Hot on the heels of Apple’s plans to reinvent its iPhone’s fingerprint reader, Qualcomm looks set to position itself at the forefront of the fingerprint sensor market. It claims that it will be one of the first, if not the first, companies to produce…
Hammacher Schlemmer has been well known to produce some rather stunning devices and put them up for sale, and this particular model is something which not everyone would have thought of. Since drones ended up being all the rage some time ago, and the selfie phenomena continues to grow as many smartphones now feature a front-facing camera that have an equal or higher megapixel count compared to the back camera. Why not merge the two together and you would end up with what is known as the $299.95 Selfie Drone?
The Selfie Drone is deemed to be an easy-to-fly camera which will enable one to share “dronies” instantly to a social network of your choice. Just how large is it? Well, it is roughly the size of a Belgian waffle, where the novice flyer will be able to enjoy a 12MP shooter with an accompanying flash just in case there are some low light conditions that need to be looked into. This Selfie Drone is more than capable of capturing Full HD video (1080p resolution) without missing a beat, and it delivers smooth operation with mechanical stabilization. The best part is, all of its intricate parts can be controlled from a smartphone.
You are now able to take a group photo with family or friends in an easier manner than ever before, and the best part is this: no longer do you need to learn how to master the selfie stick — as you have now upgraded to that of the selfie drone. The Selfie Drone is capable of taking off or landing from your hand, in addition to having a working range of 98′ which should be far enough to capture even the largest group selfies ever. IT even comes with obstacle avoidance to create a stable flight path for this flying tripod.
There is a microSD card slot to stash all of the recorded photos and videos, and it features a free iOS/Android app to work with.

SSD prices have dropped dramatically over the years ever since they were first introduced. However for the most part they are still pretty expensive compared to regular HDDs, and unless you truly need the speed and stability of an SSD, or if you have some extra money in your PC budget, you can get away without using one.
However if you would love to equip your PC with an SSD, you’ll be pleased to learn that Intel’s latest SSD (via Engadget) could be a bit more friendly on your wallet. The company has recently announced what they are calling the world’s first commercially available 64-layer, TLC, 3D NAND SSD.
We wouldn’t be so quick to call them cheap yet as the 512GB model is priced at $180, but when compared to some of the other 512GB models on the market, they are slightly cheaper. According to Intel, this is thanks to the new architecture that is used in the SSDs that will allow for them to offer up larger capacities and deliver more gigabytes per wafer.
However in terms of performance, those who require a high-performing SSD shouldn’t expect too much from the Intel SSD 545s. We are talking about 550MB/s sequential read speeds and 500MB/s sequential write speeds, which like we said might not be enough for those who need the high-performance, but should be more than capable of getting the job done for the average consumer.
There are plans to launch more storage options that scale up to 2TB, or as low as 128GB, so keep an eye out for them if this is something you’re interested in.

You would think that with all the new technology we have these days that we should be safer than ever from attacks. Sure, current security methods do a pretty good job at protecting us against more common forms of attacks, but it doesn’t mean that we should be lax when it comes to security.
If you’re a Dropbox user and you want to be in more control over your account’s security, you might be interested to learn that Dropbox has announced a new security checkup tool that helps to ensure that your account is up to date with the latest information, review third-party apps that you have previously granted permission to access your Dropbox account, review devices and browsers that are signed into your accounts, and more.
Given that sometimes we don’t give much thought when granting permission and signing into our Dropbox accounts, it’s nice to be able to once in a while checkup to see if there are any older devices and computers that are no longer in use that are still attached to your Dropbox account, and maybe remove their access/permission if needed, and this is pretty much what Dropbox is offering to its users.
If you’d like to check it out, then head on over to Dropbox’s website, sign into your account and you can start reviewing your account already.

The Xbox One X is the latest console from Microsoft and if there is one advantage the console might have over the competition, is that it will be capable of true 4K gaming, as opposed to scaling up from 1080p. Given that 4K is expected to become the new standard in resolution, you could say that purchasing the Xbox One X is almost like futureproofing your gaming.
So much so that according to DFC Intelligence analyst David Cole (via PlayStation Lifestyle), he has predicted that Microsoft could sell as many as 17 million units of the console by 2021. As it stands, the Xbox One X is expected to be released towards the end of 2017, which means that we are looking at a time frame of 3-4 years for Microsoft to potentially hit that mark or go beyond it.
To date Microsoft has yet to confirm how many units of the Xbox One they have sold, but last we heard it was estimated that they might have sold around 18 million units. This was back in 2016 which means that it has been 3 years since it was launched, so it looks like it is possible that the Xbox One X could hit that mark. However we should point out that the Xbox One X is priced higher than the competition at $499 and that could play a factor in how well it does.
It is also estimated that together with the Xbox One sales, the total number of consoles in the Xbox One family of consoles sold could reach 63 million by 2021. As for the competition, the PS4 has sold more than 60 million units, and the Nintendo Switch appears to be doing pretty well too, having recently crossed the 1 million mark in Japan alone.

Back in the day when the internet was still in its early stages, there were plenty of free email services around, but eventually users quickly settled on a handful, some of which remains popular and in use even until today. One of those services is Yahoo Mail, which unfortunately in recent times has gotten a bad rep no thanks to various security breaches.
However it seems that following Verizon’s acquisition of the company and the shakeup in terms of management, Yahoo wants people to start trusting them again and using their services, so much so that they have given Yahoo Mail a brand new UI as well as introducing a new “Pro” version of the email service that essentially replaces the previous Ad Free version with a cheaper price tag.
As you can see in the video above, the new Yahoo Mail features a much cleaner and simpler look compared to before. We have yet to try it out ourselves but early reports are claiming that it is faster compared to its previous design. TechCrunch claims that this is because of a rebuilt front-end tech stack that reduces its JavaScript and CSS footprint by as much as 50%. Security has also been improved, which is probably what most users are interested to know.
Like we said there is also the introduction of the Pro version which is priced at $34.99 a year and removes ads in the email service. There is also a mobile-only option which is priced at $9.99 a year. These new changes are now live but if for whatever reason you prefer the old look, not to worry as there is the option of switching back.

Vivo Beats Apple And Samsung To The Punch With Embedded Fingerprint Readers

According to the rumors, Apple is expected to introduce a fingerprint sensor on the iPhone 8 that could be embedded under its display. Samsung was similarly rumored to do so for the upcoming Galaxy Note 8, but we have heard that the company is still trying to work out the kinks, so much so it looks like the competition has beaten both of them to the punch.
It seems that both Apple and Samsung have been beaten in terms of an embedded fingerprint sensor by none other than Vivo, who thanks to Qualcomm’s recently announced Fingerprint Sensor technology has introduced a modified Xplay6 handset at MWC Shanghai that comes with such a sensor built into it.
The Vivo Xplay6 isn’t a new phone but for demonstration purposes, they released a modified version of the phone which Richard Lai at Engadget managed to try out at the event. It works pretty much as you would expect, where instead of placing your finger on a home button/fingerprint sensor combo, you just place your thumb/finger on part of the display where it will scan your fingerprint to authenticate you.
According to Qualcomm, they claim it will be just as speedy compared to existing solutions, but during Engadget’s hands on, it was found to be noticeably slower. It is possible that maybe the tech is still early and could still stand to be tweaked further. Vivo also told Engadget that in theory the sensor could be applied to the entire screen as opposed to just one portion, but that would increase production cost.
