Xbox One X (Scorpio) Price, Launch Date and Specs Announced

Microsoft showed up at E3 2017 armed with its latest weapon in the console gaming wars. Formerly codenamed Xbox Scorpio, Microsoft claims that the Xbox One X is the most powerful console system ever, and certainly in terms of raw specifications, it sounds like it.

The console packs some impressive technical specs, including a custom 16 nm, 8-core CPU, a GPU capable of pushing out 6 teraflops, 12 GB of GDDR5 RAM, and 1TB of hard drive space. All that power enables 4K gameplay at speeds up to 60 fps, including HDR lighting effects. The console will also support 4K UHD Blu-ray playback with HDR, along with Dolby Atmos sound.

The Xbox One X will be fully backwards-compatible with Xbox One accessories and games – and can improve their visual quality in terms of frame rates and added anisotropic filtering, while also improving load times. Even when viewing games on 1080p displays, the new console can render in 4K, then perform supersampling to improve visual quality on those displays. Going forward, it appears that most games will be released for Windows 10 and Xbox One, and with special 4K and HDR enhancements for the Xbox One X when developers want to support the system’s capabilities.

Microsoft also says the Xbox One X is the smallest Xbox ever, despite its impressive performance. Here’s a side-by-side of the Xbox One X with the current Xbox One S.

Microsoft will be releasing the Xbox One X for $499(USD) on November 7, 2017, just in time for the busy holiday shopping season. Keep an eye on Amazon’s product page for your chance to get in early on the pre-order madness.

While we don’t have a complete list of launch titles yet, some of the games slated to be available for the Xbox One X launch include Forza Motorsport 7,  PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, The Darwin Project, The Last Night, The Artful Escape, Tacoma, Aurora 44, Crackdown 3 and more.

In addition to new titles, numerous existing Xbox One titles will get Xbox One X enhancement updates, including Gears of War 4, Forza Horizon 3, Killer Instinct, Minecraft, and Halo Wars 2.

Here are a few trailers from some launch titles:

Microsoft Xbox One X Price, Specs, Release Date Confirmed

After months of endless speculation and teasers, Microsoft today announced the console that we’ve until now known as Project Scorpio. No, that’s not what it’s going to be officially called. Microsoft has confirmed during its E3 2017 press conference today that the new console is going to be called Xbox One X. It has also confirmed the price, specs, and release date of this console.

As Microsoft has previously said, the Xbox One X boasts 6 teraflops of graphics processing power. The console relies on a custom GPU engine that runs at 1172MHz, significantly faster than the 853MHz GPU engine on the Xbox One and the 911MHz engine on the PS4 Pro which only has 4.2 teraflops of GPU power.

The company also confirmed today that all existing Xbox One accessories are compatible with the Xbox One X and so are all Xbox 360 backward compatible games and all Xbox One titles. Microsoft is going to use “super sampling’ on the Xbox One X so that games look more visually appealing on 1080p TVs. Those who have a 4K TV can enjoy true 4K gaming with the Xbox One X.

The Xbox One X design is quite similar to that of the Xbox One S. There’s an HDMI-in port and the dedicated Kinect port is nowhere to be found. All that processing power requires effective cooling so the Xbox One X has a liquid-cooled vapor-chamber inside.

Microsoft points out that the Xbox One X also happens to be the “smallest Xbox ever.” The company is going to release it worldwide on November 7th.

BlackBerry KEYOne Display Separation Issue Being Addressed

You might have read recently that YouTuber JerryRigEverything put BlackBerry Mobile’s new handset, the BlackBerry KEYOne, through his stringent durability tests and found that the display comes off rather easily. Apparently, that’s because there’s not much adhesive being used to hold the display in place. BlackBerry Mobile has now sent out a statement revealing that it’s an issue being faced only by a small number of KEYOne owners and that additional steps are being considered to ensure that this doesn’t irk customers in the future.

Just to remind you, BlackBerry is no longer making smartphones itself. It has licensed its brand to TCL which is now making smartphones based on the company’s iconic brand.

To ensure the highest quality in the BlackBerry KEYone, we used strong, durable premium materials and conducted rigorous stress tests on the device throughout the product development cycle to meet the real life use standards our customers demand,” BlackBerry Mobile said in a statement, adding that the display separation issue is only being faced by a small group of users.

It further adds that teams are actively looking at additional adhesive measures that can further strength the display and ensure that there is no possibility of display separation anymore.

The company does say that customers who have faced this issue already can contact BlackBerry Mobile for a device replacement.
