Drone Gets Shot Down by Confetti Cannon

Check out this short video that Arize Nwosu posted of a camera drone heading towards the stage at a music festival, then taking a nosedive. How the drone crashed is what is fun and interesting here. It was hit by the blast of a confetti cannon.

Before you hit play on the Instagram video below, be sure to keep your volume in check. The clip is quite loud.

Drone Down!!

A post shared by Arize Nwosu (@rizonline) on Dec 5, 2015 at 11:43am PST

Now we know how to down these drones whenever they take over the world. Simple solution. Stock up on confetti cannons people. They may be our only hope. Confetti is obviously the natural enemy of drones everywhere. That drone went straight down. Crashed and presumably burned. It kinda looks like Spider-Man shot his webs at it.

Go Spidey! Kill those drones. Save us all.

Bezel-less Sony Flagship Rumored For IFA 2017

It is no secret that when it comes to smartphones, Sony’s presence in the market these days isn’t what it used to be, but that’s hardly surprising given that Sony has decided to reduce focus on quite a few markets, instead choosing to focus on its home market of Japan. However despite their reduced presence, the company could have something interesting up their sleeves.

In a recent rumor posted onto Weibo (via PhoneArena), word on the street has it that Sony might have a bezel-less flagship smartphone in the works that they could unveil at IFA 2017 which is scheduled to take place later this year. So far Sony’s handsets for the most part have kept to the same design over the years, making minor changes here and there, but otherwise it’s still very obviously Sony.

Assuming this rumor is true, it would mark the first time in a long time that Sony could be shaking up their design philosophy. It wouldn’t really be surprising either especially when you consider that many of the competition is similarly opting to cut down on the bezels of their displays, with Apple also rumored to follow suit.

At the moment Sony’s flagship is the Xperia XZ Premium which was recently made available in the US. Whether or not this rumored new flagship will find its way stateside remains to be seen, so take it with a grain of salt for now.

It’s now easier, but more expensive, to journal on your phone

They say that the best tool, the best camera, the best notebook, etc. is the one that’s always with you. If that’s the case, then there is perhaps no better tool than the smartphone that almost never leaves your hand or your face. That’s true for most things, including keeping a journal of your day. No, we’re not talking about … Continue reading

OnePlus 5 jelly scrolling is natural, not a defect, says OnePlus

No smartphone is ever perfect, at least not for everyone and in equal measures. For some, OnePlus’s phones are near perfect, but only if you resign yourself to accept some flaws here and there. Almost every OnePlus phone seems to have a screen problem, from bleeding to touch sensitivity. It seems that the OnePlus 5 is no exception and might, … Continue reading

Our Smartphones Could Be Changing The Shape Of Our Eyes

When televisions were created, and when computer monitors were created, we were constantly warned not to sit too near as it is bad for our eyes. However with the creation of mobile devices like smartphones, it’s as if we’re carrying a television and computer in our pockets all the time, meaning that day or night, our eyes are glued to it.

We guess it’s safe to assume that this has led to more eye problems being developed over the years, but it seems that it might run deeper than that. According to a report from WIRED UK, it seems that our obsession with our smartphones could actually be changing the shape of our eyes.

This is according to ophthalmologist Andrew Bastawrous who was quoted as saying, “Many more people are becoming shortsighted than they were a decade ago. The implications of this are not just that there are more people needing glasses, but that their condition is pathological.” While Bastawrous doesn’t explicitly say our mobile devices are to blame, he doesn’t see how else this could be happening.

Bastawrous said, “The initial theory for this is that people are doing more near-plane reading activity with smartphones which is encouraging the eye to become myopic to meet that environmental need. There’s also evidence that suggests this is happening too quickly for it to be purely an environmental or genetic response.”

This Light-Powered Robot Can Be Used To Clean Solar Cells

When was the last time you heard about someone washing the roof of their home? Sure there might be some, but for the most part since none of us really look at the roofs of our homes, we don’t really bother with it. This also means that if you have solar panels installed on the top, they can start to get pretty filthy.

However scientists in the UK and the Netherlands might a solution to that and have created a robot that is powered by light. They have also designed it in such a way that when it moves, it can also be used to transport small items or even be used to clean the surfaces of solar cells, according to the team who developed it.

How the scientists created the robot was by installing a polymer material inside of a frame, with the material able to react to light. When light is shone on it, the shape of the polymer will change very quickly, thus allowing it to “crawl” like you can see in the video above. However the question is whether or not there are plans to commercialize this creation, but in the meantime you can check out the robot in action in the video above.
