Top Congressman Calls For Review Of Jared Kushner’s Security Clearance

The ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee called for a review of Jared Kushner’s security clearance Sunday amid reports that the White House adviser sought secret communications with the Kremlin.

“We need to get to the bottom of these allegations,” Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) said on ABC’s “This Week.” “But I do think there ought to be a review of his security clearance to find out whether he was truthful, whether he was candid. If not then there’s no way he can maintain that kind of a clearance.”

The Democratic National Committee on Thursday called for Kushner’s clearance to be suspended until the FBI completes its investigation into collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian agents accused of meddling in the 2016 presidential election.

Kushner discussed setting up a secret and secure communications channel between Trump’s transition team and Russian diplomats to shield pre-inaugural discussion from monitoring, according to a report published Friday by The Washington Post and later confirmed by the Associated Press. The report ― the latest in a series of leaks to top newspapers suggesting collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian officials ― became a major topic of discussion on Sunday morning talk shows.

Secretary of Homeland Security John Kelly suggested Sunday such a back channel could be positive.

“Any way that you can communicate with people, particularly organizations that are maybe not particularly friendly to us, is a good thing,” he told ABC’s Martha Raddatz. “It’s not a bad thing to have multiple communication lines to any government.”

On “Fox News Sunday,” Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) stopped short of calling for Kushner’s clearance to be revoked.

“This is a rumor at this point,” the minority whip said, adding that he’ll defer to Robert Mueller, the special counsel appointed by the Justice Department to investigate Russian role in the 2016 election. “Whether it’s something that should be followed up on, I’ll trust Bob Mueller’s judgment.”

Kushner, a political neophyte and real estate mogul married to the president’s daughter Ivanka Trump, is a top adviser tasked with an unprecedented bevy of responsibilities. President Donald Trump put the 36-year-old in charge of brokering peace between Israelis and Palestinians, tackling the opioid addiction epidemic, reforming criminal justice and serving as a liaison to Mexico, China and the Muslim community. In April, CNN dubbed him the “secretary of everything.”

“I do think ultimately we’re going to want Mr. Kushner to come before our committee,” Schiff said. “I fully expect that that will happen. I’m sure that Mr. Mueller is going to want to look into these allegations as well.”

Trump Praises Gianforte's 'Big Win,' Slams White House Leaks As 'Lies'

Back from a nine-day trip abroad, President  Donald Trump quickly put his Twitter account to use ― targeting the media.

In Sunday morning tweets, Trump touted Republican Greg Gianforte’s win in a closely watched Montana House race, then went on to declare any leaks out of the White House as “fake news.”

Trump made no mention that Gianforte faces an assault charge stemming from an altercation with a reporter the day before the special election. He called Thursday’s results a “big win in Montana for Republicans” before saying the race was only a “big deal to Dems & Fake News until the Republican won.” At that point, he said, it became “poorly covered.”

Many Twitter users responded to Trump’s claim by continuing to focus on Gianforte’s response when Guardian reporter Ben Jacobs was asking him a question on Wednesday. According to audio evidence and eyewitnesses,  Gianforte lost his temper and body-slammed him to the ground, prompting the misdemeanor assault charge against the Republican.

Gianforte, in his victory speech Thursday night, apologized for his actions and said, “I should not have treated that reporter that way.”

Having news to address on other fronts that broke while he was overseas, Trump went on to raise concern about reporters’ “sources.” He tweeted that “it is very possible that those sources don’t exist but are made up by fake news writers.”

is the enemy!” he declared.

His comments follow more reports on the investigation into possible contacts both current and former members of his administration have had with Russian officials. Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law and a top White House advisor, is the latest individual to be scrutinized, following a Washington Post report that he sought to create a secret back channel to open communications with Russia.

The president has previously argued against news outlets being able to use anonymous sources, even when he, himself, has cited such sources for inaccurate claims.

He also has declared that “nobody loves [the First Amendment] better than me.”

Another Sunday tweet by Trump described British Prime Minister Theresa May as “very angry” over leaks to the U.S. media about last week’s suicide bombing at a concert in Manchester, England, that killed 22 people. Trump has ordered an investigation into the source of the leaks.

Homer Simpson joins the official Baseball Hall of Fame

Yes, you read that headline right: a fictional cartoon character has been inducted into a real-world Hall of Fame to honor historic Major League Baseball players. While it may sound silly, the honorary induction is to celebrate the 25th anniversary of The Simpsons episode where Homer played for the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant softball team, leading the team to victory … Continue reading

North Korea Tests New Anti-Aircraft System, State News Agency Says

function onPlayerReadyVidible(e){‘undefined’!=typeof HPTrack&&HPTrack.Vid.Vidible_track(e)}!function(e,i){if(e.vdb_Player){if(‘object’==typeof commercial_video){var a=”,o=’m.fwsitesection=’+commercial_video.site_and_category;if(a+=o,commercial_video[‘package’]){var c=’&m.fwkeyvalues=sponsorship%3D’+commercial_video[‘package’];a+=c}e.setAttribute(‘vdb_params’,a)}i(e.vdb_Player)}else{var t=arguments.callee;setTimeout(function(){t(e,i)},0)}}(document.getElementById(‘vidible_1’),onPlayerReadyVidible);

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has supervised the test of a new anti-aircraft weapon system and ordered its mass production and deployment throughout the country, the state news agency reported on Sunday, after weeks of defiant ballistic missile tests.

The North’s KCNA news agency did not report the exact nature of the weapon or the time of the test but said it was organized by the Academy of National Defence Science, a blacklisted agency that is believed to be developing missiles and nuclear weapons.

The North has been pushing to develop a wide range of weapon systems since early last year at an unprecedented pace including a long-range missile capable of striking the mainland United States and has in recent weeks tested its intermediate-range ballistic missile, making some technical advances.

The reclusive state rejects U.N. and unilateral sanctions by other states against its weapons program as an infringement of its right to self defense and says the program is necessary to counter U.S. aggression.

It last conducted a ballistic missile test a week ago.

The United States denies any intention to attack the North.

“Kim Jong Un … watched the test of a new type of anti-aircraft guided weapon system organized by the Academy of National Defence Science,” KCNA said on Sunday.

“This weapon system, whose operation capability has been thoroughly verified, should be mass-produced to deploy all over the country … so as to completely spoil the enemy’s wild dream to command the air, boasting of air supremacy and weapon almighty,” it said.

KCNA said Kim was accompanied by his military aides and listed the three men believed to be the top officials in the country’s rapidly accelerating missile program.

They are Ri Pyong Chol, a former top air force general; Kim Jong Sik, a veteran rocket scientist; and Jang Chang Ha, the head of the Academy of National Defence Science, a weapons development and procurement center.

North Korea said on Monday it had successfully tested what it called an intermediate-range ballistic missile that met all technical requirements and could now be mass-produced, although outside officials and experts questioned the extent of its progress.

On Tuesday, the head of the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency said that if left unchecked, North Korea is on an “inevitable” path to obtaining a nuclear-armed missile capable of striking the United States.

Appearing at a Senate hearing, Defense Intelligence Agency Director Vincent Stewart declined to offer a time estimate but Western experts believe the North still needed several years to develop such a weapon.

Cory Booker Pumps Breaks On Trump Impeachment Talk

function onPlayerReadyVidible(e){‘undefined’!=typeof HPTrack&&HPTrack.Vid.Vidible_track(e)}!function(e,i){if(e.vdb_Player){if(‘object’==typeof commercial_video){var a=”,o=’m.fwsitesection=’+commercial_video.site_and_category;if(a+=o,commercial_video[‘package’]){var c=’&m.fwkeyvalues=sponsorship%3D’+commercial_video[‘package’];a+=c}e.setAttribute(‘vdb_params’,a)}i(e.vdb_Player)}else{var t=arguments.callee;setTimeout(function(){t(e,i)},0)}}(document.getElementById(‘vidible_1’),onPlayerReadyVidible);

Sen. Corey Booker (D-N.J.) isn’t hoping to impeach President Donald Trump anytime soon, the potential 2020 presidential candidate said Sunday.

“I’m not going to rush impeachment,” Booker said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “I think we need to deal with this in a very sobered way. This can’t be a relitigation of an election that is now past. This has to be about an objective assessment about the facts that are going on right now.”

Some Democratic lawmakers have called for opening impeachment proceedings amid continued revelations of Trump’s apparent attempts to obstruct an investigation into collusion between his campaign and Russia. Other Democrats, however, have cautioned that seriously pushing impeachment could risk ostracizing voters they need to win seats in the midterm elections.

“In focus groups in swing districts … people still very much respect the office of the presidency and don’t like the idea of Democrats jumping to any conclusions on such a serious thing,” said Meredith Kelly, communications director for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

Trump allies also believe impeachment talk motivates the president’s supporters. “All this talk of impeachment does is it makes Republicans imagine Nancy Pelosi running the House,” one close Trump ally told HuffPost’s Matt Fuller earlier this month.

Trump himself described Democratic talk of possible impeachment as “totally ridiculous” in a press conference last month.

World’s Heaviest Weight Is Heavier Than Your Mom

Yo’ momma’s so fat, the only thing that weighs more than her is the world’s heaviest weight down at the NIST. Among its many wonders, the facility houses a stack of twenty precisely calibrated 50,036.27 pound masses. The massive stack can generate a maximum force of 4.45 meganewtons, or 1 million pounds, with an uncertainty of less than 5 pounds per million.

Check out Veritasium’s video for an explanation of how the massive tower of weights was assembled, and how it’s used to calibrate gauges, which are then sent into the field to measure extreme forces:

If you’re wondering what kind of things they’d need to test these sort of forces on, just think about jumbo jets and the force their engines can push out, or the incredible power produced by rockets.

Google Makes Searching For Your Own Content Easier With ‘Personal’ Tab

Google runs a wide variety of services that many people use on a daily basis, services like Google Drive, Docs, Gmail, YouTube, Photos, to name a few. Users normally have a significant amount of data stored across these services and Google is now making it easier for them to search for their content using Google Search. It has added a new “Personal” tab to Google search for precisely this purpose.

Google Search already shows a combination of personalized and personal results to users. The new tab will enable users to quickly make all public results disappear so that they can search through all of the content that they have stored across Google’s services to find whatever it is they’re looking for.

The tab has been placed in the same location as the News, Images, and Shopping tabs. It can be found at the top of the results page behind the “More” menu. Once selected, it automatically narrows down the search query to the user’s personal content only.

They will then see results that include Gmail messages, calendar events, and more from their signed-in accounts. Those who are searching for images can dig deeper in Google Photos or immediately open an image result as and when required.

Google’s Personal tab is now live for most users on the web and mobile versions of Google Search. It remains to be seen when it will go live for the Android and iOS apps.

Chipotle Hack Compromised Customer Information

Chipotle has confirmed that a hack that left malware on its systems compromised credit card information of customers at its restaurants across the United States from March 24th to April 18th. Chipotle first said that it had been the victim of an attack back in April and it has now shared more details about the debacle. It hasn’t said how many customers have been affected by this hack.

The Chipotle hack has left customer information compromised, it includes cardholder names, card numbers, expiration dates, and internal verification codes. Chipotle says that no other information was compromised in the hack.

The company says that this attack lifted data off the magnetic strips of credit cards used in its stores across the United States. While it hasn’t said how many customers were affected by the hack, it has provided a searchable list of locations that were hit by this attack, the list even includes the dates on which each restaurant was vulnerable.

If you remember visiting a Chipotle location during the period mentioned above, you might want to check out the list and see whether the location you visited was affected by the hack.

“Because of the nature of the incident and the type of data involved, we do not know how many unique payment cards may have been involved,” a spokesperson for Chipotle said.

The company says that it has resolved the issue to prevent something like this from recurring.
