Twitter’s New DM Feature Protects Users From People They Don’t Follow

Twitter has an abuse problem and they know it, where trolls and bullies use the platform to target people they don’t like by tweeting at them and sending them unwanted messages. However the good news is that Twitter has made some changes to its DM feature that should help protect users from unwanted messages.

Basically users who receive messages from people that they don’t follow will no longer directly receive messages in their inbox. Instead these messages are collected and will appear as “Requests”, in which users will then have to approve these messages before they start receiving them directly.

According to Twitter, “If you have the Receive messages from anyone setting enabled, incoming messages from people you don’t follow will appear as Requests in the Messages tab. New group conversations that you’re added to by people you don’t follow will also appear in Requests. Entering the conversation, you will be asked to either Delete or Accept the message.”

If this sounds familiar, it is because Facebook also had such a feature that filtered messages from people they didn’t know or have never received messages from before. Twitter also states that deleting a message request doesn’t mean that you will stop receiving messages from that user, and that you will have to block them or mute them if that’s what you want. That being said, this new feature applies to users who have chosen to receive DMs from anyone. If you did not enable this feature then these requests do not apply to you.

US Carriers Confirm Support For Essential Phone

Andy Rubin, the co-founder of Android, recently launched his own smartphone efforts in the form of the Essential Phone. On the phone’s support page, it states that it has been designed to work across all the major carriers in the US, but does it? The core features are there, such as calls, texting, and data, but what about the rest?

In a report from The Verge, they reached out to the various carriers in the US to get statements and to see to what extent the phone is supported. Starting with Verizon, a spokesperson said, “While the phone might work on Verizon, we can’t promise the same experience and quality of service as devices that have been tested and approved for use on our network.”

As for T-Mobile, “We’re excited for Andy Rubin and his team (the device looks amazing), and welcome customers purchasing Essential to bring it to the fastest and most advanced 4G LTE network in the country through our BYOD program. We’ll have more to share closer to general availability in terms of what advanced network features might be available in Essential.”

Sprint also confirmed support for the phone and in a statement made by a spokesperson, “Essential’s debut smartphone will operate on our network. More specific information will be provided at a later date.” However as The Verge points out, none of these carriers have come right out and stated that they will be offering the phone for sale, so it’s more like if you have it, you’ll be able to use it.

That being said if you do want the Essential Phone, getting your hands on one might not be quite as easy as you think. Speaking to WIRED, executives told the publication that the company isn’t really setup to mass produce the handsets on an iPhone or Galaxy smartphone scale at the moment.

The FUSE Porta Rista Lets You Brew Coffee On The Go

You might recall that back in 2016 we talked about a certain device called FUSE that is basically a portable espresso machine that you can take with you on the go. Portable coffee makers aren’t new, but one of the differences with FUSE was that it offered users modular components to brew different styles of coffee.

However it seems that the project has undergone a revamp and the team is back with a new system, the FUSE Porta Rista (we’re assuming a play on the words “portable” and “barista”). The modular concept has been kept the same, but they have simplified its components into X, Y, and Z modules.

The X module will basically brew a shot of espresso and its pressure can be adjusted depending on your preference. The Y module is aimed at users who prefer pressed coffee, and the Z module is a combination of both a grinder and a dripper for those who prefer having dripped coffee.

If getting your hands on fresh coffee beans is difficult, not to worry as the FUSE Porta Rista will work with coffee pods such as Segafredo Zanetti, Boncafe, Nespresso, and Illy iperEspresso. There are also additional plans in the future to make more modules, such as a milk frother, a moka pot, and a flask. It’s an interesting setup and if you do like the idea of brewing a fresh cup of coffee when you’re out and about, perhaps the FUSE Porta Rista is a Kickstarter project you might want to invest in.

Amazon Japan Is Listing Standalone Modern Warfare Remastered

So while last year’s Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare wasn’t exactly the most anticipated game (when it was announced), what gamers seemed more excited about at that time was the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered that would be bundled along with the game, a title which Activision said would not be sold separately.

However last year it was suggested that maybe there was a chance that it could be sold as a standalone game, and now a report from Charlie Intel seems to hint at that possibility being a very strong one. This comes from a listing on Amazon Japan in which it lists Modern Warfare Remastered as a standalone title for the PS4 that will be available on the 20th of June.

Sure, it could be a mistake, but a mistake that happens twice? Yup, Amazon Japan not only had a page for a PS4 version of the game, but it seems that they have an Xbox One version of the game that is listed for the 20th of July, suggesting that PS4 gamers would have an exclusive and early access for a month ahead of Xbox One gamers.

Activision has yet to confirm anything, but with E3 around the corner, perhaps the company could take the opportunity to announce something then. So if you have not purchased Infinite Warfare and have no plans to do so, you might soon have another way of getting your hands on Modern Warfare Remastered.

Pokken Tournament Coming To The Nintendo Switch?

With the Nintendo Switch’s portable nature, we’re sure many gamers are wondering if they will ever see Pokemon arrive for the console. There have been some rumors in the past but nothing has been confirmed, and now it looks like perhaps it could be true, or at least to a certain degree.

According to Japanese retailer Sinobi, they have listed an arcade fighting stick for the Nintendo Switch and mentioned that the accessory is compatible with the Pokken Tournament. However it has since been noted that the post has been edited and that the reference made to Pokken Tournament has been removed.

Pokken Tournament, for those unfamiliar, is basically an arcade style fighting game with Pokemon characters, so if you’re more interested in duking it out that way versus more traditional Pokemon gameplay, Pokken Tournament is for you. The game has been released in arcades as well as for the Wii U, so really the notion of it being ported onto the Switch isn’t really that much of a stretch.

Nintendo has yet to announce or confirm anything, but the company is expected to make some announcements during E3 (separate of the event) so perhaps we will get more official details then. In the meantime is anyone else potentially excited about the idea of Pokken Tournament coming to the Switch?

Alleged Full Roster Of Marvel VS Capcom: Infinite Leaked

Last year the folks at Capcom took the wraps off their latest mashup fighting game in the form of Marvel VS Capcom: Infinite. This wouldn’t be the first time that we’ve seen such crossovers, and for the most part we had an idea of what characters we could expect based on the trailers.

Clearly that was not the extent of the character roster, but a recent post on NeoGAF by Ryce (via Gematsu) might have revealed the roster in its entirety. From Capcom’s side, we can expect characters such as Arthur, Chris, Chun-Li, Dante, Firebrand, Jedah, Monster Hunter, Morrigan, Nemesis, Ryu, Spencer, Strider Hiryu, X, and one more unknown character that is speculated to be Frank West

On Marvel’s side of the list, we have characters such as Ant-Man, Captain America, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, Gamora, Hawkeye, Hulk, Iron Man, Nova, Rocket / Groot, Spider-Man, Thanos, Thor, and Ultron. There will also be 6 additional characters planned as part of the first season’s DLC, which includes Sigma and Venom.

Take it with a grain of salt for now, but note that Ryce was the same user who posted about Marvel VS Capcom: Infinite’s existence ahead of the announcement, so perhaps there is truth to his claims, but what do you guys make of the alleged roster so far?

These days camera manufacturers are all about squeezing in the latest specs like new camera sensors, faster autofocus systems, touchscreen displays, improved EVFs, and so on. However sometimes some photographers just want a camera that can withstand the extreme outdoors, and for this market segment, Nikon is gladly obliging.

The company has recently taken the wraps off its latest compact camera offering in the form of the Nikon Coolpix W300. This isn’t the first rugged compact camera that the company has released, but it is their latest. So what are we looking at here? For starters the W300 will come with a 16MP CMOS sensor, a 3-inch LCD display, NFC, WiFi, GPS, 4K video capture, and a 5x optical zoom lens.

As for its rugged features, the W300 claims to be waterproof of up to a depth of 30m, freezeproof when it comes to temperatures up to -10C, dustproof, and shockproof from drops at heights of up to 2.4m.
