Duo Is Asking To Integrate With Your Phone’s Call History

Duo is Google’s new video calling app that was originally announced last year alongside Allo, Google’s new messenger platform. Duo had originally launched with only support for video calling, but a couple of months ago Google started to allow audio-only calls to be made using the app.

Now it seems that Google is looking integrate Duo more into Android as according to a report from Android Police, it seems that some users are receiving prompts from Duo asking them if they’d like to merge Duo’s call history with your phone. Basically what this means is that users will be able to see their Duo calls in their phone’s history, alongside regular calls.

However it seems that despite the prompt, the feature isn’t fully functioning yet but it seems like that is the direction that Google appears to be heading. It is possible that maybe with this, Google could soon make Duo capable of making regular phone calls as well, thus doing away with the need for separate apps.

Whether or not that happens remains to be seen, but this consolidation of information isn’t exactly new. iOS users are probably familiar with this by now where their phone’s call history includes regular calls as well as calls made by other apps, such as WhatsApp, FaceTime, Messenger, and so on.

Google Photos Suggested Sharing Begins Rolling Out

For those looking for a service to store and backup their photos, Google Photos is a pretty good free alternative if you’re not too fussed at keeping photos at super high resolutions. Now during Google I/O earlier this year, Google announced that they will be making some changes to the way things are shared on Google Photos, and it looks like they are finally here.

Announced on Google’s blog, features like suggested sharing are now available to Google Photos users. For those who missed the announcement at I/O, “Suggested sharing uses machine learning to automatically identify photos and suggest recipients, making sharing as simple as a single tap. With shared libraries, sending and receiving photos with one person is effortless—you can automatically share your full photo library or customize just what you want to share.”

There will also be a new Shared Libraries feature that basically allows an entire library to be continuously shared, as opposed to only being able to share specific photos or albums. This means that if you a family who loves sharing photos together, Shared Libraries will allow you guys to constantly add new photos and update them whenever you want.

All these new features will begin rolling out to users this week, so if you are a Google Photos user, do keep an eye out for them. They will be available on iOS and Android devices, as well as the web version of Google Photos.

iOS 11 Reveals New Charging Sound, Hints At Wireless Charging

One of the rumored and highly-anticipated features of the upcoming iPhone 8 is wireless charging. This is because for many, many years, Apple has relied on wired charging despite the fact that many of their competitors have started to include wireless charging in their devices, so it will be definitely interesting to see how Apple could implement this.

We recently got “confirmation” from an Apple supplier about the feature, but in case that wasn’t evidence enough, a video has been uploaded onto YouTube that apparently reveals a new sound your iOS device will make when it is charging. This is part of iOS 11 which is also expected to be the version of iOS that will be installed on the new iPhones.

Now you might be thinking that maybe this sound will replace the existing sound, but it doesn’t.  In fact there are two sound files, with the original being called “connect_power”, while the other is called “engage_power”. It is possible that this might not even have anything to do with charging at all, but given the name of the file it certainly doesn’t seem that way.

The reason why Apple’s rumored wireless charging is so anticipated is because it is expected that it will be different from what currently wireless charging systems offer, and that it could potentially charge the iPhone without the need for accessories like a wireless charging mat. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but what do you guys think?

iPhone 8 Could Come With 10W USB-C Wall Charger

It’s interesting that despite Apple clearly seeing that USB-C is the future in terms of ports and connectivity, and going all USB-C on their MacBook laptops, the company’s other products such as the iPhone still relies on a USB-A to Lightning connector, but apparently that will change with the iPhone 8.

According to Barclays analyst Blayne Curtis in a research note, he claims that Apple’s rumored iPhone 8 is expected to come with a new faster 10W USB-C wall charger. This means that it should allow the iPhone to charge up considerably faster than before, not to mention the USB-C connectivity probably also means we’re looking at a bundled USB-C to Lightning connector that should solve some dongle woes that newer MacBook owners are facing.

As it stands the current iPhone charger is of the 5W variety, although it is pretty common to see iPhone users use their iPad’s 12W power adapter to charge their phones which has proven in the past to be faster as well, so it remains to be seen if this new alleged USB-C wall charger will be able to perform better.

In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but we should have the official details in the coming months, assuming that Apple is keeping to schedule.

Hasbro Unveils New Mario-Themed Monopoly Board Game

Monopoly is one of those board games that even in today’s digital gaming environment is still very relevant. In fact Hasbro has been trying to keep the game as relevant for as long as possible by launching variants of it themed around video games, such as the Skyrim-themed Monopoly set that was announced last year.

Now it looks like the company is back with a new Monopoly game that is themed around Nintendo’s Mario and is called Monopoly Gamer. It will not necessarily be the Monopoly that you grew up playing as it will feature things like new gold coin currency, powerups, and also boss battles, but the good news is that at its core players will still be able to buy and trade properties as they move around the board.

The game will come bundled with four tokens based on popular Mario characters: Mario, Yoshi, Princess Peach, and Donkey Kong (which isn’t from the Mario franchise). Each character has a “Super Star” ability that can be activated when landing on special spaces on the board. There will also be powerups that come in the form of a die, such as red shells, green shells, and so on.

It is an interesting take on the Monopoly game, but whether or not players will prefer this version over the regular version remains to be seen. Alternatively it also seems that the Monopoly game will also be arriving on the Nintendo Switch as announced earlier this year, so you could always check that out if you prefer.
