Dell Launches New 38 Inch UltraSharp Curved Monitor

There’s really no shortage of curved monitors on the market. We’ve seen several new models being launched this week from the likes of Samsung and Alienware in line with the other gaming-related announcements that have been made at E3 2017 in Los Angeles. Dell has thrown its hat in the ring as well by announcing its new 38 inch UltraSharp curved monitor.

Dell’s new UltraSharp 38 monitor, model number U3818DW, offers a WQHD 3440×1440 pixel resolution with a 21:9 aspect ratio. This provides users with tons of extra workspace compared to conventional monitors that have a 16:9 aspect ratio.

That’s not all. Dell’s new monitor also features dual 9 watt speakers. It takes its power from a single 100 watt USB Type-C cable. Unfortunately, Dell has withheld some crucial bits of information about this monitor.

It’s not known at this point in time what is the refresh rate or response time that this monitor offers. Dell is saying that this monitor will be a great choice for those who want to be more productive, but it’s not revealing those specs as yet.

What Dell has confirmed is that this isn’t going to be a cheap monitor. It’s going to sell the UltraSharp 38 for $1,499. It will be available for purchase directly from Dell come June 23rd.

How A $165 Million Painting Is Funding Criminal Justice Reform

Art collector and Museum of Modern Art President Emerita Agnes Gund recently sold a multimillion-dollar painting to benefit social justice, and she’s challenging others in the art world to follow suit.

Specifically, Gund sold Roy Lichtenstein’s 1962 “Masterpiece,” which once hung over her mantel, for a cool $165 million. Proceeds from the sale will go toward the new Art for Justice Fund (A4JF), an initiative designed to support criminal justice reform at state and local levels throughout the country, primarily through the sale of art. Gund initially donated $100 million to the Fund and hopes to raise an additional $100 million over the course of the next five years.

This is one thing I can do before I die,” Gund told The New York Times. “This is what I need to do.”

The collector added that her decision was impacted by reading Michelle Alexander’s “The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness” and watching Ava DuVernay’s documentary “13th,” both of which address the calamitous toll the prison-industrial complex takes on black communities. Gund, who has six black grandchildren, felt personally motivated to help.

The A4JF hopes to use its resources to curb mass incarceration in the United States, which imprisons more people than any other country in the world and disproportionately targets poor communities and people of color.

“With the creation of this fund, we have an opportunity to make a huge step toward real justice in our criminal justice system,” Darren Walker, president of the Ford Foundation, wrote to HuffPost in an email. “By supporting and investing in leading organizations and innovative programs, the Fund hopes to safely and sustainably reduce mass incarceration in the United States over the next five years.”

The Fund will provide financial support to existing organizations involved in social justice causes including those, as Walker wrote, “aimed at safely cutting the prison population in states with the highest rates of incarceration, and strengthening education and employment options for people leaving prison.”

It will also champion artistic initiatives that will invite artists to observe and respond to the injustices of the system and the lives affected by these injustices. These artistic initiatives, Walker hopes, will “spark empathy, and inspire others to work toward meaningful reform.”

The upper tiers of the art world seem to exist worlds away from much of the cruel realities of mass incarceration, wealth inequality and systemic racism. Gund hopes to spark a chain reaction among the art patrons in her circle, imploring them to consider art’s power not just as a visual object but as a vast source of social value.

“We are asking donors to make tax-deductible contributions or donate the proceeds from the sale of artwork,” Walker wrote, “but anyone can help spread word about the Art for Justice Fund. We all have a role to play in ending the injustice of mass incarceration and demonstrating the power of art to be a force for social change.”

So far, the plan seems to be working. As of now, 18 donors are listed on A4JF’s website. According to The New York Times, one contributor, Laurie M. Tisch, donated $500,000 after selling a painting by Max Weber.

In the months since Trump’s election, artists around the country have incorporated elements of activism into their practices through myriad approaches, working to understand the roles art can and should play in the fight for a nation that serves all of its citizens, regardless of race or socioeconomic status. Gund provides a model for collectors and patrons to get involved, as well.

Here's Why You Need Texas Trash Pie In Your Life

Check out the full Periscope footage here:

Walking into Royers Round Top Cafe feels like entering a museum of vintage Americana. But don’t be distracted by the neon lights and groovy tunes — you’re here for the pie.

Bud “the Pieman” Royer and his wife Dr. Karen have their kids taking over the business these days and they’re doing mighty fine, serving dishes like an amazing grilled shrimp BLT and over 10 different kinds of pie, including flavors like D’Ette’s strawberry rhubarb (with a granola topping that’s “to die for,” as the menu says) and Texas Trash, which is made up of everything you could ever need: chocolate chips, pretzels, coconut, graham crackers and caramel.

Getting to Round Top from any major city is inevitably a trek, so if you want to avoid driving hours for pie, you can order Royers online — the restaurant, in fact, started as a mail-order pie business.

But if you do go the mail-order route, you’ll be missing out on arguably the best part of the Royers experience: the generous hunk of Blue Bell ice cream — Texas’ signature frozen treat — that comes atop every single slice.

Gigi Hadid Wore Detachable Jeans And We Don't Know Where To Begin

Gigi Hadid isn’t immune to all the crazy denim trends circulating this season.

The 22-year-old model stepped out in all-white everything in New York City over the weekend and rocked a pair of white, detachable jeans. The $332 detachable cut-out side Y/Project jeans are available at Opening Ceremony and can also be worn just as shorts.

Hadid paired the interesting pants look with a belt, a few layered necklaces and a small purse. She also curiously wore lace-up stilettos tied around the white jeans themselves.

“These Y/Project trousers come in a 2-in-1 style with detachable straight-fit legs,” says the description of the jeans. “The high-cut shorts and legs are held together with button tabs along the front and back.”

Over the past few months, crazy denim has been popping up from designers and stores all over the internet.

There’s Vetements’ $1,700 jeans that unzip to reveal your bare bum

And Nordstrom’s $425 jeans splattered with fake mud

And we can’t forget about Topshop’s $95 “Clear Panel Mom Jeans” that Millie Bobby Brown recently rocked

What will the denim industry think of next?

Um, No One's Talking About The Trump-Themed Production Of 'Cats'

Some people are upset with New York’s Public Theater after learning that their production of “Julius Caesar” has a modern Donald Trump-themed spin, including an assassination scene. It even caused some corporate sponsors to pull support from the show.

But, as Conan points out, everyone is missing the news of another Trump-themed Broadway show that is basically doing the same thing.

Baseball Team's Father's Day Promotion Is Straight Out Of Maury Povich

function onPlayerReadyVidible(e){‘undefined’!=typeof HPTrack&&HPTrack.Vid.Vidible_track(e)}!function(e,i){if(e.vdb_Player){if(‘object’==typeof commercial_video){var a=”,o=’m.fwsitesection=’+commercial_video.site_and_category;if(a+=o,commercial_video[‘package’]){var c=’&m.fwkeyvalues=sponsorship%3D’+commercial_video[‘package’];a+=c}e.setAttribute(‘vdb_params’,a)}i(e.vdb_Player)}else{var t=arguments.callee;setTimeout(function(){t(e,i)},0)}}(document.getElementById(‘vidible_1’),onPlayerReadyVidible);

A minor league baseball team has a Father’s Day promotion that could be a hit or a miss, depending on your viewpoint.

The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp will be giving out pregnancy tests at Thursday night’s game as part of a “You Might Be The Father’s Day” event.

The team’s website promises “an evening filled with suspense, intrigue and manila envelopes”

General Manager Harold Craw said the team has several hundred pregnancy tests ready to go, but promises they will only be given out to people who request them.

“We’ll give it to them if they want one,” he told Jacksonville.com. “But at that point, it’s completely up to them. They’re on their own.”

It’s conceivable that some attendees might become fathers after Thursday’s game since the “You Might Be The Father’s Day” is being held in conjunction with “Thirsty Thursdays,” a regular event that features 24-ounce Budweisers for $2 a pop.

It should be noted that pregnancy tests can only tell if a woman is pregnant, not who the father is.

So anyone expecting to see Maury Povich-like reactions to the results may be disappointed. Here are some gifs to help ease your disappointment (you can thank us later).

The pregnancy test promotion is the latest of a long tradition of tasteless attempts used by minor league teams to get fans in the seats.

Last week, the Ogden Raptors in Ogden, Utah, got a foul reaction to a promotion called “Hourglass Appreciation Night,” designed to celebrate “gorgeous women whose curves rival those of any stud pitching prospect!” according to the Washington Post.

After public outcry, the event was canceled.

In 2015, the Orem Owlz, another Utah minor league team, was forced to cancel “Caucasian Heritage Night” after public outcry.

The proposed event was supposed to offer Wonder Bread-mayo burgers, while clips from shows like “Friends” and “Seinfeld” were shown on the scoreboard.

Hear Janet Mock Read A Passage About 'Selling A Girlfriend Experience' As A Stripper

Having become one of the most recognizable faces in both television news and queer activism, Janet Mock is a forerunner for transgender visibility. Her new memoir, Surpassing Certainty: What My Twenties Taught Me, chronicles Mock’s journey from a college student moonlighting as a stripper to an aspiring media figure battling gender conventions.

HuffPost has an exclusive clip from Mock’s Surpassing Certainty audio book, in which she recounts her experiences as a night-club dancer. “It went way deeper than mere sexuality,” she reads. “Your duty was to be amiable, available and flirtatious. … You were selling a girlfriend experience.”

Surpassing Certainty is now available.

U.S. Senate Backs Legislation To Slap New Sanctions On Russia

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The U.S. Senate voted overwhelmingly on Wednesday for new sanctions punishing Russia for meddling in the 2016 U.S. election, and to force President Donald Trump to get Congress’ approval before easing any existing sanctions.

The vote was 97 to two for the legislation, filed as an amendment to an Iran sanctions bill. It is intended to punish Russia over issues including alleged meddling in the election, annexation of Ukraine’s Crimea region and support for the government of Syria in that country’s six-year-long civil war.

The measure sets up a process for Congress to review changes in sanctions, puts into law actions previously established via presidential executive order, imposes new sanctions on Russians found guilty of human rights abuses or conducting cyber attacks.

It was introduced amid an intense focus in the U.S. capital on relations with Russia, and investigations by the Department of Justice and congressional committees of whether Russia sought to influence the 2016 U.S. elections to help elect Trump, and whether Trump associates colluded with Moscow as it sought to influence the election.

Moscow denies any such activity, which Trump has dismissed as sour grapes by the Democrats he defeated.

The Iran bill, including the Russia sanctions amendment, was expected to pass the Senate on Thursday or later on Wednesday.

To take effect, the measure would also have to pass the House of Representatives and be signed into law by Trump. If Trump objected, some of its backers said they expected enough congressional support to override a veto.

“Today the Senate has finally confronted Russia for interfering in our elections. This bipartisan amendment is the sanctions regime that the Kremlin deserves for its actions,” said Democratic Senator Jeanne Shaheen, a leader of the push for the legislation.

The only two “no” votes on the Russia bill were from Republican Senators Mike Lee and Rand Paul.
