Sprint Now Offering The LG G6 At 50% Off

The LG G6 is still a fairly new handset but it seems that either Sprint or LG is desperate to drum up some sales because in an announcement by the carrier, for a limited time only, they will be selling the LG G6 for 50% off which means that based on installment plans, customers will only have to pay $14.75 a month over the course of 24 months versus $29.50.

Like we said this offer is for a limited period of time and is expected to run until the 11th of May, 2017. The best part is that despite it being such a great promo, Sprint and LG will maintain the previous promotion which is that for every purchase of the LG G6, customers will be eligible to redeem a free Google Home device worth $129.

This is clearly a fantastic deal for those who are looking to save themselves some money, and while they’re calling it a launch promo, we can’t help but feel that maybe this could be LG’s way of generating as much sales as they possibly can in the face of Samsung launching the Galaxy S8 and S8+.

If this sounds like something you’d like to take advantage of, you’ll be able to do so by heading on over to Sprint’s website for the details. Alternatively if Sprint isn’t your carrier of choice, LG’s promo website will also list other promotions and offers from other carriers.

Samsung Korea Confirms Pricing Of 6GB Galaxy S8+

Recently Samsung Korea pretty much confirmed the existence of the 6GB Samsung Galaxy S8+. However for those who are curious about the pricing of the phone, Samsung Korea has revealed those details (via SamMobile) as well and sure enough as per the previous rumors, this phone will not come cheap.

In an earlier post, it was rumored that the 6GB variant could cost upwards of $1,000 and according to Samsung Korea’s announcement, it is true as the handset’s price has been revealed as 1,155,000 KRW which is $1,032 after conversion, but this is only if it is purchased with a contract. Off-contract pricing was revealed as 1,270,000 KRW which is roughly $1,135 after conversion.

As it stands the Galaxy S8+ is priced at $850 which is slightly higher than what we’ve been used to, but these prices would make it several hundred dollars more. We’re not sure who might need so much RAM in their phones, but we guess the option is there for customers who are willing to pay for it.

So far the 6GB 128GB storage variant has been confirmed for Korea but it is also expected to find its way to China, thanks to a recent listing on China’s TENAA website. There’s no telling if Samsung will eventually launch the 6GB version stateside or other parts of the world, but we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled and will update you guys if it does.

The OnePlus 3 Touch Latency Has Been Fixed

While a lot of phones have specs that look similar, it’s the subtleties that makes all the difference. For example it could be how manufacturers optimize their UI to make it smooth, or how to squeeze out the best possible images from sensors using their own algorithms and software.

In the case of the OnePlus 3, not all touchscreens were made equal because if you might recall, back in 2016 a developer pointed out how when compared to other Android phones, the OnePlus 3’s touch latency was the “worst”. Granted it might not necessarily be very perceivable by most users, but it does impact the overall experience of the phone.

The good news is that touch latency on the OnePlus 3 has been fixed, or at least that’s according to a tweet by OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei in a recent tweet. According to Pei’s tweet, he has suggested that the touch latency for the OnePlus 3 has been addressed, and that they are now working on the alert slider.

We’re not sure if this has been addressed in the previous patch/update that was released for the phone or if it’s in reference to an upcoming one, but we are assuming the latter. Unfortunately there’s no timeline as to when the update will be released, but either way it’s good news for OnePlus 3 owners.

Google Rolls Out ‘Fact Check’ Tag To Combat Fake News

Fake news has been something of a hot topic as of late, and we’ve seen various tech companies take steps to prevent it or to combat it. Facebook has been working on various ways to combat these fake news articles, and recently launched a new tool that will go towards the fight of fake news.

Google has also been taking steps and recently the company has announced that they will now be rolling out a new feature in its search engine that helps users identify stories that are fake. This comes in the form of the “fact check” tag as you can see in the screenshot above, there articles listed in the search results will rely on services like PolitiFact or Snopes to determine if their content is real or fake.

According to Google, “For the first time, when you conduct a search on Google that returns an authoritative result containing fact checks for one or more public claims, you will see that information clearly on the search results page. The snippet will display information on the claim, who made the claim, and the fact check of that particular claim.”

However Google notes that this isn’t necessarily a guarantee that what you see listed as real may indeed be real. They say that sometimes different publishers can check the same claim but reach different conclusions, but they add, “Even though differing conclusions may be presented, we think it’s still helpful for people to understand the degree of consensus around a particular claim and have clear information on which sources agree.”

Microsoft Banning And Removing Emulators From The Windows Store

Since not many people still own a working NES or a Game Boy, this is where emulators come in handy where they allow gamers to play games from consoles that are no longer available. This has allowed many gamers to relive classics and nostalgia, although there are some that might argue that emulators are also essentially a tool for piracy.

Unfortunately for gamers who do enjoy their emulations, it seems that you will no longer be able to download these apps from the Windows Store. This is because Microsoft has updated its policy where emulators are not only banned, but those that currently exist on the Windows Store are being removed.

According to Microsoft’s policy that was recently amended, it reads, “Apps that emulate a game system are not allowed on any device family.” Now we should point out that this affects emulators downloaded from the Windows Store. Since operating systems like Windows allows users to download software from other sources, this means that gamers will just need to find a new place to get their emulators and games, which admittedly isn’t that hard to do.

While this hardly addresses issues regarding piracy, we guess at least as far as Microsoft is concerned, they have done their part in aspects of Windows that they do control.

Candy Crush’s Developer Working On A Call Of Duty Mobile Title

Call of Duty is largely seen as a title that is playable on the likes of consoles and PCs. However there have been several mobile titles released over the years, although last we checked the last version was Call of Duty: Heroes which was released back in 2014 and was more like an RTS version of the franchise.

For those who wouldn’t mind seeing more Call of Duty titles arrive for mobile, you might be interested to learn that Candy Crush’s developer King appears to be working on a version for mobile. This is based on several ob listings on King’s website in which they are clearly seeking art directors, level designers, and system designers for a mobile Call of Duty game.

At the moment it is unclear as to what kind of content this particular title will have, or what kind of gameplay we might expect. For example while there have been several FPS and third-person shooter Call of Duty titles released on mobile, like we said the latest release was a completely different take on the game.

There’s no telling when this particular title will be announced, but given that King is still actively seeking employees, perhaps it might be a while before we see anything concrete. In the meantime is anyone else excited by the idea of a new mobile Call of Duty game?

Square Enix Promises To Fully Support The Nintendo Switch

If you’re hoping to see more Square Enix titles arrive for the Nintendo Switch, it seems that this is something we can look forward to in the future. This is because in an interview with Nikkei (via Press A To Join), the company has stated that they plan to fully support the Nintendo Switch through both original titles as well as ports.

According to Square-Enix COO Yosuke Matsuda, “In addition to developing new titles, we also want to port what we can do with existing game titles more and more. Nintendo proposes various kinds of fun. There may be other companies offering amazing ways of playing with ‘Switching’ characteristics of ‘Switch’. However, since we have our way of doing things, we will make games that we are good at leveraging the functions of Switch.”

So far the company has already released a port of the JRPG I Am Setsuna for the Switch, and a new franchise dubbed Octopath Traveller is in the works. These are just some of the titles the company has planned, although safe to say that many gamers are probably looking forward to and hoping that we will eventually get some Final Fantasy titles for the platform.

There is some hope on that front because back in February, Final Fantasy’s XV director expressed his interest in the Switch and stated that the staff are “really interested” in the Switch, although the only dampener in that statement is that nothing is being worked on at the moment with regards to Final Fantasy coming onto the Switch (for now).

Nintendo’s Stock Market Performance Indicates That The Switch Is Doing Well

With the Nintendo Wii U flopping, many saw the Nintendo Switch as the company’s chance to rebound from their failures. At the start this didn’t really seem like the case as the company’s stock prices actually took a hit when the pricing of the console was revealed, suggesting that investors weren’t impressed.

However fast forward a few months and that tune has changed. According to Bloomberg Quint (via Nintendo Life), it seems that following the release of the Switch, the company’s stock has been doing well and actually outperformed the Japanese stock market by 20 points through Thursday.

This is actually very impressive as it outdid the Wii during the same time period back in 2006 which saw Nintendo outperform the Japanese stock market by 8.9 points. For a bit of context, the Wii U saw Nintendo’s stock suffer from a 30 point lag following its launch. Analysts are now predicting that at this rate, Nintendo could very well shift as many as 16 million units in the fiscal year through March 2018.

However if there is one area of concern, it would be that some analysts are worried that Nintendo won’t be able to keep up with demand, which is something that Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime had reassured customers would not happen earlier this year.

Samsung Is Apparently Done With Digital Cameras

Back in 2015 we heard the rumors that Samsung was apparently planning on closing its camera division, which suggested that the company could be thinking of exiting the consumer camera business. The company later denied that they would be exiting the market, but a report from The Investor is saying otherwise.

According to the report, it quotes a Samsung official who spoke on condition of anonymity. According to the official, “We no longer produce and sell digital cameras. But we will create a new camera product category to continue the business.” From what we can tell, it sounds like Samsung isn’t producing anymore digital cameras, but apparently the company is planning a “new camera product category” (whatever that means) for the future.

While Samsung has denied exiting the market in the past, there has been quite a lot of evidence to suggest that the company is done with digital cameras, or at least the current lineup of digital cameras. This is due to the listing of some of Samsung’s cameras as being discontinued, as well as the pulling out of several markets.

The report from The Investor quotes an anonymous industry source who said, “Samsung lost its competitiveness in the entry segment with the robust growth of smartphone cameras. Even when Japanese big names such as Canon and Nikon who have more than 100 years of history are struggling in the premium market, Samsung seems to have no option but to leave the market.” Take it with a grain of salt, but with Samsung having not made a new digital camera of a while now, we wouldn’t be surprised if the report was true.

Snipperclips review: A great Nintendo Switch co-op puzzle game

Despite my love for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and its numerous brain-teasing shrines, I have to say that I’ve never been much of a puzzle game fan. Video games, in my mind, have always been about the adventure or competition or relaxation. Working through puzzles never seemed like something I’d want to do to wind down … Continue reading
