How To Keep Your Food Safe At Your Weekend Cookout

There’s a reason people in the food service industry are trained and tested on safe kitchen practices. Food safety is no joke, and the risk of dangerous foodborne bacteria is very real. And when we bring food out of kitchens and into the great outdoors, where temperatures aren’t regulated, it becomes even more serious.

Dining outdoors is great in the warmer months, but it also means that our food can get warmer than is safe. If improperly stored, or cross-contamination happens, the growth of foodborne bacteria multiplies.

Let’s all stay safe this summer. Here are a list of things outlined by the FDA to keep in mind before you start planning your next outdoor meal ― and make sure that you don’t make your friends and family sick.

1. Keep cold foods cold. Pack a cooler with ice or ice packs to ensure cold food will be stored below 40 degrees. And consider packing drinks in a separate cooler to keep the opening of the cold food cooler to a minimum. Also, keep this cooler out of direct sunlight as much as possible.

2. Keep hot foods hot.  Hot food should be kept at a temperature of 140 degrees Fahrenheit or above. You can use a thermos or insulated container. Or, if you’ve just grilled food, keep it hot until ready to serve by moving it to the side of the grill rack away from the heat. Do not partially cook food unless you can finish cooking it right away ― for example. if you’re taking it from the stove to a grill outside.

3. Be wary of the “Danger Zone.” For food, the danger zone is any temperature above 40 degrees F (for cold foods) and under 140 degrees F (for hot foods). If foods are kept in the danger zone temperatures for over two hours, they should be tossed. If the outdoor temperature is above 90 degrees, foods should be tossed just after an hour.

4. Don’t cross-contaminate. You might not even realize you’re doing it, but it’s one of the surest ways to make people sick. Don’t reuse a plate or utensil that may have been in contact with raw meat, poultry or seafood. This is very important to remember when serving cooked food from a grill, but also something to keep in mind when packing a cooler. Keep raw meat, poultry and seafood securely wrapped to make sure no raw juices get in contact with the other contents of your cooler.

5. Use a thermometer. Bring a meat thermometer and use it. The cooking temperatures you’re looking for are outlined in the chart below. And, consider using an appliance thermometer for your cold cooler too ― just to make sure it’s chilling below 40 degrees.

6. Wash your hands. Just do it, even if you don’t have access to running water. You can use a jug of water and soap ― or even a moist towelette in a pinch. Just keep your hands clean.

Follow all those rules, and you can dine al fresco without a care in the world.

Tesla Model 3 0-60mph Time Said To Be 5.6 Seconds

There is a lot of excitement among electric car enthusiasts for the Tesla Model 3. It’s the first mass-market all-electric car from the company that currently sells some very pricey electric cars. Tesla has a lot riding on this car. A new report suggests that the Tesla Model 3 0-60mph time is 5.6 seconds, which means that it will provide owners with decent performance.

Tesla is yet to confirm the final specs of the Model 3 and it’s due to do that in the coming weeks. The company has previously said that Model 3’s base variant will be able to hit 60 miles-per-hour in “under 6 seconds.”

The report stems from a retail comparison chart posted at the Tesla Model 3 Owners Club forum which mentions a 0-60mph acceleration time of 5.6 seconds for the Model 3. If this is correct, Tesla’s claim of under 6 seconds holds true. The chart to mentions a 215+ mile range on a single charge and delivery times of more than a year.

It remains to be seen what the 0-60mph times will be for the high-performance variants of the Model 3. For the sake of comparison, the Tesla Model S P100D in Ludicrous Mode can hit 60mph in a breathtaking 2.3 seconds.

Granted, that with a 0-60 time of 5.6 seconds, the Tesla Model 3 isn’t going to be breaking any records, but it’s going to be very competitive with similarly priced cars in its class, both electric and fuel-powered rivals.

Oculus Rift-Exclusive Superhot VR Released For HTC Vive

Superhot VR is one of the best virtual reality games but there was a drawback. The game was exclusive to the Oculus Rift headset which meant that HTC Vive owners couldn’t play it, and the Vive is a very popular headset. The wait ends for them today as Superhot VR has finally been released for the HTC Vive via Steam.

It has almost been six months since the game was launched for the Oculus Rift. It was very well received and regarded as one of the best virtual reality games released so far. HTC Vive owners can purchase Superhot VR starting today via the Steam store.

The premise of the game is simple. The player is in a room with a few weapons around them. They have to fight off assassins that are headed to kill them. The time will only progress in the game when the player physically moves their body so they have to decide on the best course of action to take out the bad guys.

Superhot VR received a “Forever” update back in March which added several new modes to the game. The new features extended replayability so that players could find an endless stream of enemies and even fine tune the experience by racing through the levels to beat their best times or playing in the headshots-only mode.

HTC Vive owners who have been waiting for this game to arrive will like that they can finally purchase it. Superhot VR is available on the Steam store for HTC Vive. It normally costs $24.99 but it’s available for $19.99 in its launch week.

The Only App On President Trump’s iPhone Won’t Surprise You

You can imagine that there are extremely strict security protocols for any electronic device used by the President of the United States. It’s the most powerful job in the world and requires utmost secrecy where the president’s communications are concerned. President Trump does have an iPhone that he uses, and the only third-party app that’s installed on it won’t surprise you one bit.

It was first reported back in March that President Trump was using an iPhone. Previous reports suggested that he relied on a Samsung device to send out his flurry of tweets on the campaign trail.

A new report published by Axios today reveals that there’s only one app on President Trump’s iPhone and it’s Twitter. That’s not going to surprise anyone as we all know how fond he is of using the micro-blogging service to share his views and opinions with the world, even after he has been elected the country’s president.

Those views and opinions have often proven to be controversial and have ignited heated debates on many topics, but President Trump’s penchant for using Twitter to express himself hasn’t really withered even after he took office.

The report doesn’t say if Trump’s iPhone doesn’t have any other third-party apps except for Twitter of it security concerns prevent him from installing any other non-native apps on his smartphone as they have been blocked.
