Mom Thanks Flight Attendant Who Calmed Her Baby After 'All Hell Broke Loose'

After their daughter became fussy on a flight, a couple flying earlier this month was pleasantly surprised with a flight attendant’s kind offer.

On April 19, Whitney Poyntz was on a WestJet flight with her husband and 4-month-old daughter heading to Calgary, Canada from Palm Springs, California. The couple became stressed when their daughter began to cry on the flight and could not be calmed. That’s when a flight attendant named Ashley stepped in.

When the family first boarded, Poyntz’s daughter was asleep, but the intercom on the plane woke her up. The parents were able to soothe their daughter back to sleep, but about 30 minutes later the baby became fussy again, or as Poyntz put it, “all hell broke loose.”

“Not sure if it was gas or maybe pressure but we did not have a happy baby, unfortunately those seats aren’t made for rocking or trying to put a baby back to sleep,” she wrote in a Facebook post.

Ashley, the flight attendant, then approached the couple and asked if she could walk the baby up and down the aisle on the plane. She held the 4-month-old close until she was able to soother her. Poyntz was shocked at the kind gesture.

“I was stunned and amazed that she offered and was willing to do that,” she said.

Poyntz posted on WestJet’s Facebook page after her flight to thank the airline and Ashley for their help. In her post, she wrote that the simple offer might not seem like much, but the experience was “amazing.” She also recognized the airline’s “over and above customer service.”

“Never would I ever think someone would ever do that, volunteer to take your screaming child, but she did,” she wrote.
