Study Finds Pokemon GO Players Tend To Be Friendly And Positive

Competitive gaming can sometimes bring out an ugly side in people that you might not have noticed was there before. This is an issue with many games, which is why games like League of Legends and DotA 2 have tools in place to report such players, and why some games such as Hearthstone do not even allow gamers to chat with each other.

However not all games bring out the worst in people. In fact according to a recent study from the University of Wisconsin-Madison that was published in the journal of Media Psychology (via CNET), it was found that Pokemon GO players tend to be more positive, friendly, and upbeat kind of people.

The study observed 400 people about 3 weeks following the launch of Pokemon GO back in July last year. Out of the 400, 40% played the game and based on their observations, those who played the game tended to experience more positive emotions, made new friends, strengthened existing friendships, and even got more exercise as a result of the game.

According to the study’s author James Alex Bonus, “The more people were playing, the more they were engaging in behaviors that reflected making new connections — making Facebook friends, introducing themselves to someone new, exchanging phone numbers with someone, or spending more time with old friends and learning new things about them.”

Standalone Nintendo Switch Dock Will Be Available 19th May

Given the portable nature of the Nintendo Switch, you’ll be able to play it pretty much anywhere you go. However for those who prefer connecting to a TV, there’s always the dock that will help you do that. But what if you had multiple TVs and you didn’t want to play in just one location? That’s where additional docks will come in handy.

The good news is that Nintendo has recently announced that come 19th of May, standalone Nintendo Switch docks will be sold in the US. However the company did note that they will be available in “limited quantities”, so we guess gamers will have to most fast if they hope to secure them before they are sold out. Presumably there are supply constraints, but that should ease up in the later months, so you could always wait if the initial batch is sold out.

Nintendo had previously envisioned how the Switch could become so ubiquitous that in time, docks will be so commonplace that checking into a hotel means you could just dock your Switch and play on the hotel’s TV, and we guess making these standalone docks available is a step in that direction.

The standalone dock is priced at $90 and will be available from Nintendo’s website on the 19th of May. They will also be available from retailers although no specific retailers were specified, but it should be your usual suspects.

Little Miss Flint Blasts Donald Trump Over Broken Water Crisis Promise

A 9-year-old girl from Flint, Michigan, has sent a powerful message to President Donald Trump about her community’s water crisis.

Amariyanna Copeny, who goes by the name Mari, blasted Trump for breaking his campaign promise to “fix Flint” in a speech at a rally outside the White House on Thursday.

The “Little Miss Flint” title-holder skewered Trump at the “We Belong Together” protest for prioritizing immigration policies over solving the lead poisoning of her city’s water supply.

His failure to act on the issue was “one promise that he failed to keep, just like his promise to make America great again,” she said.

“One promise he made sure to keep was to build his wall,” Copeny added.

She also compared Trump unfavorably with his predecessor, former President Barack Obama ― with whom she met in Flint last May, after writing him a letter about the dangerous levels of lead in the area’s drinking water.

A later meeting with Trump didn’t go as well.

He was not so very nice to me at all,”Copeny said. “He didn’t even let me ask one question.”

In January, officials announced that drinking water in the city complied with federal health standards ― some three years after it was found to be contaminated with lead.

Some residents have still been warned not to drink it, however, until the city’s lead pipes are replaced. In the meantime, they continue to use bottled water for drinking and cooking.

George Lucas Explains The True Meaning Of 'Star Wars'

George Lucas made a surprise appearance at the Star Wars Celebration event in Orlando where he took part in a panel discussion on the film franchise.

The “Star Wars” creator outlined in an interview with actor Warwick Davis at the event Thursday what his beloved film series is really all about.

“The idea was simply to do a high-adventure film that I loved when I was a kid with meaningful psychological themes,” he said. “I’m not supposed to say this, and I wasn’t supposed to say it then, but it’s a film for 12-year-olds.”

He explained:

“It was designed to be a film, like mythology, of: This is what we stand for. You’re about to enter the real world. You’re 12 years old, you’re going to go on into the big world, you’re moving away from your parents being the center of focus.

You’re probably scared, you don’t know what’s going to happen, and here is a little idea of some of the things you should pay attention to: Friendships, honesty, trust and doing the right thing, living on the light side, avoiding the dark side. Those are things that it was meant to do.”

Lucas joined at the celebration by some of the biggest names in the franchise’s history, including Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Billy Dee Williams and composer John Williams

The event also featured a moving tribute to Carrie Fisher, who died in December at the age of 60

Little Girl Stops Crying When She Hears Marvin Gaye's 'Let's Get It On'

A classic Marvin Gaye song helps turn a 1-year-old girl’s frown upside down in a new viral video.

Little Brilynn hears the opening bars to the soul singer’s 1973 track “Let’s Get It On” and immediately stops crying. Even more adorably, she then begins bopping away to the tune:

The youngster’s mother, Katherine Dees, shared the clip to Facebook on Tuesday. The footage shows her oldest daughter, 11-year-old Kayden, comforting her little sister before the music comes on.

Dees, from Highlands in Texas, said Brilynn first indicated she was a fan of the song after hearing it on a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup commercial. It just happened to catch her attention a few times, and the more it came on the TV the more she loved it,” Dees told TODAY.

Dees also revealed how the song was sometimes even enough to raise Brilynn from her slumber.

She can be playing or even napping and she will stop everything, or wake up and stare at the TV, which leads to her shoulder shrugs and dancing,” she added.

Check out Brilynn’s reaction to the song above, and remember Gaye’s lyrical genius below:

Democrats Are Preparing A Bill To Completely Wean The U.S. Off Fossil Fuels By 2050

Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) plans to introduce legislation later this month outlining how the United States can completely wean itself off fossil fuels by 2050, his office told The Huffington Post.

The senator plans to introduce the bill the week of April 24, shortly before the People’s Climate Movement, an annual protest for action on global warming that is expected to draw thousands of people to rallies across the country. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) will co-sponsor the bill, called the “100 By ‘50 Act.”

“With an anti-science Congress and president in power right now, some might doubt that this is the right time to push for a bold new strategy to tackle climate change and make a massive fundamental shift in the way we produce energy,” Merkley said in a statement to HuffPost. “But the fact is, we don’t have four years to wait to begin this rapid transition.”

The legislation calls for half of all electricity in the U.S. to be generated by renewable sources, such as solar and wind power, by 2030.

The bill has little chance of becoming law in a Republican-dominated Congress under President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly dismissed global warming as a hoax and made boosting fossil fuel production a top priority. Instead, the legislation offers a vision of a future that competes with Trump’s plans for vigorous coal, oil and gas extraction and pipelines crisscrossing the continent.

Merkley staffers declined to outline specific policy proposals ahead of the bill’s rollout. But the strategy they described is twofold: encouraging the electrification of vehicles, home heating and other combustion-powered aspects of daily life on the one hand, and converting the power grid to zero-emissions energy sources on the other.

The legislation addresses the needs of low-income families and communities of color, who are disproportionately affected by pollution. According to a study from 2011 — the most recent data cited by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People — 68 percent of black Americans live within 30 miles of a coal-fired power plant, compared to just 56 percent of the white population. As The Root noted in 2013, that may be why 1 in 6 African-American children suffer from asthma, compared to 1 in 10 U.S. children overall. The bill also proposes ways to transition fossil fuel workers, such as coal miners, into new careers.

I actually think if you step outside the Beltway for a second, it reflects where the country is headed.
Rob Sargent, energy program director at Environment America

Environmentalists are already planning to use the bill as a call to arms for eco-conscious voters who flooded activist organizations with donations after Trump’s election.

“There are many ways to resist Trump, and being clearer about our North Star is one,” Jason Kowalski, the policy director at the environmental group 350.org, told HuffPost by phone on Thursday. “We think, in the Trump era, the best defense is a good offense.”

Gaining ground on what has been criticized as a backfooted response to Trump’s climate policies is critical for Democrats, who are under intense pressure from constituents to deliver unto Trump the same sort of intransigent opposition Republicans staged against former President Barack Obama. Merkley aides stressed that the bill takes a bottom-up approach, building off progress that environmental activists have already made on a local level.

A vast majority of Americans said they disagreed with Trump’s hard-line climate stances, according to a HuffPost/YouGov poll released last month. Three states ― California, Massachusetts and New York ― already have plans in place to practically end the use of fossil fuels within the next few decades. Two years ago, Hawaii passed a law to completely convert its electricity sector to renewable energy by 2045. Roughly 25 cities across the country have made similar commitments, as well as almost 90 big companies, including Bank of America, Google and Walmart.

“Its prospects aren’t great,” Rob Sargent, energy program director at the Boston-based nonprofit Environment America, told HuffPost of the Democratic legislation. “But it absolutely is putting us on the trajectory we need to be on in order to address the environmental challenges we face. And I actually think if you step outside the Beltway for a second, it reflects where the country is headed.”
