Back in May, it was reported that Instagram was testing a new feature in the form of archiving. Basically what it does is that it allows users to archive posts without actually deleting them, so maybe if you wanted to take something down temporarily and put it back later without having to rewrite and re-tag everything, this is where archiving comes in handy.
However back then the feature was undergoing testing, but that is no longer the case as Instagram appears to be rolling out the feature to the masses. “Today we’re introducing Archive, a new feature that lets you move posts you’ve previously shared into a space that’s visible only to you. Your profile is a representation of who you are and evolves with you over time. With Archive, you now have more flexibility to shape your profile while still preserving moments that matter.”
If you were to launch Instagram on your mobile device, you should be able to find the option to archive photos. Your archived posts can also be found on your profile page at the top right corner with the clock-looking icon.
If you don’t see it yet, then there’s a chance that the feature might not have rolled out to you yet, but not to worry as it should eventually find its way to you. In terms of archiving, it has been noted that when you do archive or unarchive a photo, your followers will not be notified, so you can go ahead and edit your Instagram profile and posts without everyone knowing about it.

At E3 2017, one of the changes that Microsoft announced would be coming to Minecraft would be in the form of a 4K update. The game’s developer Mojang is expected to release an update called the Super Duper Graphics Pack which will bring 4K graphics to the game, along with a ton of visual improvements.
If you’re wondering how different this will be, a report from Engadget should shed some light on it. As you can see in the screenshot above, the image in the left is how Minecraft looks at the moment. The image on the right is what the game looks like following the update. Now the update has yet to be released so what you see might not necessarily be the final look, but based on what we can tell right now it looks fantastic.
Granted Minecraft has never really been a game known for its realistic graphics, but considering that these days gamers have access to better and more powerful hardware, like the recently announced Xbox One X, we guess it makes sense for them to want to update it visually so that maybe it won’t feel quite as dated as before.
In addition to the graphics upgrade, Microsoft also announced that Minecraft will be going cross-platform, where gamers on different devices can play with each other save for the PS4. In regards to that, senior global communications manager Aubrey Norris told Engadget, “It’s not for lack of wanting to or effort on our part. We are in discussions with our partners right now. We want PlayStation and we invite Sony to bring PlayStation players onto Bedrock.”

One of the rumored features of the upcoming iPhone 8 is that it could sport facial recognition technology. This is definitely something different for Apple who has typically relied on fingerprint sensors for security purposes since the iPhone 5s, but it looks like there is now more evidence to suggest that facial recognition could be a thing.
In a report from Nikkei, Taiwanese company Largan confirmed that they will be shipping a bunch of lenses equipped with 3D sensors in the second half of 2017. For those unfamiliar, Largan is one of Apple’s suppliers for iPhone components who has supplied camera lenses for Apple’s iPhones in the past. According to the company’s CEO Adam Lin, “We will have lenses for 3-D sensing [module used in smartphone] ready to ship in the second half this year.”
Lin stopped short of naming who these components are for, but given that the iPhone is slated for the second half of 2017 and with the rumors of 3D sensors and facial recognition, it’s not that hard to put two and two together. This revelation follows an earlier report in which Apple manufacturer Wistron revealed that waterproofing and wireless charging will be features coming to iPhone 8 this year.
Unfortunately in Largan’s case, it wasn’t quite as explicit so do take it with a grain of salt for now, but if it is true, we are curious to see how Apple’s solution to facial recognition will differ from what we’ve seen so far.

One of the features of Facebook that was introduced a while back was the “Safety Check” tool. Basically during emergency situations, like a bombing or natural disaster in an area, Safety Check allows users in that area to mark themselves as “safe”. This was designed to help users let their friends and family members know that they are safe.
For the most part it does the job just fine, but Facebook has decided to upgrade its Safety Check tool with fundraising and status updates. Now users could manually update their status with their own words to provide their friends and family members with more details about what happened, but this change will make it clearer.
“To make this easier, people can now add a personal note to tell their friends more about what’s happening from within the Safety Check tool. This note will appear in the News Feed story that is automatically generated when people mark themselves safe.” The fundraising tool is also particularly interesting as it will allow users to start raising funds to help people affected.
According to Facebook, “Within Safety Check, people will be able to create or donate to a fundraiser for charitable and personal causes to help those in need. Fundraising provides a way for people who are also outside of the crisis area to offer help.” The fundraising feature is expected to roll out in the next few weeks.

Most companies try to keep their upcoming products under wraps but some things sometimes slip through the cracks. And sometimes, the companies themselves let those slip, intentionally or otherwise. We’re still not sure which of the two is the case here, but Motorola has definitely spilled the biggest bean about its upcoming flagship. In an invite for what could only … Continue reading
Given their proximity in sizes, the new iPad Pro 10.5 is more often compared to last year’s iPad Pro 9.7. But, as they say, looks can be deceiving. In tearing down the new “Goldilocks” of iPad Pros, iFixit discovered that the 10.5-inch newcomer has, in fact, more in common with the larger 12.9-inch model from late 2015 when it comes … Continue reading

It goes without saying that driving while under the influence is a very, very bad idea, which is why it is usually safer to take a cab home if you’ve had too much to drink. Also thanks to ride hailing services like Uber and Lyft being more ubiquitous, finding a ride home is not as difficult as it once was.
In fact over in Painesville, Ohio, Municipal Court Judge Michael A. Cicconetti passed down a ruling in which those who have been convicted of OVI (Operating a Vehicle Impaired) will be required to download and install apps such as Uber or Lyft. Cicconetti has been known in the past to be pretty creative with his sentencing, and this is an example of it.
According to Cicconetti, “It’s not one of those unusual sentences. There’s nothing crazy about it,” Cicconetti said. “It’s just common sense. Now that we have the technology and most people have the ability to do that, why not make it part of their sentence? If you can save one person from getting another OVI, one person from getting into an accident, one person from hurting somebody else, it makes sense.”
“It’s just common sense. It doesn’t cost anybody anything to install it and activate it, and it’s far cheaper than paying the thousands of dollars you’d have to pay for another OVI.” We have to wonder if this could eventually become a thing with other judges in the future.
