Nokia 9 Spotted On Geekbench With 8GB Of RAM

With Nokia officially making their comeback, we’re sure that many are excited to see what kind of flagship phone the company could have up their sleeves. We’ve been hearing a bit about the Nokia 9 which is rumored to be the company’s flagship for 2017, and we’ve also seen some of its alleged specs.

However a recent sighting at Geekbench might paint a slightly different story. According to the listing on Geekbench, it seems that there is a chance that the Nokia 9 could come with as much as 8GB of RAM! That’s double of what we have been hearing which is that it will pack 4GB of RAM which is pretty standard these days.

Last year we saw OnePlus try to push the envelope with 6GB of RAM but it doesn’t seem to have caught on quite as much as we had thought. Other rumored specs of the Nokia 9 include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset, 64GB of storage, a 5.3-inch QHD display, and a dual camera system that may or may not continue to use Carl Zeiss technology.

In any case we should point out that benchmarks can be faked or can sometimes be inaccurate, so take it with a grain of salt for now, but what do you guys think? Is 8GB overkill, or do you think that it probably won’t matter?

15-inch MacBook Pro Shipping Estimates Slip

WWDC is usually Apple’s platform for announcing new software and services, and while in the past Apple has used it to launch new iPhones, they haven’t really done that in quite a few years now. However this year could change as we are hearing that Apple could be launching new hardware, such as new laptops, new iPads, and so on.

In fact to support this speculation, it has been noticed that the shipping estimates for Apple’s 15-inch MacBook Pros have been slipping. According to Apple’s website and noted by MacRumors, the laptops are now said to ship between June 5-June 7 for the faster option, or June 6-8 for the free shipping option.

Given that there hasn’t been a surge in purchases, it does seem odd and it would suggest that Apple is running low on stock in anticipation that they will be replacing the existing models with newer ones. We doubt that it will be too big of a hardware refresh, so most likely we’ll be looking at newer processors and some minor improvements.

We haven’t really heard anything about the 12-inch MacBook but it is also rumored to be one of the laptops that Apple plans on refreshing. In any case maybe we’re reading too much into this so take it with a grain of salt, but with WWDC kicking off next Monday we should have the official details soon.

PlayStation 3 Production In Japan Has Officially Ended

With the PS4 and PS4 Pro available for purchase and with some analysts even predicting that we’ll be seeing a PS5 in 2018, we’re sure that there are quite a few who might have forgotten about the previous generation, the Sony PS3, which we should note has officially ended its production in Japan.

This is according to a report from Gematsu who noticed that the production had ended via Sony’s Japanese PlayStation website. The website is for the 500GB standard model, although they do note that this is the only model that was left in production in Japan prior to today’s announcement.

The PS3 was first announced back in November of 2006 and represented a huge step up in terms of power compared to the PS2, prompting competitors to follow suit with powerful consoles of their own. Sony had previously promised to support the console for at least 10 years and given that we’re already in 2017, it’s safe to say that they’ve kept their promise.

Sony has managed to sell over 80 million units of the PS3 to date. Based on the current sales figures of the PS4 which was last reported to be at 60 million, there is a good chance the PS4 could eventually catch up and overtake the PS3 before its time is up. That being said, while the PS3 is no longer in production, gamers can still play on it as we’re sure that many have built up pretty vast libraries of PS3 games.

Full-Frame Canon EOS 6D MK II Rumored To Sport Articulating LCD

If you wished that Canon would introduce articulating LCD screens to its full-frame cameras, your wish could soon be granted. In a report from Canon Rumors, they have heard from sources that the upcoming Canon EOS 6D MK II could indeed be packing an articulating LCD called the Vari-Angle LCD.

This is an LCD that Canon has used in its other cameras in the past, although it seems that this is the first time that Canon could potentially introduce it to a full-frame camera. No doubt this will be highly useful for photography as it will let photographers get down and low and at weird angles to capture what they want.

However the downside to having such a display is that there are more moving parts and exposed areas of weakness that could lead to the display being damaged, or its hinge getting  broken and the display coming off, but we guess the onus is on the photographer to be more careful with their gear.

Other rumored features include WiFi, Bluetooth, and it will apparently be taller and sport a deeper body compared to the current EOS 6D. The announcement of the camera is said to take place in July but until we hear or see it for ourselves, remember to take it with a grain of salt.

Sony China Posts Teaser For Upcoming Camera Announcement

Full-frame cameras back in the day were usually associated with DSLRs, although we have to say that Sony has done a pretty good job at bringing full-frame sensors to smaller bodies, such as mirrorless cameras and even compact ones, like the Sony RX1 series, and it seems that we can look forward to a new model.

In a teaser image that Sony posted onto their Weibo account in China (via Photo Rumors), the company appears to be teasing an upcoming camera announcement. As Photo Rumors points out, the bottom row of cameras appears to be of the full-frame variety, with one of them being a fixed lens full-frame camera.

The top row appears to be older Sony compact cameras, with a blank space at the right that teases what could be next. It has been speculated that Sony’s next announcement could come in the form of the Sony RX1R III whose specs we’ve heard about back in April, which includes 4K video recording, an improved EVF, and “better operations”.

Unfortunately the teaser doesn’t tell us when we can expect the camera to be announced, but given the teaser perhaps we won’t have to wait much longer, so do check back with us in the coming days/weeks to see if there is any official word from the company.

Sony Will Stream Their E3 Press Conference In Theaters

If you love video games, then there’s a good chance that you are anticipating E3 which is an annual conference that showcases the latest games, and sometimes there are also hardware announcements. However E3 is held in Los Angeles which means that not everyone has the chance to fly out, despite E3 now being open to the public.

However if you can’t make it to LA but would love to be able to enjoy some of the press conferences, not to worry as Sony has you covered. The company has announced on its PlayStation Blog that they will be streaming its conference this year to theaters, meaning that you can enjoy the live stream with other gamers as well.

According to Sony, “Attendees will take home an exclusive poster and #76 from the PlayStation Collectable Card series. This will be the only way to get your hands on these, so don’t miss out! Want more than just limited edition swag? We’ve got you covered — everyone will also get a digital gift basket chock-full of goodies from PlayStation Store.”

This isn’t the first time that Sony has done this and we reckon it’s a pretty good move. The tickets will be free and for those who are interested, you’ll be able to get your hands on them via Sony’s website starting from the 30th of May at 10AM PT.

ASUS ZenFone AR Will Be Coming To The US This July

While Lenovo might have been the first one on the scene to launch a Project Tango-enabled smartphone, it looks like its competitor ASUS wasn’t too far behind as the company announced earlier this year the ZenFone AR. However the question is when will it be available?

The good news is that we now have a more specific time frame to look forward to, thanks to a report from Engadget who spoke to ASUS CEO Jerry Shen. According to Shen, the ASUS ZenFone AR will be launching in Taiwan mid-June and it is expected to find its way to the US either towards the end of June or maybe early July.

This is in line with what we had previously heard which was that the phone was pegged for a release in the summer. Verizon will also be the only carrier (for now) that will be offering the phone upon its release. Unfortunately pricing still remains something of a mystery, but when asked if it could cost more than a Samsung Galaxy S8+, Shen replied that it wouldn’t.

We suppose this leaves the price open for interpretation, but basically it won’t cost more than that, but either way with a late June/early July launch date, we guess we won’t have to wait much longer for the rest of the details.

Samsung’s Gear VR Gains New Partners In UFC, X-Games, Live Nation

Watching a sporting event live in person and watching it on the TV are very different experiences, but unfortunately sometimes tickets can be too pricey, sold out, or the venue is held somewhere far away from where you are. However this is something that Samsung is hoping to address with virtual reality (VR).

The company has recently announced several new partnerships for its Gear VR platform, which includes the UFC, X-Games, and Live Nation. What this means is that users of the Gear VR will be able to enjoy select live events from those services in VR, which should help provide a more immersive experience to give off the feeling that they are there in person.

According to Younghee Lee, CMO and Executive Vice President, Samsung Electronics, “We are excited to offer Samsung Gear VR users the opportunity to experience their favorite live music and sporting events through our industry-leading VR ecosystem. Partnering with these companies to expand our VR services helps us to open up a new gateway of opportunities for fans and demonstrate our commitment to delivering experiences that make the seemingly impossible, possible.”

The first event that Gear VR users can look forward to is UFC 212: Aldo Vs. Holloway which will be kicking off on the 3rd of June. You can check out the promo in the video above.

Flying Drones Over Oil Facilities Could Land You In Jail One Day

With the commercialization of drones and with companies putting out affordable drones for the masses, new laws and regulations had to be put into place to determine how these devices are used. For examples there are several no-fly areas in which drones are not allowed, and doing so could result in a fine and/or jail time.

This typically includes airports and government facilities, but soon it seems that flying over an oil facility could be considered just as illegal, or at least that’s what the House and Senate are proposing where they want such facilities to be added to the “critical infrastructure” list. This means that anyone caught flying a drone lower than 400 feet above such structures would be considered a Class B misdemeanor which could land the drone owner up to 180 days in jail.

Other critical infrastructures part of the list include power plants, dams, and other refineries. The bill has since been passed at the Senate, although it has been pointed out that the House version, which was passed last month, is slightly different. What this means is that both bills will need to be tweaked and will need to be agreed upon by both parts of the legislature before it becomes legal.
