The Xbox One X is aspirational in the purest sense of the word. It’s Microsoft’s direct response to people saying that the standard Xbox One wasn’t powerful enough in comparison to Sony’s PlayStation 4. With six teraflops of processing power and a ra…

Octopus Steals Diver’s GoPro
Posted in: Today's ChiliOctopi are very intelligent creatures, and they want to be left alone. You try to get some footage of an octopus, and they will steal your camera because they don’t care about your silly YouTube channel. True story.
Check out this video of an octopus stealing a diver’s GoPro camera off the coast of Nice, France. The creature grabbed the submerged camera and swam off with it. The diver had to catch the octopus and pull it out of the water to get it to let go. I mean, the thing has eight tentacles, so it doesn’t let go easy.
Look people, always ask permission before getting footage of an Octopus.

WhatsApp is the most popular cross-platform messaging service in the world that’s used to send billions of messages every single day. It’s available on a wide variety of platforms but the Facebook-owned service has also been reducing its presence on platforms that are no longer relevant. BlackBerry 10 and BBOS are two such platforms that WhatsApp has confirmed that it will end support for them come June 30th.
“These platforms don’t offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app’s features in the future,” is the reason that WhatsApp has provided for ending support for these platforms. It’s giving similar treatment to the Nokia S40 and Symbian S60 platforms.
WhatsApp recommends that users who will no longer be able to access the service on their BlackBerry handsets should switch their devices to one that’s at least powered by Android 2.3.3, iOS 7 or Windows Phone 8. It has also posted guides on how to transfer chat history from BlackBerry OS and BB10 to other devices via email.
The decision to discontinue support for BlackBerry was actually made at the beginning of last year. The company wanted to end support by December 2016 but based on the feedback it received from the community, it decided to extend the deadline to June 30, 2017. WhatsApp will no longer be accessible on these devices after the aforementioned date.

New Windows XP Security Patches Protect Against State-Sanctioned Cyberattacks

Microsoft ended support for Windows XP back in April 2014 so the company is not on the hook for regular security or feature updates for this iteration of Windows. However, it released what it called a “highly unusual” patch for Windows XP last month after the WannaCry malware brought down over 75,000 computers in 99 countries. Microsoft has now released new Windows XP security patches to protect computers from state-sanctioned cyberattacks.
“In reviewing the updates for this month, some vulnerabilities were identified that pose elevated risk of cyberattacks by government organizations, sometimes referred to as nation-state actors, or other copycat organizations,” the company confirmed, adding that it’s releasing these new patches for all versions of Windows including those that are outdated.
The patches are being released for Windows XP, Windows Vista, and other unsupported versions. Microsoft says it’s taking this step due to an “elevated risk” of attacks that are similar to the WannaCry attack.
Microsoft does caution that just because it has released these security patches for the outdated versions of Windows, it doesn’t mean that it’s actively supporting those iterations yet again. The patches for all Windows versions will be available via Microsoft Download Center and Windows Update.
What the company didn’t provide is an explanation about where it was tipped off from about subsequent cyberattacks that could have been state-sanctioned. It’s only saying that it has come to know of such a possibility and that it’s taking steps preemptively to ensure users remain safe online.

There is no shortage of gaming monitors in the market today. We’ve seen a couple of new models being announced this week on the sidelines of the E3 2017 gaming convention in Los Angeles. Companies like Samsung have come out with gaming monitors that look absolutely bonkers but are interesting enough to capture your fancy. LG is out with one of its own, the company has launched a new 34 inch ultrawide gaming monitor.
LG’s new 34 inch ultrawide gaming monitor bears model number 34UC89G. It touts a 2560×1080 pixel resolution display panel with NVIDIA G-Sync technology. It also has a 144Hz refresh rate.
This new gaming monitor takes the baton from LG’s 34UC79G which also had a similar 21:9 aspect ratio and the same 144Hz refresh rate. However, that monitor had support for AMD FreeSync and not NVIDIA G-Sync.
The new monitor also features a widened color gamut, several unique display modes as well as the ability to overclock the refresh rate to 166Hz. This makes the LG 34UC89G a good contender to put on your listing when you’re trying to find out which gaming monitor you should buy.
LG’s new gaming monitor is available for purchase from retailers like Newegg, Amazon, and B&H starting today with a hefty price tag of $999.

Unlike its closest competitor, Microsoft, Sony didn’t have any new hardware to present at E3, which means that it was all about the games for the PlayStation 4. There were plenty to talk about too, with headliners like Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, God of War, and Days Gone. It was an exciting show for PlayStation owners, but if you missed … Continue reading
