A lot of the Computex 2017 spotlight has been lavished upon super thin notebooks and convertibles, including not so super but still thin gaming notebooks. In that context, it’s not surprising but probably still disappointing for Android fans that ASUS didn’t even spend a second or two on stage to say it actually had some new Android tablets. If not … Continue reading
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said on Tuesday that she still has a hard time saying the words “President Donald Trump.”
Speaking at the Commonwealth Club of California in San Francisco, Pelosi stumbled over the president’s name and then simply referred to him as “President What’s-His-Name” and “the president of the United States.”
“I notice you don’t say ‘President Trump,’” interviewer KQED’s Scott Shafer said.
“It’s hard,” Pelosi replied to laughs and cheers.
Pelosi said she had been looking forward to seeing Hillary Clinton win the election last year and become “the highest-ranking woman practically in the world as president of the United States.” She called Clinton’s surprise loss a “blow for the country.”
Shafer asked Pelosi if she would prefer Trump or Mike Pence as president.
“I’d rather have President Bush,” she said with a laugh.
Pelosi also called the vice president a “sincere, authentic arch-conservative,” but said Trump was much harder to define.
“I don’t know what President Trump believes, do you?” she said, and then pointed out differences between his campaign promises and what was actually in his budget.

A GOP congressman became an instant meme after taking to the roof of his district office to photograph protesters on the street below.
Social media users drew instant comparisons between Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) and Michael Scott, the bungling boss from “The Office,” following Tuesday’s bizarre incident at his office in Vista.
There were conflicting reports as to why Issa decided to go up on the roof in the first place. The lawmaker himself said he’d “spent the morning talking with constituents gathered outside the office” before going up “to take a quick pic.”
His opponents, however, alleged that he scurried up onto the roof because he was “too afraid” to speak with the protesters below.
Constituents have been holding weekly rallies to voice concerns over President Donald Trump’s immigration and health care policies, according to NBC San Diego. Here’s a sampling of the best responses so far:

A 25-year-old hiker fell to his death while posing for a selfie at a cliff in Washington’s Palouse Falls State Park on Tuesday, local media reports.
Cade Prophet was taking the selfie with his girlfriend near the top of the waterfall when he slipped and fell into the Palouse River, according to the Tri-City Herald.
Local CBS station KREM said he fell about 40 feet then into the river, where he was swept away. His body was later found in a difficult-to-reach location.
“It’s a narrow part of the river right there,” park ranger Audra Sims told the station. “The canyon gets deeper, the current gets swifter.”
The Spokesman-Review said the trails near the falls used to have fences, but these were removed in 2015 because of complaints from hikers. Now, there are signs warning people to stay on the trails, but they are not always obeyed.
“I can’t tell them they can’t be here, it’s a park,” Capt. Rick Rochleau of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office told the local NBC stations KNDO and KNDU. “But these cliffs are dangerous and it’s not the first time we’ve been out here.”
Selfie-related incidents have been growing along with the popularity of the photos.
In 2015, nearly 50 people died while taking selfies, according to a study. That includes a tourist who died after falling down a staircase at the Taj Mahal while attempting to take a photo.
And last year, a tourist fell to his death at Machu Picchu in Peru while attempting a selfie.

Several years ago, Google announced that they would be acquiring Nik Software and in the process, acquiring the various photo-related software with it, such as Snapseed. In fact things seemed to be going well and a while back, Google even made the Nik Collection a completely free download for all users.
However it seems that Google might have had a change of heart as they have announced on the Nik Collection page that they will no longer be updating it. In a banner found on the top of the page, it reads, “The Nik Collection is free and compatible with Mac OS X 10.7 through 10.10; Windows Vista, 7, 8; and Adobe Photoshop through CC 2015. We have no plans to update the Collection or add new features over time.”
Note that Google isn’t killing off the software or removing it, but rather they will no longer be updating it which means that eventually it could lead to the apps breaking and losing compatibility, or there will be bugs that Google will no longer be addressing, and that there will no longer be any new features added to them.
It is unclear as to why Google has decided to abandon the Nik Collection, especially given how many photographers do rely on their plugins for their work, so if you do find yourself relying heavily on the Nik Collection, perhaps it’s time to start looking for an alternative.

As it stands there are a few JRPGs available for the Nintendo Switch, such as I Am Setsuna and Disgaea 5. However these titles are more like ports of games that were previously available on other platforms, so for those looking forward to a game that is developed with the Switch in mind, Square Enix has you covered.
The publisher has announced an upcoming JRPG in the form of the Lost Sphear that will be arriving on the Switch in 2018. The game is being developed by the Tokyo RPG Factory, who for those unfamiliar were also the developers behind I Am Setsuna, so if you loved their work there, you might be interested in the upcoming title.
According to the press release and description of the game, “The adventure of LOST SPHEAR begins in a remote town where a young boy, Kanata, awakens from a devastating dream to find his hometown disappearing. To stop the world from being lost forever, Kanata and his comrades set out to rebuild the world around them with the power of Memory by manifesting thoughts into matter.”
In addition to being available on the Switch, Lost Sphear will also be finding its way onto the PS4 and the PC via the PlayStation Store and Steam platforms respectively.

If you’re using Microsoft Office and you’ve recently updated your software and have been noticing that you’re getting naggy pop-ups every hour, know that you’re not alone and know that this is a bug, not a feature. According to user reports, it seems that these pop-ups are occurring extremely frequently and it can be very annoying.
We know it doesn’t take much to clear a pop-up, but imagine how disruptive it can be when you’re doing other things that you don’t want any interruptions with. For example it can pop up at the most inopportune moments, such as when you’re playing a game and it interrupts a crucial moment. Or it could be that you’re doing some online banking and the pop up gets in your way, which is what you really don’t want to happen when it comes to handling money.
However the good news is that Microsoft’s Jen Gentleman has since confirmed that they are aware of the bug and there is a fix that is finding its way through the Microsoft Office Insiders Slow ring. This means that a fix is already underway and for those not part of the Slow ring or Insiders program, you guys can expect the patch at a slightly later date.
