First Advertiser Pulls Ads From Sean Hannity’s Fox News Show

Cars.com, the automotive classifieds site, said Wednesday that it’s pulling its advertisements from Sean Hannity’s Fox News show.

“The fact that we advertise on a particular program doesn’t mean that we agree or disagree, or support or oppose, the content. We don’t have the ability to influence content at the time we make out advertising purchase. In this case, we’ve been watching closely and have recently made the decision to pull our advertising from Hannity.”

Hannity has been in hot water for continuing to peddle a conspiracy theory linking the unsolved July slaying of Democratic National Committee staffer Seth Rich to WikiLeaks. Washington, D.C., police say they they suspect Rich was shot during a robbery attempt while walking in his neighborhood. There’s no evidence his slaying has anything to do with leaked DNC emails published by WikiLeaks, which U.S. authorities have blamed on Russian hackers.

Fox News retracted its thinly sourced story promoting the conspiracy theory on Tuesday and removed it from its website. But Hannity was still pushing the story on Twitter shortly before the network issued its statement. He later continued promoting the conspiracy on his radio show, which is not affiliated with Fox News, hours later.

“And all you in the liberal media, I am not Fox.com or Fox News.com. I retracted nothing,” he said.

The move by Cars.com to pull advertising mimics the start of a massive advertiser boycott that plagued Fox News host Bill O’Reilly, who was unceremoniously ousted from the network last month after after allegations of him sexually harassing female colleagues prompted protests and eventually led more than 50 companies to remove advertising from his show.

Racial Bias Allegations Dominate Bill Cosby Jury Selection

function onPlayerReadyVidible(e){‘undefined’!=typeof HPTrack&&HPTrack.Vid.Vidible_track(e)}!function(e,i){if(e.vdb_Player){if(‘object’==typeof commercial_video){var a=”,o=’m.fwsitesection=’+commercial_video.site_and_category;if(a+=o,commercial_video[‘package’]){var c=’&m.fwkeyvalues=sponsorship%3D’+commercial_video[‘package’];a+=c}e.setAttribute(‘vdb_params’,a)}i(e.vdb_Player)}else{var t=arguments.callee;setTimeout(function(){t(e,i)},0)}}(document.getElementById(‘vidible_1’),onPlayerReadyVidible);

A lawyer for Bill Cosby accused the prosecution on Tuesday of trying to bar black people from serving on the jury for the entertainer’s upcoming sexual assault trial in Pennsylvania.

Prosecutors struck two black women from the jury in Pittsburgh. So far, just one of the 11 jurors seated since Monday is African-American, while the rest are white.

Defense attorney Brian McMonagle said the prosecution has displayed “a systematic exclusion of African-Americans,” according to The Associated Press.

Judge Steven O’Neill disagreed with the defense, putting the issue to rest for now, though he said he’d revisit it if the defense provided statistical evidence

The prosecution said it had dismissed one black woman from the jury because she was a disgruntled ex-police detective who’d sued the city. Montgomery County Assistant District Attorney Stewart Ryan said race was not a factor in nixing her, according to NBC News.

Jury selection was scheduled to resume Wednesday to pick one remaining juror and six alternates for the trial, which is set to begin on June 5.

Cosby, 79,  is charged with aggravated indecent assault for allegedly drugging and molesting former college basketball team manager Andrea Constand in his suburban Philadelphia home in 2004. He has pleaded not guilty, and claimed that he gave her Benadryl before a consensual sexual encounter.

At least 58 women have accused the pioneering comedian of sexual misdeeds, including rape, but only Constand’s account led to criminal charges against Cosby.

Cosby previously settled a lawsuit with Constand over the incident. He said during a deposition in the civil case that he had acquired quaaludes to give to women he sexually desired.

Some parts of the deposition, including statements about quaaludes, may be presented as evidence, per an earlier decision by O’Neill.

In a victory for defense, O’Neill previously decided that only one other accuser may testify about her experience with the former television star. The district attorney’s office had sought to call up to 12 of Cosby’s accusers as witnesses.

In a recent interview, Cosby suggested that racism “could be” a factor in the accusations against him. His accusers include white and black women.

The trial will be held in Norristown, outside of Philadelphia, but the jury is being drawn from Pittsburgh and the surrounding area. The defense said it was seeking a source of prospective jurors who hadn’t been saturated by media coverage of the case.

Jurors will be sequestered for the duration of the trial, which is expected to last a few weeks.

This West Virginia Town Just Welcomed Its First Black Female Cop

Out of the 53 officers in the Beckley Police Department in West Virginia, Patrolman Charlene Diggs is the only black woman ― and the first to serve in the town’s history.

Diggs, who is 25 years old, graduated from the State Police Officer training academy in 2016. She told The Register Herald that she always wanted to work within law enforcement in an interview published online Sunday.

When Diggs set out to pursue criminal justice administration in college, she certainly didn’t intend on making Beckley history.

But, as she recently told the publication, she doesn’t see her role as the town’s first black female police officer as anything to write home about.

“I personally don’t feel like it’s a big deal,” Diggs said.

“For Beckley to be so integrated and … for there to be no other black female, ever, on the police department, I guess it is a big deal, in some aspects,” she continued. “To me, it’s not a big deal.”

Black residents make up 21% of Beckley’s population of 17,000, a number which isn’t reflected in the town’s police department. Only 9% of Beckley’s Police Department is black while the national average in 2013 was 16% for full-time cops.

At a time when there’s a growing mistrust between minority Americans and law enforcement, Diggs said she wants to help that dynamic in her new role.

“As a minority, you can’t help change the system if you don’t get involved in the system,” Diggs told the publication last April. “That was a big aspect to me, if I want to change something, I’ve got to do something about it.”

Lenovo Moto G5S Plus May Feature Metal Body And Dual Rear Camera

A recently leaked roadmap suggests that Lenovo may release as many as nine smartphones this year and the Moto G5S and G5S Plus are on that list. A purported render of the device was leaked yesterday and now more information has emerged about the handset. The report suggests that the Moto G5S Plus may feature a metal unibody and dual rear cameras.

The report claims that the Moto G5S Plus is going to feature a 5.5 inch Full HD IPS LCD display with a 64-bit octacore processor. This is reportedly going to be packaged inside a metal unibody.

Additional features are said to include a fingerprint sensor, a single front facing camera, and a dual rear camera system with dual LED flash. If these details are correct, this is going to be the first Motorola device to feature a dual camera system.

No further information about this device is available at this point in time. It’s claimed that the handset will be available in gold and gray colors. Given that some manufacturers have started to ditch the 3.5mm standard headphone jack, that doesn’t appear to be the case with the Moto G5S Plus.

Lenovo-owned Motorola hasn’t said anything about this device so far and it’s unclear when it’s going to officially announce it.

Android Pay Canada Launch Due May 31st

Android Pay has gradually been expanded to more markets across the globe over the past few months. Google has also been improving the payments service and adding support for more financial institutions. Despite being available in the United States for quite some time now, the payments service is yet to be launched in Canada. If a new report is to be believed, the Android Pay Canada launch is going to take place later this month.

MobileSyrup has heard from sources that Android Pay is finally going to be launched in Canada on May 31st. However, it’s unclear at this point in time which banks and card providers are going to be supported when the service is finally launched in the country.

Android Pay will be making its debut in Canada quite a bit later than rival Apple Pay. Apple launched its mobile payments service in Canada back in November 2015. Initially, the service only had support for American Express cards before additional cards and Canadian banks were supported in May last year.

The scribe does mention that Android Pay is going to work with “major credit and debit cards in Canada” and users will be able to rely on Android Pay to make payments “anywhere contactless is accepted.”

Game of Thrones fans have been waiting for a very long time and they will be rewarded soon. HBO is going to release Game of Thrones season 7 in July this year. The cable giant has released the official Game of Thrones season 7 trailer today, giving fans a preview of what to expect from one of its biggest shows ever.

The new official Game of Thrones season 7 trailer features actual footage from the upcoming season, so it will no doubt excite ardent fans of the series, and there are millions of them across the globe.

All this and more will be revealed in the upcoming season. Game of Thrones season 7 premieres on HBO come July 16th.
