This Mario Fidget Spinner is Animatedly Awesome

As a child of the ’80s we didn’t have fidget spinners when I was growing up. We also had to walk uphill both ways in the snow to school, but that is another story. The closest we had to a fidget spinner in my house was twirling the TV remote between your fingers until it shot across the room and bounced off the all glass console TV screen, and the punishment that followed. I’d have totally played with a fidget spinner, unlike some of my snobbier cohorts who like to complain about them but still write about them around here.

The coolest fidget spinner that I have seen yet is this animated Mario fidget spinner. When you spin this thing it looks like Mario is running and it may be the coolest thing I have seen all week. This custom is form aPyroDesign and you can buy these things on the designer’s Etsy store.

They are made from laser cut aluminum and made to order. They also make several other styles, each with a cool pattern that comes to life when they get up to speed:

You can get them for $12 each, which is a bargain and if my daughter sees this i’ll have to buy one

HP’s Cortana Speaker Requires A Windows 10 PC

Standalone smart speakers with digital assistants are all the rage these days. Amazon’s Echo lineup is far ahead of the competition while companies like Microsoft have been trying to quickly catch up to it. Even Apple is expected to unveil a Siri-powered speaker at WWDC 2017 next month. The HP Cortana speaker that Microsoft talked about recently isn’t going to be a standalone speaker, though.

Microsoft provided more details about the HP smart speaker at Computex 2017 today. The company described HP’s “digital assistant” as a small device, not unlike a puck, which requires a Windows 10 PC to function. It has to be attached to a PC or it will not be able to work, and thus won’t power Cortana.

It merits mentioning here that HP hasn’t shown off the device itself at Computex this year so it may be a while before this device is officially unveiled. Microsoft did provide a “visual representation” of this device at Computex today, though.

So now we know that HP’s Cortana speaker is not going to be like the Harman Kardon Invoke which is a standalone Cortana speaker.

From the looks of it, HP is going to sell this device as a companion to its PCs rather than a product that’s sold on its own. There’s no word as yet on when this device is going to arrive and how much it’s going to cost.

Help OnePlus Decide The Box Design For OnePlus 5

OnePlus has a habit of roping in its fans as it seeks to get the public fired up about its next flagship smartphone. It recently announced that it will bring in outstanding mobile photographers to test the OnePlus 5 before launch. The company is now asking the public for their opinion on the box design for the OnePlus 5. It’s conducting an online poll with several options that people can vote for, the option that receives the most votes will be chosen as the retail box for the company’s next flagship smartphone.

OnePlus has launched a poll on Weibo, China’s equivalent of Twitter, to ask people which of the many options that it has presented them with they like and choose one that should be the retail box of its new flagship device.

The options include a white or red box with “5” emblazoned on the front. The number can either be in 3D or faded. There’s even an option for the box in landscape orientation. There’s one option that has the words “Hello 5” on the front, perhaps this is going to be the official slogan for the new phone.

Those who want to vote will have to log into Weibo first and then cast their votes. It’s unclear if OnePlus is going to run a similar poll on Twitter or Facebook.

OnePlus is yet to confirm when it’s going to launch the OnePlus 5 officially.

Microsoft Shows Off Mixed Reality Headsets From Dell, ASUS And Lenovo

Microsoft recently revealed that HP, Dell, ASUS, Acer, and Lenovo will all be making Windows Mixed Reality headsets. The company is revealing more information about a couple of those headsets at Computex 2017. It has provided more details about the mixed reality headsets that ASUS, Dell, and Lenovo have in the pipeline.

Microsoft has confirmed that Dell is developing a white Windows Mixed Reality headset that has been designed by the company’s Alienware and XPS design teams. It will come with a weight balanced headband, cable routing, cushions that are replaceable, and a flip-up visor. Dell will release it with an affordable price tag this holiday season.a

ASUS seems to be pushing for more advanced technology with its headset. It’s going to have a polygonal 3D cover panel on the front as well as six degrees of freedom tracking. Microsoft didn’t say whether this headset will be released in 2017 so it’s quite possible that it may not arrive until next year.

Last but not the least, Lenovo is working on a Windows Mixed Reality headset which Microsoft says is going to be “incredibly affordable.” It will have built-in sensors for inside-out tracking and a conventional design. It’s also going to be available later this year.

Confirmed prices and release dates have not been revealed as yet but we should get this information at some point later this year.

ASUS ROG Zephyrus Packs Hardcore Gaming Performance In A Slim Body

ASUS has launched a new gaming laptop under its Republic of Gamers brand. The ROG Zephyrus promises to provide desktop-grade gaming and virtual reality performance in an ultra-slim profile. The company has made this possible by using cutting-edge components and innovative cooling methods for the notebook. It’s actually the thinnest ROG laptop that ASUS has ever made, and it’s also among the most powerful.

At 17.9 mm thick and 2.24 kg, the Zephyrus is a bonafide portable notebook. Despite it’s portability, the laptop can be configured with up to Intel Core i7-770HQ processor with the latest NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 graphics card. The processor provides sufficient power for gaming and virtual reality with its quad Kaby Lake cores.

The notebook has an Active Aerodynamic System (AAS) which creates a 6mm opening in the bottom panel when the laptop lid is lifted for improved cooling. The fan housings have been crafted to accelerate intake and the blades are 33 percent thinner so that they push more air with each rotation.

There’s a dedicated blower, radiator, and heatpipe for the CPU and GPU. The GPU actually has another radiator all of itself. The power circuitry that feeds power to both chips gets its own heatpipe.

Other than that, the notebook has a 15.6 inch G-Sync display with refresh rates of up to 120Hz and a 1080p resolution. It can be configured with up to 24GB of DDR4-2400 memory and NVMe SSD drives of up to 1TB. The machine also features a USB Type-C port, an HDMI 2.0 port and four USB 3.1 ports.

ASUS is yet to confirm the pricing and release date for the ROG Zephyrus.

Donald Trump Asks World Leaders To Call Him On His Cell Phone. That Can Only Mean 1 Thing.

President Donald Trump is being gleefully mocked over his latest reported request to world leaders.

On Tuesday, The Associated Press reported that Trump was encouraging his global counterparts to call him directly on his cell phone if they wanted to talk to him.

Twitter users were initially keen to point out the problems it could pose:

Many, however, used the opportunity to poke fun at Trump, suggest he was channeling Canadian rapper Drake, who sings the line “call me on my cell phone” in his 2015 track “Hotline Bling.”

Some also referenced Trump’s parody performance of the song on “Saturday Night Live” in 2015:

Others thought Trump might have been listening to too much Carly Rae Jepsen’s 2012 hit “Call Me Maybe”:

And these tweeters just imagined how the leaders would use the number:
