Scientists have dreamed of easily patching up heart tissue in the wake of heart attacks, but there are always gotchas: for example, it’s no mean feat to replicate the complex structures of real tissue. However, there may be a solution in sight. Res…
The all-screen smartphone wars have begun. LG and Samsung already have their guns ablazing and, in just a few months, so too will Apple. And because there’s still a lot of time before that happens, there’s plenty of time for leaks of what the iPhone 8 could look like. This latest photo dump supposedly doesn’t come from mere schematics. According … Continue reading
Thank you, Twitter.
Over the weekend, a 2014 photo of Rihanna and Lupita Nyong’o sitting next to each other at Paris Fashion Week went viral after user @blaquepink shared it with the caption, “a picture for the history books.”
Twitter user @1800SADGAL responded and laid the groundwork for the movie you never knew you absolutely needed in life.
From there, the idea spiraled, with more Twitter users adding to the plot, Hollywood insiders chiming in, and a vote of confidence from the stars themselves.
After Rihanna responded, folks on Twitter continued to tweet at Ava DuVernay, asking the award-winning director to get involved.
So maybe this is actually happening?!
Oh, please.

As 360-degree videos are starting to become commonplace, there is one area that needs to be addressed and that is with image quality. After all being immersed in a video while wearing a VR headset is very different from watching it on a monitor, and the better the quality, the more immersive it can feel.
Now if you’re looking to capture some high-quality footage, you might be interested to learn that Insta360 has started to take pre-orders for its new Insta360 Pro camera. This camera allows users to capture 360-degree videos with a resolution as high as 8K! According to the company, the camera features the “best-in-class 360 and 360 3D imaging, a seamless live-streaming experience, and advanced real-time image stitching technology”.
Now it should be noted that the 8K resolution is only available for still photos or videos edited in post-processing. However when you are shooting it will be displayed at 4K, and also 4K will be the max resolution it will go to while live-streaming, although we doubt that live-streaming at 8K isn’t very ideal given the size of the videos.
That being said, it sounds like the Insta360 Pro isn’t really aimed at the average consumer. With a price tag of $3,499 it definitely does not come cheap but if you want to pre-order it, you’ll be able to do so via its website.

Our mobile devices typically feature different chipsets compared to those found on computers. However as mobile devices like smartphones become more popular, many are wondering if perhaps ARM-based chipsets could eventually replace more traditional processors? In fact Microsoft has attempted to do that with Windows RT, an ARM version of Windows 8.
Unfortunately that experiment did not prove to be particularly successful, but it seems that Microsoft is looking to try again because according to recent comments made by Qualcomm CEO Steve Mollenkopf during an investor call, we can expect to see ARM-powered Windows 10 laptops later this year.
Mollenkopf was quoted as saying, “Our Snapdragon 835 is expanding into mobile PC designs running Windows 10, which are scheduled to launch in the fourth calendar quarter this year.” Now the main difference is that unlike Windows RT, this new ARM-powered laptops are expected to run the desktop version of Windows 10, meaning that it will finally be able to support desktop-class apps as well, thanks to an emulator that Microsoft will be building into the OS.
Ultimately this should end up providing users with a similar experience that they’re familiar with on more traditional laptops or desktops, but with the added benefit of potentially having better battery life.

Over in the US, you have carriers such as T-Mobile who offer up music and movie streaming plans for its customers that do not eat into their regular data. Basically as long as you are streaming from one of their partners, it will not count towards your data allowance which could save users a lot of data in the process.
However there is the question of net neutrality, which is where all bandwidth needs to be treated equally, which is why over in Canada, the country’s Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission has ruled against the Unlimited Music Service of Videotron, which for those unfamiliar is the telco unit of Canadian carrier Quebecor.
In a statement put out by Jean-Pierre Blais, the Canadian commission’s chairman, “Rather than offering its subscribers selected content at different data usage prices, Internet service providers should be offering more data at lower prices. That way, subscribers can choose for themselves what content they want to consume.”
Basically it sounds like the commission wants customers to be able to choose what they want to use, as opposed to being told or herded towards other services simply because it does not count towards their data cap. The ruling gave Videotron 90 days to bring its plan into compliance, although the company has responded by saying that they are disappointed by the decision, but they do plan on maintaining the unlimited music service until further notice.

Just like any movie or TV show script, not everything planned gets into production and the final episode or film. Same is especially true with devices, with features that get left on the cutting board. Most of the time, however, those features vanish without a trace. To JerryRigEverything’s surprise, one such feature made it to the retail Galaxy S8. That … Continue reading

With the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S8, Samsung has opted to price the phone high than its predecessors. Why is this? Sure, some might call it a bit greedy, but as it turns out Samsung might have a pretty good reason, and that is the fact that it costs more to make than the previous Galaxy S handsets.
According to an estimate released by IHS Markit (via CNET), it seems that the Galaxy S8 costs Samsung $307.50 to build. This is compared to the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge which reportedly costs $255.10 and $271.20 to make. Of course Samsung has not confirmed whether or not these figures are accurate, so take it with a grain of salt for now.
Also according to the website, the Galaxy S8 appears to be the most expensive handset to build to date. The next most expensive is reportedly the Google Pixel XL which costs $285.80. For those wondering about the competition, Apple’s iPhone 7 is said to cost around $224.80 which is considerably lower than the Galaxy S8.
However we have heard rumors that this year’s iPhone 8 could cost nearly $1,000, although given that we have been hearing that it will be packing a ton of new specs and features, it is understandable.

Given how much time we spend on social media platforms like Instagram and considering how visual it is, it is not surprising that brands and companies are flocking to the platform and paying Instagrammers money to advertise their products. Dubbed “influencers”, this is pretty common especially amongst celebrities and professional athletes.
However it seems that the FTC is keeping a close eye on these advertising practices, and according to a report from Business Insider, the FTC has recently sent about 90 warning letters to Instagram influencers in which the government body reminded them that their relationship to brands must be clearly disclosed when promoting or endorsing products on their social media pages.
This means that if an Instagrammer were to post about a product, they need to make it clear to their followers that it is an ad or a promotion or that they are using a sponsored product, as opposed to them using it personally. The warnings also includes how these disclosures must be made, such as how it cannot be buried towards the end of photo captions where it could be missed.
They are also warning about labels that too vague, such as abbreviating “sponsored post” into “#sp” and so on. If you’re getting a bit sick of seeing your feed flooded with misleading promotions, then hopefully the FTC warning to Instagram influencers will help clean things up a bit.
