Most Americans Think Trump's Tweets Are Hurting His Cause

Most Americans believe President Donald Trump is hurting his cause by tweeting, according to a new HuffPost/YouGov poll.

You are witnessing the single greatest WITCH HUNT in American political history – led by some very bad and conflicted people! #MAGA,” Trump wrote on Twitter Thursday, following up hours later to lob attacks against his onetime rival for the presidency, Hillary Clinton.

A 53 percent majority of the public says that Trump’s tweets generally hurt his cause, with just 14 percent believing that they help. The remainder say his tweets have no effect, or that they’re not sure. 

Even Trump’s voters aren’t entirely convinced of the benefit of his missives: While 34 percent say Trump’s tweets help his cause, 26 percent say they hurt, and 27 percent say they neither help nor hurt.

Most of the public ― 53 percent ― say they don’t feel that Trump is speaking for them with his tweets, while just 23 percent say they do.  

Trump’s aides haven’t always been on the same page as to whether or not the president’s tweets count as official statements. Press Secretary Sean Spicer said earlier this month that they were, while other advisers have argued otherwise.

“I think [Trump’s tweets] matter in the sense that it gives him a communications tool that isn’t filtered through media bias,” deputy press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said recently. “But at the same time, I think that the media obsesses over every period [and] dot.”

Those polled say, 56 percent to 44 percent, that Trump’s tweets should not be seen as official statements. His opponents take his tweets more seriously ― 62 percent of Clinton voters say the posts are official statements, while 69 percent of Trump voters say they are not.

Americans largely agree with Sanders that Trump’s tweets receive too much coverage ― 63 percent say they’ve heard a lot about Trump tweets in recent months, up from the 54 percent who said the same just before Trump was inaugurated. Half currently say the media gives those tweets too much attention.

But few are seeing Trump’s tweets in a totally unfiltered way. Just 11 percent say they usually see Trump’s posts directly on Twitter, while 65 percent generally hear about those posts through news stories discussing them.

The HuffPost/YouGov poll consisted of 1,000 completed interviews conducted June 13-14 among U.S. adults, using a sample selected from YouGov’s opt-in online panel to match the demographics and other characteristics of the adult U.S. population.

A Tearful Aisha Tyler Announces Exit From 'The Talk'

After six years, Aisha Tyler will say goodbye to “The Talk.” On Thursday, the co-host fought back tears while announcing her upcoming departure from the CBS daytime talk show.

“I have had an amazing six years with you guys,” Tyler said. “We’ve had babies and weddings, and you know good things have happened, and you know I went through the biggest breakup of my life with you. I could not have done with this without you. I’ll never be able to thank you guys enough for your friendship.” 

Tyler, 46, said a busy work schedule led to the decision to part ways with the show. It’s no wonder. Tyler appears in the CBS series “Criminal Minds,” hosts The CW’s “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” and lends her voice to the FX animated show “Archer.” Going forward, Tyler’s plate will get a bit fuller. She recently directed her first feature film and hopes to sit in the director’s chair more often down the line.

“I’m very lucky to be this busy,” she said, adding, “Coming here is such a joy that it never feels like work to me.”

Tyler will exit the show after the current season, leaving current co-hosts Julie Chen, Sharon Osbourne, Sara Gilbert and Sheryl Underwood. But she promises to come back to guest-host.

iPhone Sales Growth Expected In June Quarter


The iPhone may be one of the best selling handsets on the planet but sales have seen a decline over the past few quarters. Analysts are now predicting a return to form for Apple’s smartphone. They expect iPhone sales to return to growth in the ongoing June quarter which would be a slight increase compared to the same time a year ago.

Timothy Arcuri, an analyst at Cowen and Company, has sent a note to investors today which predicts that Apple is going to ship 41.5 million iPhone units in the current June 2017 quarter.

If his prediction is true, Apple would see a slight increase from the 40.4 million iPhones that it shipped in the same quarter last year. The analyst does caution that the sell-through of iPhones to end consumers could either be flat or slightly down due to a 4 million unit channel inventory drawdown from Apple in the same quarter last year.

Analysts on Wall Street predict that Apple will rake in $44.9 billion in revenue which would amount to $1.57 earnings per share. These figures would thus register an increase from the $42.2 billion in revenue and $1.42 earnings per share that Apple posted in the June 2016 quarter.

Meanwhile, anticipating for the iPhone 8 continues to grow as fans look forward to the 10th anniversary iPhone. It’s expected that the anticipation will play a role in the keeping sales in check as many customers would prefer to hold off their purchases until the new iPhone arrives.

LG G6 Warranty Extended By One Year


If you purchased the G6 from LG or are planning on doing so, the company wants you to know that it’s got your back. LG today announced that it’s extending the G6’s warranty by one full year. The program is called LG G6 Second Year Promise and it’s free for all existing and future LG G6 customers. The company previously provided a one year warranty for the handset as is the norm with mobile devices.

Chang Ma, president of LG MobileComm USA, confirmed today that LG is extending the G6 warranty for customers in the United States by one full year. He did point out that this isn’t an insurance program for the device and won’t act as one.

The LG G6 was not protected against accidental damage in the one year warranty that it originally came with and it’s not going to be protected against accidental damage in this extension as well. So don’t call on the company to fix your phone if the screen gets cracked when you drop the phone.

What this program does is simply extend LG’s warranty against defects from 12 months to 24 months. Ma says that LG is doing this because it recognizes that people are now using their phones for longer and are not upgrading as frequently as they did before.

Since this is being offered for free, LG G6 owners don’t have to worry about paying for the extended warranty. All they have to do is register their device on LG’s website within 90 days of purchase, or if they own the phone already, within 90 days of this program being announced.

The first 12 months of warranty will be handled by carriers while months 13 to 24 will be handled by LG directly.

Spotify Active Users Reach 140 Million Milestone


Spotify has a habit of providing us with the latest figures that show how it’s maintaining its lead in the music streaming arena. The company today announced that it has more than 140 million monthly active users in the markets where its service is available. Spotify said back in March that it had 50 million subscribers paying for its premium service, the latest figures now suggest that the free user base currently stands at over 90 million.

Even though Spotify is under increasing competition from the likes of Apple Music, it’s still comfortably ahead of the pack, given that Apple Music recently announced that it has 27 million subscribers. Spotify’s subscriber base has been growing at a healthy rate and it would no doubt like to keep that up to ensure that it’s lead isn’t threatened by its rivals.

However, it’s no secret that the world’s most popular streaming service is having to deal with financial issues. The company is pitching its increased user base to advertisers and providing them with enhanced audience insights so that they can effectively target its 140 million-strong money while generating revenue for Spotify in the process.

It’s also no secret that Spotify has been trying to go public as it seeks to avoid penalty fees from the $1 billion debt round it raised last year.

Current reports suggest that Spotify is not going to do an initial public offering, it will opt for a direct listing which would let the company allow its investors and employees to sell their shares and cash out without having to raise more money.

Xbox Game Pass Games List Will Receive 5 Additions Every Month


Microsoft announced its Xbox Game Pass service a couple of weeks back. It allows subscribers to pay a set fee per month and then download games from a library that includes some great titles. Microsoft previously said that it will expand the library to ensure that there’s always something new to play. The company has now confirmed that the Xbox Game Pass games list will receive “at least” 5 new titles every month.

Microsoft is launching Xbox Game Pass with a decent number of titles in the library, over 100, but not all of them are as great as some would have hoped. It’s promising monthly additions to ensure that subscribers remain interested in paying a monthly fee for the service.

The company’s plan for Xbox Game Pass has always been to add new titles frequently and remove some as the months roll by. It has now confirmed that at least five new games will be added to the library on the first of every month. The company has also confirmed that the current collection with which this service has been launched won’t lose any games until November this year.

Microsoft’s Dennis Ceccarelli manages the Game Pass team. He has confirmed that the “vast majority” of games in the library will actually stay in it for more than five months which means subscribers will have plenty of time to play the games before they’re removed.
