Injustice 2 Poison Ivy Trailer Released

If you love arcade style fighting games then there’s a good chance you are eagerly anticipating the release of Injustice 2. So far we’ve seen several trailers released for the characters that will be part of the game, with the previous one featuring the Flash. For those hankering for more footage, you might be interested in the latest release which features none other than Poison Ivy.

According to the description of the video, “Dr. Pamela Isley was once an innovative, radical botanical biochemist with a singular goal: make the world safe for plant life to flourish!” Poison Ivy will be a new addition to the game as the character was not available in the original Injustice: Gods Among Us, so if you felt that she should have been part of the cast, then Injustice 2 will address that.

Injustice 2 is expected to offer up a new storyline and new characters that weren’t previously available. We’re also talking about a new gear system that will offer up bonus stats as well as new looks. The game has been scheduled for a release on the 16th of May, 2017 which is a little under a month away where it will be available on the Xbox One and the PS4. Unfortunately for now there is no mention of whether it will be released on the PC at a later date.

Samsung Downplays Galaxy S8’s Red Tint Display Problem

Following the snafu that was the Galaxy Note 7’s launch last year, we’re sure that there are Samsung Galaxy S8 owners out there who might be a bit wary about any potential phone defects. In fact just recently it was reported that some early owners of the handset were claiming that their displays showed a reddish tint to them.

According to a report from The Investor, it seems that Samsung doesn’t think it is a big deal. The report claims that Samsung has advised users who are affected by the problem that they can easily fix it themselves by going to the phone’s settings and color optimization. This seems to echo what we heard the other day where an industry expert said that it could be due to the color balancing technology Samsung uses for their phones.

However there are some who claim that the reddish tint is due to faulty chips in the handset that have caused the GPU in the handset to malfunction, but clearly Samsung doesn’t think that is the case. During our review of the handset, we did not notice any sort of reddish tint so we’re not sure if adjusting the color optimization settings will fix it for users, but if you are affected by it then perhaps it could be worth trying. If that fails then we guess you’ll want to send it back to Samsung.

Eating Avocado May Help Prevent Risks Associated With Heart Disease

Pass the avocado, please.

A new analysis of existing research shows that consuming the creamy fruit can help with metabolic syndrome, a constellation of diseases and symptoms that include heart disease and type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol and obesity.

Researchers analyzed more than 100 published studies that examined how consuming avocado can affect individual aspects of metabolic syndrome. They found that avocado, along with avocado oil or even peel, may have protective effects on the heart, including lowering “bad” cholesterol, reducing hypertension and lowering risk of obesity.

An avocado-rich diet had the most positive effect on “good” HDL cholesterol levels and may lower “bad” LDL cholesterol levels. That’s important because high levels of bad cholesterol is one of the biggest indicators of heart disease risk, according to the National Institutes of Health.

The researchers also noted that avocados can reduce hypertension as well as lower the risk for obesity and type 2 diabetes. All of these elements are critical in fighting metabolic syndrome, they wrote.

Most of the research concentrated on consuming “meat” of the avocado, AKA the delicious stuff you spread on your toast, but some studies also looked at the nutritional effects of avocado peels, seeds, oil and pits and found similar health benefits. (Experts note you should just stick to the regular flesh of the fruit you typically eat.)

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, with more than 600,000 people dying of it every year. You should exercise regularly, avoid unhealthy behaviors like smoking, monitor your blood pressure and check in with your doctor to help with lower your chances of cardiovascular problems.

And, as the study shows, it’s also recommended that you practice good eating habits by consuming foods like avocados. If you’re looking for a few delicious ways to incorporate more avocado in your life, try one of these mouthwatering recipes. You’ll be doing your tastebuds and your health a favor.

Early Galaxy S8 owners complain of red-tinted screens

Xiaomi Mi 6 Has Been Officially Launched

Last week it was teased that this week Xiaomi could launch their new flagship handset in the form of the Xiaomi Mi 6. For those who have been looking forward to the phone, you’ll be pleased to learn that the Xiaomi Mi 6 has been officially launched and from what we can tell, it packs some pretty impressive hardware under the hood.

For starters we’re looking at a phone with a 5.15-inch display with curved glass on all sides of the phone. Under the hood, users can also expect to find Qualcomm’s latest chipset in the form of the Snapdragon 835, and it seems that Xiaomi has decided to pack the Mi 6 with a whopping 6GB of RAM.

It will also come with a 12MP rear-facing dual camera setup on the back where it combines a wide-angle lens with a zoom lens. The phone will also feature a 3,350mAh battery and it looks like Xiaomi will be continuing the trend of not including a headphone jack with the phone. It will be priced at around $360 for the 64GB model, $420 for the 128GB model, and there is a version with 128GB of storage and a ceramic back that will cost around $435.

As for availability, given that Xiaomi has yet to break into the US market as far as smartphones are concerned, we doubt that the Xiaomi Mi 6 will see the light of day stateside, but you could always try a grey market import if you absolutely have to have the device.

Spotify’s Student Pricing Expands To 33 More Countries

Several years ago, Spotify launched their student pricing scheme where if you can prove that you are a student in a college in the US, you’d be able to subscribe to Spotify Premium for $5, which is basically 50% off the original price. Its availability has been a bit limited, but not anymore as Spotify has since expanded it to 33 new countries.

For students who are interested, head on over to Spotify’s website and sign up. Note that you’ll have to verify that you’re still a student and that this pricing will only be valid for the duration that you are a student, so don’t expect to graduate and keep paying $5 for the next 10 years. This plan is also similar to what Apple is offering Apple Music subscribers, so we guess it really boils down to which platform you think caters to your needs the best.

The subscription to Spotify Premium as a student is essentially the same if you were paying full price. This means that you’ll get access to offline listening, improved sound quality, and also as Spotify has recently announced, Premium subscribers will get access to release of new albums ahead of those on the free tier (although this seems to only apply to albums under Universal’s label, for now).

Panasonic LUMIX DC-ZS70 Compact Digital Camera Launched

While our smartphones make for great cameras that we can pull out of our pockets and snap photos while on the go, sometimes there is still a need for a “proper” camera. However if you’d rather not lug around a DSLR or invest into a mirrorless system and its interchangeable lenses, a compact camera is probably you next best bet.

Panasonic might have the answer for you in the form of the recently announced Panasonic LUMIX DC-ZS70. This is a compact camera that comes with an ultra-wide 30x optical zoom lens, meaning that at its widest you’ll be able to snap photos at 24mm, or if you wanted to zoom you have the option of a 30x optical zoom, so you’ll essentially be able to get in up to 720mm.

Other specs of the camera include a 20.3MP sensor and is also capable of capturing 4K video. It will also come with a Venus Engine image processor, and there seems to be some kind of Lytro-like functionality called “Post Focus”, where users can choose which area of the photo they want to focus on after the shot has been taken.

There will also be a 3-inch LCD display with touchscreen functionality that can also tilt up by 180-degrees, which will also activate Self Shot mode. If this sounds like a compact you wouldn’t mind getting your hands on, the Panasonic LUMIX DC-ZS70 will be made available at the end of May where it is priced at $450.

Some Pixel XL Devices Accidentally Receive Internal Android Update

Before an update is released to a smartphone, clearly there is testing that needs to be done on the update before it is released to the public. This is why alpha and beta builds exist where bugs and issues are caught before they affect too many users. We have seen in the past how some updates can end up rendering devices unusable, which is why testing is important.

Unfortunately it seems that Google might have accidentally seeded some Pixel XL owners a dogfood build of an Android update. According to reports, it seems that some Pixel XL owners have received an Android update that has been clearly marked as “confidential internal only”, meaning that this update was aimed at Google employees and not meant for the public.

As for what’s inside this update, it seems that Google might have caught a break because while the update weighs in at 62.3MB and has the build number N2G470, users who have received the update are reporting that there aren’t any visible changes. There could be some internal changes but as far as user-visible changes are concerned, there does not appear to be anything different.

It is also lucky that this update has not caused any Pixel XL devices to malfunction, or at least we haven’t heard any reports. In any case we expect that this update should be released to users in the near future and hopefully there’ll be a changelog that shows us what we can expect with it.
