Smart Card Plastc Files For Bankruptcy

As it stands we carry around a lot of cards, whether it be credit cards, debit cards, loyalty cards, discount cards, and so on. This takes up a lot of unnecessary space in our wallets, which is why when smart card Plastc was announced all those years ago, it was heralded as the next big thing because it basically combines all our cards into one.

Unfortunately it seems that the device has failed to take off because after 3 years and delays in shipments, the company has officially announced that they will be shutting down on the 20th of April and will also be filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. This was posted on the company’s website where they gave a brief explanation on how they got to where they are today.

Basically it sounds like the company’s investors and potential investors decided to pull out which meant that they were left without sufficient funds, but ultimately it seems that they weren’t able to keep themselves afloat and had to shut down. Oddly enough a report from Magnify Money revealed that the company had managed to raise $9 million from pre-orders, so it is unclear as to why that wasn’t enough to at least ship out a batch of cards to customers.

In any case we guess that’s it for the company, but in the meantime as far as mobile payments are concerned, the rise of Apple Pay, Android Pay, and Samsung Pay also means that maybe a separate piece of plastic might not even have been necessary in the first place.

South Korean Presidential Candidate Releases StarCraft Map

Politicians these days are definitely trying to appeal to the youth. For example last month it was revealed that a politician from Sweden streams Hearthstone games regularly on Twitch in a bid to reach out to a younger audience. This is why it doesn’t come as a surprise that a South Korean presidential candidate is using StarCraft to try and appeal to the youth.

South Korean presidential candidate Moon Jae-in has recently published two maps for StarCraft: Brood Wars, both of which have apparently been made by him. The maps appear to be pretty simple and straightforward, but we guess the highlight is how his name is spelt out using the minerals.

We’re not sure if Moon is really passionate about StarCraft or if he’s just pandering to his audience, but we guess we’ll have to give him props for his efforts. We guess the fact that StarCraft is something of a cultural phenomenon in South Korea probably helps, although we wish he would have released something for StarCraft 2 instead.

That being said if you are interested in checking out Moon’s maps, we should remind you guys that the original StarCraft and Brood Wars expansion are free for download, so go ahead and check it out if you’re curious about how his maps play.

Halo Wars 2 DLC Delayed Due To Game-Breaking Bug

If you have been looking forward to playing the DLC for Halo Wars 2 dubbed “Colony”, here is some bad news. It seems that the developers have announced and confirmed that the DLC has been delayed due to a game-breaking bug, which is a bummer since it means you don’t get to play it now, but we guess it’s still better than playing a buggy release, right?

According to post on the Halo Waypoint website, “Some of you asked what the game-breaking bug actually was so, here’s the scoop: Initially the real show-stopper had to do with the new Skitterer units, which are basically little symbiotes that can be attached to any friendly unit that acts as a mini self-targeting turret and healer.”

“During a final test pass, the team found something disturbing – it turned out that once an attached Skitterer started firing on a target, it could continue doing with so with zero regard to range or line of sight. Imagine equipping a few fast moving Banshees with Skitterers, flying up to your opponent’s base and taking a few quick shots, and then retreating across the map as your friendly Skitterers continue to fire away at their target from miles away.”

Now while the DLC has been delayed, it has been confirmed that the delay won’t be long as it will be released next week instead, so we guess gamers won’t have to wait too long to get their hands on it.

Dana Carvey Does A Great Donald Trump After Nuclear War On 'Conan'

The prospect of nuclear war amid heightening tensions with North Korea is unnerving to say the least. But “Saturday Night Live” alum Dana Carvey somehow found a way to make it funny on “Conan” Thursday.

Carvey launched into an impersonation of President Donald Trump in a scenario where the bombs have actually dropped.

We don’t want to give too much away, so let’s just say the commander in chief seems frightfully suited for armageddon.

Microsoft To Release Major Windows 10 Updates Twice A Year

Having an up-to-date version of your operating system goes a long way in ensuring that it is protected from the latest threats, as well as smoothing out any bugs, introducing new features, improving upon existing ones, and more. The good news for Windows 10 users is that you guys can expect to get these updates at least twice a year.

In a post on the Windows Blog, Microsoft laid out their plans in which they promised that they will be releasing two major Windows 10 updates a year. In fact not counting the updates that have already been released, the next major update has been scheduled for September 2017, and the next in March 2018, and it is expected to keep that cycle for the foreseeable future.

Microsoft also promised that each release will be supported for 18 months. “Each Windows 10 feature release will be serviced and supported for 18 months. This is consistent with our current Windows 10 approach, but adds further clarity and predictability to organizations by aligning with Office 365 ProPlus.”

In the past Microsoft has suggested that Windows 10 could be the last version of Windows, and we guess constant updates will help it feel like a brand new OS, but who knows what the future holds? Maybe down the line Microsoft could change their mind, but for now if you’d rather not have to relearn a new version of Windows, you won’t have to anytime soon.

Some Pixel Phones Are Having Trouble With Backups

It is always a good idea to keep your phone backed up whenever you can. This is because you never know what could happen where your phone could get stolen, damaged, lost, or some kind of bug/malware could brick it and wipe your device in an instant. At least if you backed up your phone, your loss wouldn’t be quite as great.

Unfortunately it seems that there are some Google Pixel owners who are complaining that their handsets are having some trouble backing up. According to Android Police, it has been discovered that this problem actually goes way back to when the phones first launched, but it seems to be a problem that is persisting even until today.

One user on Google’s Product Forums writes, “So I just found out about backing up my app data, call history, device settings and sms through google backup on my pixel phone. I enabled it with google account and below it says waiting to backup. Google calendar, contacts, and photos/vid show last sync date that I previously did with no problem.”

The good news is that Google appears to be aware of the issue and are reaching out to those affected for more information. We’re not sure when a fix will be released, but in the meantime if you are running into similar issues when trying to backup your Pixel, you might want to find an alternative method of backing up your phone for now.

Elon Musk Expects We’ll Have A Brain-To-Machine Interface In 4 Years

Back in march it was revealed that Elon Musk had launched a new company called Neuralink. For those unfamiliar, basically what Neuralink plans to do is hook up our brains to computers/machines in which we can then control them just by thinking about it. Now in a detailed report posted on Wait But Why (via Engadget), more details about Musk’s plans have been revealed.

In the report Musk basically confirmed Neuralink’s existence and also shared a bit about what they are working on, which is a brain-to-machine interface. It also seems that the company could be pretty close to making that a reality because according to Musk, he estimates that they should have something that can treat those with severe brain injuries in about four years.

However for regular use by the masses, Musk thinks that it might take longer anywhere between 8-10 years. Musk and Neuralink wouldn’t be the first to explore the idea of using our brains to control machines. In the past we have seen how researchers have created wheelchairs that can be controlled by the mind.

In fact just the other day Facebook shared their plans at attempting to build a system in which we can think of what we want to type and it will appear on the screen, using nothing more than just our brain power. Whether or not Musk’s latest venture will be successful remains to be seen, but given his past success and his resources, why not?
