoed Activision’s earlier statement where they said the dislikes did not overly concern them and that gamers would love the game upon its release.

So with the number of likes shown to WWII, will it be able to maintain the momentum of Infinite Warfare and top the best-selling game for 2017 as well? What do you guys think? Call of Duty: WWII is currently set for a release on the 3rd of November, and gamers who pre-order the game early will be eligible to take part in a private beta.

Possible Second Mega Man Legacy Collection In The Works

In an industry which is constantly pushing the boundaries of gameplay and graphics, we’re sure that there are quite a few gamers who might be worried about some of their favorite classic titles from back in the day disappearing into oblivion. However the good news for Mega Man fans is that Capcom could be looking to preserve the collection.

Back in 2015 we saw the publisher launch the Mega Man Legacy Collection which basically collected Mega Man 1-6. Now according to a report from Gematsu, it seems that a second Mega Man Legacy Collection could be in the works, thanks to a sighting at the Korean Game Ratings Board.

The board has suggested that Capcom could be applying for what is known as the “Rockman Legacy Collection 2”, which for those unfamiliar is another name for Mega Man depending on which country you’re from. The listing suggests that it would collect Mega Man titles from 7-10, and it will be available for the PS4, Xbox One, and the PC.

Capcom has yet to officially confirm the new collection, but the listing on the ratings board certainly suggests that it could come eventually. Not to mention it makes sense following the release of the first legacy collection, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled and hopefully Capcom will have more details to share soon or maybe at E3 2017.

Hackers Leaked Netflix’s Orange is The New Black Season 5 Premiere

If you’re a fan of Netflix’s Orange is the New Black series, then you’re probably aware that Season 5 is expected to premiere on the 9th of June. However a group of hackers calling themselves TheDarkOverlord has managed to steal Season 5 and have since leaked the first episode online.

Speaking to TorrentFreak, the group claims that towards the end of 2016, they managed to gain access to the systems of Larson Studios, which is an ADR studio based in Hollywood, and this is how they got their hands on the videos. They then tried to negotiate for a ransom which Larson allegedly agreed to, but eventually failed to follow through, leading to the hacker group releasing the first episode.

The group also claims to have reached out to Netflix for a similar arrangement, but their proposals went unanswered. “Armed with this information, we naturally approached Netflix and the others in an attempt to devise a mutually-beneficial arrangement where we are paid and Netflix and friends don’t wake up to find their hard work plastered on the internet. Our proposals went unanswered so our hands have been forced.”

In a statement made by Netflix, “We are aware of the situation. A production vendor used by several major TV studios had its security compromised and the appropriate law enforcement authorities are involved.”
