Logitech Universal Folio Keyboard Case For Tablets Launched

Due to the numerous devices available in the market today, it would be impossible for accessory makers to create a case for a smartphone or tablet that will fit all products out there. Sure there are sleeves and pouches as options, but for those looking for something more fitted, your options become less.

However it doesn’t mean that companies will stop trying because Logitech has recently announced the Universal Folio. This is a keyboard case for tablets that as its name implies, will work with pretty much all tablets across the board as long as their displays are of the 9-10 inch variety.

This is thanks to the use of the 4-point grip at the corners of the case which can expand and move to suit your tablet. Given that this is a keyboard case, it also comes with a Bluetooth keyboard that will allow users to type more comfortably, especially during longer periods of use like when typing up emails or documents.

Logitech is also boasting that the keyboard has a battery life that will be good for up to 24 months, so users won’t need to worry about recharging it for a very, very long time. The Universal Folio is priced at $60 and you’ll be able to get your hands on it from Logitech’s website.

This Is How Elon Musk’s ‘Boring Company’ Will Ease Traffic Congestions

Last year while stuck in a traffic jam, Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk tweeted out that he wanted to build a tunnel boring machine that would create underground tunnels as an alternative to surface roads. It might sound like the musings anyone stuck in traffic, but in Musk’s case and given his resources, it was an idea that he plans to make a reality.

To that end he has since launched a company called The Boring Company and thanks to a concept video that has surfaced, we now know what Musk’s vision of the future could look like. Basically Musk envisions a future where there will be sleds stationed around a city. Cars could drive themselves into these sleds which would then lower them underground into a tunnel.

The sleds would then propel the car underneath the network of tunnels at speeds of up to 200kmph to help them reach their destination, or at least the next sled station where hopefully they would have already bypassed the jam. Of course there is the question of how many sleds would be required, and if the waiting for the sleds could in turn cause a jam/delay itself?

That being said, this is a concept video and we’re sure that the kinks are still being ironed out, but it is an interesting concept and a future we wouldn’t mind living in, that is of course if flying cars haven’t already become the norm.

Merriam-Webster’s ‘sheeple’ definition uses Apple fanboys example

Merriam-Webster just stepped in a bit of controversy with its new ‘sheeple’ word addition. No, it’s not the addition of the word itself that is causing the arguments and hurt feelings — it’s the two examples of the word that it provides, one of which is a criticism of (a certain) Apple product and the people who buy/bought it. Not … Continue reading

Portland plans to convert poop into fuel

The city of Portland has come up with an unusual way to replace diesel fuel. It’s going to convert waste methane from sewage into renewable natural gas. That’s right — trucks in the future could run on poop.

GameStop Claims Nintendo Switch Has Exceeded Their Expectations

Back in 2013 when the Nintendo Wii U was launched, the console pretty much flopped pretty hard right from the start. Retailer GameStop at that time had called sales of the console “disappointing”, but fast forward to today, GameStop is singing a completely different tune with regards to the Nintendo Switch.

In an interview with Forbes, GameStop’s senior director of merchandising Eric Bright revealed that the Switch is exceeding GameStop’s own expectations. Bright also went on to claim that the console was selling out at retailers in a matter of hours and not days, and that they expect the momentum to continue for a while.

According to Bright, “It’s exceeding our expectations. We knew it would be a high demand product, but our Switch allocations are selling out not in days, but in hours…the demand is so high that consumers have to react quickly to be able to get their hands on them. Right now we’re not seeing sales going down at all, and I would expect that to continue for quite some time.”

Nintendo has recently confirmed that they have managed to sell 2.74 million units to date, and that the company is anticipating that they’ll be able to sell an additional 10 million within the console’s first year. Given that there are upcoming games like Super Smash Bros. and Super Mario Odyssey that could boost sales, and let’s not forget the holiday season, we wouldn’t be surprised if they did meet their target.

Fitbit Responds To Flex 2 Exploding On Woman’s Wrist

The other day we had reported that one woman had claimed that her Fitbit Flex 2 had exploded while on her wrist and left her with second-degree burns. No doubt this is a scary situation considering how many tech companies are pushing forwards with wearable devices. However for those worried about their devices, you can rest assured that nothing will happen.

In a statement Fitbit sent to ArsTechnica, the company claims to have investigated the matter which also involved the testing by a third-party company, and came to the conclusion that there was nothing wrong with her device, at least not inherently. They claim that the explosion came as a result of external forces that caused damage to the device that caused it to explode.

The statement reads, “We were greatly concerned by Ms. Mitchell’s report and took swift action to understand the situation. Based on our initial investigation, including testing of her device by a leading third-party failure analysis firm, we have concluded that Ms. Mitchell’s Fitbit Flex 2 did not malfunction. The testing shows that external forces caused the damage to the device.”

Fitbit goes on to add that they have not received any other complaints of this nature (which as far as we know is true since we haven’t read anything similar ourselves), and that customers who own Fitbit devices like the Flex 2 can continue to keep using it without any issue.

Apple Music And Musical.ly Team Up For Music Video Clips

Apple is a company that is notorious for closing off its own apps or services to non-Apple products. For example it took Apple years before deciding to open up Siri to third-party developers, where prior to recent times Siri was pretty much limited to what Apple said that it could do.

However it seems that Apple could be relaxing their control because the company has recently announced that they have teamed up with Musical.ly. This collaboration will see Musical.ly users be able to access the library of Apple Music for use in their music video clips. For those who are unfamiliar, Musical.ly is an app that lets users create 15 second music videos with a bunch of effects, allowing users to put together some quirky lip synced music videos to their favorite songs.

While access to a larger library is no doubt a boon for Musical.ly, it also helps to create awareness and visibility for Apple Music where it could potentially result in more users subscribing to the service. Given Apple’s plans for Apple Music which apparently will have a more video-centric focus in the future, this visibility will no doubt help them gain an audience.

As it stands, Spotify is still pretty much the king of music streaming services, although Apple Music appears to be catching up pretty fast. In the meantime for those curious about Musical.ly, check out the video above to get an idea of what the app is about.

Apple Asks California’s DMV To Change Policy On Self-Driving Car Testing

It seems that Apple is wasting no time in trying to change the way things are being done. It’s been not even a month since it was discovered that Apple was granted permission to testing their self-driving technology on California roads and it looks like the company wants to change how things are being done.

In a report from Reuters, Apple has sent in a letter to the California DMV and asked them to change their policy when it comes to reporting disengagements with regards to self-driving cars. For those wondering, disengagements is when a self-driving car stops driving itself and controls are handed back to its accompanying human driver. Sometimes this is intentional, sometimes it can be accidental, but California’s rules state that all incidents of disengagement need to be reported.

Apple claims that inconsistencies in how disengagements are reported could lead to the public being misled or confused with regards to the safety/viability of the technology. “Apple believes that public acceptance is essential to the advancement of automated vehicles. Access to transparent and intuitive data on the safety of the vehicles being tested will be central to gaining public acceptance. However, the current and proposed disengagement reporting requirements do not achieve this result.”

Whether or not this will happen remains to be seen. In the meantime photos of Apple’s self-driving test car has already been spotted on the roads making its round.

Apple’s Echo Competitor Will Reportedly Look Like A Mac Pro

Following the success of the Amazon Echo, we started hearing rumors that companies such as Apple and Google could follow suit. Google indeed did launch their own take in the form of the Google Home, but Apple’s version has yet to surface. We have heard that the company is close to finalizing a design, and now more details have surfaced.

In a tweet by Mashable’s Jen Ryall, she shares additional details about Apple’s Echo competitor that were provided by Sonny Dickson. According to those details, Apple’s Echo competitor is expected to feature a design that is in the style of the Mac Pro. Chances are it won’t be quite as big or look exactly the same, but there will apparently be some stylistic similarities.

It will sport a concave top with controls, a speaker mesh portion covering it all that is similar to the UE Boom’s mesh, and that it will most likely be launched at WWDC 2017 which kicks off this coming June. We know that Apple has used WWDC to launch new products before so it wouldn’t really be surprising to see them do it again.

We can only assume that it will be powered by Siri, and since it is WWDC, perhaps Apple could even announce and share plans on how developers could potentially help to create “skills” for the device like what is being done with Amazon’s Alexa, but until then take it with a grain of salt.

Qualcomm Claims Apple Is Withholding Its Royalties Payments

Earlier this year, Apple filed a lawsuit against Qualcomm claiming that the company had been overcharging them in royalties for technologies that they have nothing to do with. Apple even alleged that Qualcomm had withheld payments to Apple as a form of “punishment” for cooperating with the Korea Fair Trade Commission.

In what feels a bit ironic, a report from Bloomberg has revealed that Apple is now the one who is withholding payments to Qualcomm over royalties for patents used. As a result, Qualcomm claims that they will now have to revise its financials and lower forecasts due to the lack of revenue from the royalties that they were expected to receive.

According to Don Rosenberg, Qualcomm’s general counsel, “While Apple has acknowledged that payment is owed for the use of Qualcomm’s valuable intellectual property, it nevertheless continues to interfere with our contracts. Apple has now unilaterally declared the contract terms unacceptable; the same terms that have applied to iPhones and cellular-enabled iPads for a decade.”

Apple has also issued a statement which reads, “We’ve been trying to reach a licensing agreement with Qualcomm for more than five years but they have refused to negotiate fair terms. Without an agreed-upon rate to determine how much is owed, we have suspended payments until the correct amount can be determined by the court.  As we’ve said before, Qualcomm’s demands are unreasonable and they have been charging higher rates based on our innovation, not their own.”

In the meantime it doesn’t look like this spat between both companies will be coming to a close anytime soon, especially since Qualcomm has filed their own countersuit against Apple.
