The internet is a ubiquitous part of our daily lives. It’s where many of us turn when we need to file our taxes, apply for jobs or search for housing. But one Republican lawmaker who voted to roll back FCC privacy regulations last month said, “Nobody…
As you might have heard, LG is facing a class-action lawsuit over the bootloop problems that presented itself in a number of its flagship phones, like the Nexus 5X for example. The problem isn’t so much the bootloop itself, but how LG handled the situation. Now it looks like Google could be facing a similar lawsuit over the Nexus 6P.
If you might recall, the Nexus 6P was also facing bootloop problems last year and now it looks like law firm Chimicles & Tikellis LLP (C&T) is considering filing a class-action lawsuit against Google (via Android Police). The lawsuit is also expected to cover a premature battery shutdown problem that some consumers are reporting.
Once again it seems that the issue customers are having aren’t so much with the actual hardware/software problems of the phone, but rather the passing of the buck which neither Google nor Huawei appear to be interested in accepting responsibility for. The law firm writes, “Consumers report that Google tells consumers to seek warranty coverage from Huawei for this issue, too, and that Huawei is largely unhelpful and often stonewalls attempts to obtain warranty coverage.”
Nothing has been filed yet and for all we know, it may never be filed, but it seems that trouble is brewing.

Unlike computers where getting an upgrade in RAM, GPU, CPU, cooling, and storage is a piece of cake, upgrading one’s smartphone is pretty rare. This is because for the most part it is a delicate process that not many shops are willing to undertake, and also because not everyone has the tools or components available.
However it seems that over in China, one XDA forum member by the name of Cathair2906 managed to get his Nexus 5X upgraded in the RAM department for a mere $60. According the post, his phone was affected by the bootloop issue and because it was outside the warranty, LG Hong Kong had apparently rejected a request for maintenance.
This resulted in Cathair2906 bringing it to an unofficial repair center, at which he was told why not upgrade his phone’s RAM while he was at it? “Thereafter, i decided to send my 5x to China for CPU fixing, as the RAM is packed with the CPU together, the guy suggested me upgrading it to 3 or 4 GB RAM. That’s how the 4GB RAM 5X comes out.”
He then provided several screenshots that prove that his Nexus 5X is indeed running at 4GB of RAM without any issues. Of course we wouldn’t recommend you asking your repair center to do this for you, but $60 doesn’t seem too unreasonable, does it?

As you might have heard, last year the movie industry and Star Wars fans were dealt a pretty devastating blow when it was announced that actress Carrie Fisher had passed away. The actress was best known for her role as Princess Leia in the Star Wars franchise, and also as something of a wizard at fixing Hollywood scripts.
Unsurprisingly this led to some questioning what this meant for the future of the Star Wars movies. There was a report from about a week ago that “confirmed” that Fisher would appear in Star Wars: Episode IX (which would be the movie after The Last Jedi), but now a report from The Hollywood Reporter is claiming otherwise.
According to Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, she confirmed that Fisher would not be appearing in Episode 9, but fans can expect to see her in Episode 8. “Sadly, Carrie will not be in nine. But we will see a lot of Carrie in eight.” This is a bit confusing because the previous report came from Fisher’s brother, Todd Fisher, who said that the family had given Disney and Lucasfilm permission to use recent footage in Episode 9.
However Kennedy has since said that maybe Fisher was “confused”. In any case this is as official as it gets, so we guess for fans of Princess Leia, Episode 8 will probably be the last we’ll be seeing of her for now.

So far Disney and Lucasfilm has done a good job with the recent Star Wars movies, at least in comparison to the prequel trilogy which many did not seem to like very much. Now given how well-received The Force Awakens and Rogue One was, safe to say that many are anticipating The Last Jedi.
The good news is that we are finally getting a taste of what’s to come, thanks to the official release of the teaser trailer. Now for those who don’t want to spoil any bit of the movie for themselves (we know you guys are out there), then maybe you’ll want to skip this teaser as it does show up quite a number of scenes that we can expect from the upcoming movie.
However for those who don’t care about spoilers (at least spoilers in trailer form), then you’ll definitely want to check it out. We won’t say anything about the trailer here just in case there are some who don’t even want to read the spoilers, but it is good! The movie is set for a release on the 15th of December, 2017 and at this time of writing, the teaser has managed to rack up over 9 million views in the last 8 hours or so since it was released.

Earlier this week Nintendo made a very surprising announcement when they revealed that they would be discontinuing the extremely popular NES Classic Edition. Given that last we heard they managed to sell 1.5 million units, it seemed like something that they’d want to keep making and selling, right?
Now there is some potential good news, and we have to say that you probably shouldn’t get your hopes up just yet but there might be a very slim chance the discontinuation could be temporary. According to the folks at Polygon, it has been noticed that the Japanese website for the Famicom Classic Edition (which is Japan’s version of the NES Classic Edition), Nintendo’s phrasing of the discontinuation suggests that the console could be coming back.
According to the translation, the message on the website reads, “This product has ended production for now. When production is being resumed, we will tell you on our website.” Now we’re not sure if something could be lost in translation, but it definitely does sound like Nintendo isn’t completely closing the doors just yet.
It is entirely possible that maybe this could only apply to the Famicom Classic Edition and that the NES Classic Edition will still be permanently discontinued, but we’re really hoping that is not the case. Either way like we said, don’t get your hopes up just yet and if you still haven’t gotten your hands on the console, now’s probably a good time to do so.

Dragon Ball Z VR Is Coming To Japan
Posted in: Today's ChiliThe technology of virtual reality has unlocked many possibilities, especially in the field of gaming where gamers will now be able to experience and play games in a completely different way than before. For example first-person games like flying simulators can now be a more immersive and realistic experiencer thanks to VR.
It also paves the way for some pretty novel gaming concepts, such as Dragon Ball Z VR which has been officially announced in Japan. This is thanks to Japanese toy maker Mega House who will be releasing a Capsule Corporation branded VR headset that will be able to house a smartphone that allows gamers to play a mobile version of Dragon Ball Z in virtual reality.
To top it off, there will also be hand sensors and a VR mat to complete the experience, and in turn allow gamers to pull off some pretty interesting moves, as you can see for yourself in the video above that demonstrates how it works. Is it a novelty? We think it is, but for Dragon Ball fans out there it could prove to be a pretty fun experience, although we’re not sure if there are plans to release it worldwide.
Dragon Ball Z VR is expected to see a release this coming June in Japan where it will be priced at 12,000 yen (US$110).

When 10-year-old Abigail Bruce was given a pet goat for her birthday last week, her dad wasn’t exactly excited.
“I didn’t approve of him at first,” Nick Bruce told Inside Edition. “But he’ll be here from now on.”
That’s because the goat, which Abigail named “Speedy,” turned out to be a true lifesaver two days after he came to their home in Weiner, Arkansas.
Last Saturday, Abigail was sleeping in the living room with the goat, when Speedy woke her up by jumping on her legs and then her chest.
“I was thinking what’s happening? And all I seen was smoke,” she told local WREG TV.
Abigail ran to her parents’ bedroom.
“She said it was smoky and she could hardly breathe,” Nick Bruce told local KAIT TV. “She said she thought it was hailing outside but when I got up to check, it was the fire that was coming around the outside window.”
Turns out the garage was on fire, but the Bruces were able to jump out of the bedroom window and onto the front lawn.
The fire department showed up minutes later and extinguished the fire. However, the smoke and soot damaged everything in the house.
Everything but their admiration for their lifesaving goat.
“He knew what to do and everything,” Abigail told WREG TV. “I think he was special before we got him.”
Investigators believe the fire was caused by an electrical problem.
The Bruce family is staying at a friend’s home until they can get back on their feet. Speedy is staying in another friend’s barn.
Bruce told KAIT TV that he is happy his family is OK since, unlike his home, they are irreplaceable.
Abigail also thinks Speedy may be the best birthday present ever.
“I’m glad we got it before the fire happened or we wouldn’t be here,” she told the website.

Trump's Pick For Army Secretary Has A Troubling History Of Anti-Muslim Remarks
Posted in: Today's ChiliA Muslim civil liberties group is opposing the confirmation of President Donald Trump’s pick for Army secretary due to his history of deeply disparaging remarks about Islam and Muslims.
The White House announced last week that Trump will nominate Republican Tennessee state Sen. Mark Green for the role. Green ― a physician, Iraq War veteran and Bronze Star recipient ― would oversee all matters relating to the U.S. Army if confirmed by the Senate.
But the Council on American-Islamic Relations says Green’s “past Islamophobic statements” should disqualify him from the role.
In a press release this week, CAIR highlighted remarks Green made about Islam and Muslims at a tea party meeting in Chattanooga in the fall of 2016.
“Great question,” Green said when someone asked him about an armed insurrection in the U.S. staged by people “who don’t belong here, like Muslims…”
Green, who did not respond to a request for comment on this story, describes himself as Christian on the official Tennessee state senate website. At the tea party meeting, he made it clear he didn’t want students in Tennessee learning about Islam.
When an audience member read a passage from a school textbook that correctly stated that Muslims believe in all the prophets in the Old and New Testament, Green replied, “When you start teaching the pillars of Islam … we will not tolerate that in this state.”
But if students did have to learn about Islam, they should only learn “the history of the Ottoman Empire” and “the assault of Islam out into the Levant and North Africa and into Constantinople,” Green said.
When speaking about his missionary work in a Toronto Pakistani community, Green also incorrectly claimed that Muslims don’t believe Jesus was “born from a virgin.”
CAIR, in its press release, stated that “Muslims worldwide love and revere the Prophet Jesus.” The organization also cited a couple of passages in the Quran:
“Behold! The angels said: ‘O Mary! God giveth thee glad tidings of a Word from Him. His name will be Jesus Christ, the son of Mary, held in honor in this world and the Hereafter and in (the company of) those nearest to God.’” (The Holy Quran, 3:45)
“How can I have a son when no man has ever touched me?” (Mary in The Holy Quran, 3:47)
At another point in the tea party meeting, Slate notes that Green agreed with an audience member who said former President Barack Obama was not a U.S. citizen. And when asked if Obama was secretly a Muslim ― an Islamophobic conspiracy theory ― Green refused to answer.
“I think, standing alone, [Green’s] nomination is one thing,” Ibrahim Hooper, a national spokesman for CAIR, told The Huffington Post on Friday. “But coming as it does after all of these other Islamophobes and white supremacists who have been nominated and confirmed ― Stephen Miller, Steve Bannon, Frank Wuco ― it just sends a very negative message to the American Muslim community and to Muslims worldwide: People with these kind of extremist views are now in the halls of power in our government.”
LGBT rights groups have also raised alarm over Green’s nomination. Ashley Broadway-Mack, president of the American Military Partner Association, an LGBT organization for military families, said in a statement that Green has made “a shameful political career out of targeting L.G.B.T. people for discrimination.”
Asked once about transgender members of the military, Green said that “if you poll the psychiatrists, they’re going to tell you that transgender is a disease.”
Being transgender is not a disease.
If confirmed, according to the Department of Defense, Green would have “statutory responsibility for all matters relating to the United States Army: manpower, personnel, reserve affairs, installations, environmental issues, weapons systems and equipment acquisition, communications, and financial management.”
