Samsung Galaxy S8 VS iPhone 7 Plus In Speed Test

Recently there was a video published in which we saw the Samsung Galaxy S8 go against the LG G6 in a speed test. Given that both Samsung and LG are rivals since both companies pretty much make similar products and cater to similar markets, it was a pretty exciting thing to see. However we’re sure many are curious about Samsung’s other rival: Apple.

Thankfully we have our answers as the good folks over at EverythingApplePro on YouTube have uploaded a video which compares the Galaxy S8 against the iPhone 7 Plus. In the initial testing where they compared how fast apps took to load and how long they would load once they were closed and reopened, the iPhone 7 Plus completely crushed the Galaxy S8 where it did not even come close.

It’s also interesting to note that on the Galaxy S8, there seems to be some kind of weird lag from the time the user touches on an app’s icon to launch it to the time that it actually launches. We’re not sure what’s up with that but maybe a software fix could address that. That being said, this by no means indicates that the Galaxy S8 is a slouch because it is anything but.

Not to mention it’s not as if Android users would so easily jump ship to iOS simply because of such a test, but it’s still rather interesting especially when Apple has in the past been given a lot of flack for their less than impressive (on paper) hardware.

The Weather Channel App Now Has Lyft Integration

Is today a good day to walk to where you’re going, or would it be better to drive or maybe hail a ridesharing service like Lyft? Those are some questions we tend to ask ourselves sometimes, and if you use The Weather Channel app on your phone for your daily weather forecasts, then you might be interested in the latest update.

It seems that The Weather Channel’s app will now come with Lyft integration. What this means is that users can now request for a Lyft ride within the app itself, as opposed to having to swap to the Lyft app to do so. The integration will sync your calendar with the forecasts which means that it will also know whether or not a ride is necessary based on the weather.

However it should be noted that for now, this integration is only available if you use a Samsung device, although this isn’t the first time that Lyft has integrated itself with a third-party app. According to VentureBeat, they were told by a Lyft spokesperson that the partnership with Samsung is just the beginning.

What this means is that we can most likely expect that in the future, we can see more devices being compatible with this feature. It’s not exactly a make or break feature, but it could come in handy in the future.

SwitchCharge keeps your Switch topped up while propped up

The Nintendo Switch is admittedly creative in the way it has mixed console and handheld gaming but, in the weeks that followed its hotly received launch, a few design warts have popped up. One of biggest design headaches is the location of the Switch’s charging port, which basically meant you can’t charge it while playing with the Switch propped up … Continue reading

He’s being hailed a hero for plunging into an icy lake to save his dog, but the Canadian man in the above video insists that most people would do the same.

Duncan MacIver sprang into action on Saturday when his pooch Cosmo fell through the thin ice in St.Albert, Alberta, and struggled frantically to stay afloat in the frigid water, CTV News reports.

MacIver was almost fully submerged as he waded out to reach Cosmo. He pushed him by the hind leg onto sturdier ice and eventually carried his pet. The pair again sank into the water on the way back to shore.

The hero told CTV Edmonton in the below segment that “love” was the main factor that spurred him into action.

“It’s a split second thing,” MacIver said to CTV. “You’re not just going to let him die, right?”

CTV was coincidentally on hand to capture the dramatic footage because it was producing a segment on the dangers of thin ice.

Reporter Hypnotized By Mystical Pen On Live TV

We can only wonder what an Australian news anchor was thinking when she was caught staring whimsically at a pen during a live television broadcast.

Natasha Exelby had been zoning out during a pre-taped segment on the Australian Broadcasting Network’s News 24 this weekend. The segment ended but it took a few moments before Exelby, a freelance journalist, realized the camera was back on her. Her reaction was pretty priceless.

The network on Tuesday denied earlier reports that she’d been fired, but not before viewers, including some celebrities and politicians, rushed to her defense. And fellow journalists expressed support by sharing their own bloopers.

Exelby was a good sport about the whole situation, sending thanks to supporters from “myself and mesmerizing pen.”

Rebrands often follow a PR nightmare.

And with United Airlines in the news for all the wrong reasons this week after a passenger was forcibly dragged from a flight because the airline overbooked it, social media users have suggested dozens of new mottos it may want to adopt.

But with recommendations such as “We overbooked but you pay the price” to “We put the hospital into hospitality” trending via the #NewUnitedAirlinesMottos on Twitter, it’s unlikely United will take them up anytime soon.

Here’s a sampling of the best suggestions so far:

Syrian Army Reportedly Drops Barrel Bombs Hours After U.S. Warned It Not To

function onPlayerReadyVidible(e){‘undefined’!=typeof HPTrack&&HPTrack.Vid.Vidible_track(e)}!function(e,i){if(e.vdb_Player){if(‘object’==typeof commercial_video){var a=”,o=’m.fwsitesection=’+commercial_video.site_and_category;if(a+=o,commercial_video[‘package’]){var c=’&m.fwkeyvalues=sponsorship%3D’+commercial_video[‘package’];a+=c}e.setAttribute(‘vdb_params’,a)}i(e.vdb_Player)}else{var t=arguments.callee;setTimeout(function(){t(e,i)},0)}}(document.getElementById(‘vidible_1’),onPlayerReadyVidible);

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Syrian government warplanes dropped barrel bombs on rebel-held areas of Hama province on Tuesday, a day after the United States said their use could lead to further U.S. strikes in Syria.

A Syrian military source denied the Observatory report and said the army did not use barrel bombs – drums or cylinders packed with explosives and shrapnel that cause indiscriminate destruction on the ground.

The United States fired cruise missiles at a Syrian air base last week in response to a poison gas attack on a town in northwestern Syria which Washington says was carried out by government forces. The government denies responsibility.

The Observatory said “a number” of barrel bombs had been dropped on the towns of Taybat al-Imam and Soran north of Hama city in an area where rebel groups spearheaded by jihadist factions launched a major offensive last month.

Observatory director Rami Abdulrahman said the number of barrel bombs dropped by government warplanes was relatively small. U.N. investigators have recorded regular use of such bombs by government forces in Syria.

White House spokesman Sean Spicer on Monday mentioned barrel bombs alongside poison gas as weapons that were causing “babies and children” to suffer. “If you gas a baby, if you put a barrel bomb into innocent people … you will see a response from this president,” he said.

The Syrian military source said: “We do not use these barrels and they do not exist in the Syrian Arab Army.”

Army operations were continuing across Syria, and “will not stop”, the sources said.

A Volcano Almost Appeared On The 'Lost' Island To Explain Its Powers

function onPlayerReadyVidible(e){‘undefined’!=typeof HPTrack&&HPTrack.Vid.Vidible_track(e)}!function(e,i){if(e.vdb_Player){if(‘object’==typeof commercial_video){var a=”,o=’m.fwsitesection=’+commercial_video.site_and_category;if(a+=o,commercial_video[‘package’]){var c=’&m.fwkeyvalues=sponsorship%3D’+commercial_video[‘package’];a+=c}e.setAttribute(‘vdb_params’,a)}i(e.vdb_Player)}else{var t=arguments.callee;setTimeout(function(){t(e,i)},0)}}(document.getElementById(‘vidible_1’),onPlayerReadyVidible);

Way back in 2010, the passengers of Oceanic Flight 815 on “Lost” were finally enveloped in a wave of bright light, marking the end of the series after a fiery battle between good and evil. (And many viewers were left feeling deeply confused.)

As it turns out, that finale was supposed to look a lot different. As “Lost” insiders told Entertainment Weekly, there was supposed to be a volcano on the island, and it was supposed to erupt.

While observant viewers would have remembered the volcano from a flashback to the DHARMA Initiative days, it could’ve had a much more vital role in the show. Series co-creator Damon Lindelof explained how the volcano was meant to “visualize and dramatize the idea that the island itself is all that separates the world from hellfire and damnation.” It also birthed the smoke monster, who, in human form, was known as The Man in Black (played in part by Terry O’Quinn).

Showrunner Carlton Cuse recounted how the “Lost” team was “always looking to cannibalize anything on Hawaii,” where they filmed the series. “We also thought of the island as a character on the show, so we were always looking for things that would give it more personality,” Cuse told EW.

In the end, the volcano was supposed to erupt as Jack (Matthew Fox) fought The Man in Black over the island’s fate. As Lindelof explained:

The volcano had been dormant for the duration of the series, but based on moving into this endgame, the island had become unstable and the volcano was going to erupt. We were going to have lots of seismic activity, and ultimately, there was going to be this big fight between the forces of good and the forces of evil, which ended up in the series manifesting as Jack and The Man in Black, in the midst of magma. Magma spewing everywhere!

Instead, the pair fought, alongside Kate (Evangeline Lilly), in a glowing cave ― a less expensive substitute for a magma-spewing volcano. Volcanoes, apparently, are quite expensive. And so Ol’ Smokey was born out of that same, budget-friendly cave of light, after his brother Jacob (Mark Pellegrino) tossed him in as revenge for killing their mother.

“ABC was like, ‘Guys, we love you, and we’re letting you end the show; we can’t let you bankrupt the network in the process,’” Lindelof said.

In the end, viewers were left with only a slightly less clear picture of how the island works, as the finale left plenty of other unanswered questions.
