NY Police Rescue Ducklings Trapped In Storm Drain

Sometimes the men and women in blue have to do whatever it takes. Last week, that included getting down and dirty to rescue 10 motherless ducklings trapped in a Queens storm drain.

Acting on a report from a concerned nature lover at the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge, police located the ducklings in a parking lot storm drain near the North Channel Bridge.

Members of the NYPD Emergency Service Unit and the U.S. Parks Police worked together to open the storm drain and rescue the tiny birds one by one, reported the New York Daily News. The last duckling reportedly took some coaxing before someone could finally grab him.

But there was one thing police couldn’t do for the little ducks: Locate their missing mother. So the gang is now being cared for by National Parks Service biologist Bill Parker.

The ducklings are in good health and are expected to live. They’ll be returned to Jamaica Bay when they’re big enough to survive on their own.

Diablo 2, Warcraft 3 Remasters Could Be In The Works

So we know that Blizzard is working on a HD remaster of StarCraft, and now it looks like Blizzard could be doing the same with some of their older franchises, such as Diablo 2 and Warcraft 3. This is according to a report from PCGamesN who spotted a couple of job listings at Blizzard that hinted at such plans.

According to one of the job listings, “Qualities that made StarCraft, Warcraft III, and Diablo II the titans of their day. Evolving operating systems, hardware, and online services have made them more difficult to be experienced by their loyal followers or reaching a new generation. We’re restoring them to glory, and we need your engineering talents, your passion, and your ability to get tough jobs done.”

The other listing reads, “Classic Games is looking for a renaissance designer to harmonize that which was, with that which will be. Warcraft, StarCraft, and Diablo await your machinations. If you have the desire to rise to that challenge, we’d love to hear from you.” Of course this by no means confirms Blizzard’s plans, but it certainly sounds like it.

Given that Blizzard is working on a StarCraft remaster, we guess it wouldn’t be a stretch to think that a remaster of older titles might be in the works as well. In any case try not to get your hopes up yet, but perhaps we could hear something at BlizzCon 2017 which will be held in November later this year.

Microsoft Exec Claims Apple Is Following In Their Footsteps

While tablets existed before the iPad, it is safe to say that it was only with the iPad that tablets truly became a popular choice amongst the consumer market, whereas in the past tablets were mostly seen as devices used by industry professionals for specific tasks. Many companies have since followed suit with their own tablets, such as Microsoft.

In a recent interview with Business Insider, Microsoft’s GM for Surface Ryan Gavin has suggested that Apple could actually be following in Microsoft’s footsteps this time, such as with the iPad Pro. According to Gavin, “Think about it, if we had been looking at [Apple] we wouldn’t have made a product like Surface Pro or Surface Book.”

He adds, “We have been learning and perfecting our products in the 2-in-1 category for years now, [but] when Surface initially launched everyone was skeptical, including them. And then they followed, and the iPad Pro is a clear example of that.” It is an interesting statement and one not hard to deny, especially given how resistant Apple was to launching devices with a stylus in the past, although all that changed with the iPad Pro and the Apple Pencil.

In any case what do you guys think? Does the iPad Pro make a clear indication that Apple is indeed now more of a “follower” than an innovator?

Travelers To The US Might Soon Be Required To Declare Their Bitcoin

As you might have heard, visitors traveling to the US are expected to share information about their social media profiles, but it seems that social media profiles might not be the only thing that they’ll have to declare because in a new proposed bill by Sen. Chuck Grassley, it seems that soon any form of crypto/digital currency you own might need to be declared as well.

Introduced on the 25th of May last month, it basically proposes that travelers to the US declare their digital currencies, such as Bitcoin. At the moment those traveling to the US will have to declare money that they bring into the country if it exceeds $10,000 in value. The idea of declaring digital currencies is that because it technically can follow the owner wherever they go, it’s almost as if they have it on hand like cash.

This is slightly different from other forms of currency or things of value which might not accompany the traveler, such as property or financial assets owned in other countries that do not follow them into the US. Exactly how they will determine if a person has digital currency remains to be seen, just like how it would be impossible to determine if people are bringing more than $10,000 into the country unless each and every person is searched.

However according to Investopedia, it has been suggested that maybe the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act could be expanded to regulate foreign cryptocurrency exchanges, or that there could be some kind of global monitoring system to watch over blockchain ledgers. The bill has yet to be passed so there is a chance that it might not, but for those who own Bitcoin or other similar currencies, it could be worth keeping an eye out for.

LG G6+ Has Been Officially Announced

According to a rumor from earlier this month, it was suggested that LG could have a variant of the LG G6 in the works. For those who are wondering about those rumors, it turns out that they were true as LG has since officially announced a new version of the LG G6 in the form of the LG G6+.

As per the rumor, it seems that the LG G6+ isn’t that much different compared to the original LG G6. For those who are unfamiliar with the rumor, it was basically suggested that storage size would be one of the main differentiating factors of the LG G6+, and it is true as the handset will now come with 128GB of storage on board.

It will also feature what LG is boasting as “premium” sound which comes in the form of a 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC and a pair of B&O Play earphones. Apart from these new features, the LG G6+ is essentially at the end of the day the same LG G6 phone that was launched earlier this year. In fact it will still pack the same Snapdragon 821 chipset, which we have a feeling many were hoping to see upgraded to a Snapdragon 835.

However if a Snapdragon 835 handset from LG is what you’re after, not to worry because we have also heard that the LG V30 could be launched ahead of schedule, and presumably that phone will be packing Qualcomm’s latest hardware, so you could wait for that instead.

OnePlus 5 Revealed In India In Ad Campaign

The OnePlus 5 is expected to be officially unveiled on the 20th of June, but it seems that over in India, the company might have already revealed the phone in an ad campaign. The handset is shown off in the campaign which runs for a pretty short 7 seconds, but at the end the phone is revealed in its entirety.

Based on the video and the reveal, it seems that the OnePlus 5 looks exactly like how we all have expected it to look like, especially from some of the leaks in the past. The ad confirms the double camera on the back, and it looks like the front has also been revealed where it looks like there is a home button of sorts and presumably where the fingerprint sensor will be placed.

The OnePlus 5 will be the company’s latest flagship for 2017. There have been some who pointed out that the design of the phone shares a lot of similarities with the iPhone 7, but the company’s co-founder has since responded by stating that it could be a very different experience.

The handset is also expected to be the most expensive phone the company has released to date. So far OnePlus handsets have been relatively affordable, but if the rumored specs of the OnePlus 5 are true, we guess its rumored price tag might be justifiable. In the meantime check out the ad above and also check back with us tomorrow for the details.
