For a while now, Apple’s iPhone 7 Plus has been dominating in the speed tests, beating out pretty much every phone released in 2016, and even topping the 2017’s Samsung Galaxy S8. However it seems that Apple could have finally found its match in the recently announced OnePlus 5.
In the video above uploaded by PhoneBuff, it pits both the OnePlus 5 against the iPhone 7 Plus in a speed test, and if you thought that the iPhone 7 Plus would win again, that does not appear to be the case. From what we can tell, it has largely to do with the animations used in iOS 10 which on its own is fine, but when compared to the OnePlus 5 seems to be rather sluggish.
It was actually a pretty tight race as the OnePlus 5 led the way for a while before the iPhone 7 Plus overtook it, but like we said iOS’ animations were the key to the iPhone 7 Plus’ downfall as the second round saw the OnePlus 5 lead the way and complete the speed test 7 seconds ahead of the iPhone.
It is clear that the OnePlus 5 is a powerful phone and while this speed test is hardly scientific, it does show that the 8GB of RAM and Snapdragon 835 chipset combination as well as the speedy animations did help the phone topple the king. It remains to be seen how long the OnePlus 5 will stay at the top, but for now it looks like a clear winner.

While Google might have announced Allo with a built-in AI assistant in the form of Google Assistant last year, Facebook actually had a similar idea before them. This was in the form of the Messenger AI dubbed “M” that was originally announced in 2015, and it looks like the AI has recently gained a new feature in the form of saving links.
Given that we aren’t free all the time to check out links that our friends and family members send to us, what M does is that it is smart enough to detect when a link has been sent. From there, as you can see in the screenshot above, it will then offer users the opportunity to save the link for later.
This means that M will remember those links on your behalf so that you can check it out when you have more free time, as opposed to letting the conversation continue and you eventually forgetting about it. In addition the AI assistant will now also be able to remind users that the person they’re chatting with is having their birthday so that you can send your greetings.
It will also be smart enough to pick up on conversation phrases like “call me” and give users the option of making a video or voice call. As it stands the M assistant is only available to those living in the US, but there are plans to eventually roll it out on a grander scale.

Google News Gets A Brand New Design
Posted in: Today's ChiliWe consume news for all kinds of sources, whether it be from Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, emails or messages from friends, or platforms like Google News, there are just so many places to get your news from that users are more or less spoilt for choice. So then the onus falls onto the various platforms to make their outlet more attractive to users.
Google is working towards that as they have announced that they have redesigned Google News and given it a new look. “Every day people come to Google News for a trusted view of the world. It’s there for everything from moments of political change to gripping sports events to daily local news. To make news more accessible and easier to navigate, we redesigned the desktop website with a renewed focus on facts, diverse perspectives, and more control for users.”
According to Google, some of the changes to the design of Google News includes the adoption of the card format that they claim will make it easier to browse and find related news about a story. It will also change the emphasis and focuses on publisher names and article labels, and also a customizable navigation column to the left of the website to help users jump to sections that they prefer.
The changes are already live and are making their way across the world, so if you don’t see it yet not to worry as it should eventually find its way to you. In the meantime for those who do have it, what do you guys think of the new look?

Video chatting via Facebook Messenger is hardly a new feature, but it seems that Facebook is hoping that more users will start to use it as they have announced a bunch of new features and updates to the service that is aimed to make it more fun and enticing for users, and this will come in the form of animated reactions, new filters, and so on.
According to Facebook, “Video chats with your friends and family in Messenger just got a whole lot more fun. Check out the awesome new features—like animated reactions, filters, masks and effects, and the ability to take screenshots—available for one-on-one and group video chats. You can now share your emotions with a reaction, add a filter to feel like your best self, make someone laugh with a bear mask, and even take pictures of your time together.”
With reactions it’s pretty much the same with how you would react to regular Facebook posts, except that it’s done via video chat and will look like in the screenshot above. There will also be filters so if you’re feeling moody, perhaps apply a black and white filter, or sepia, or something else. There will also be new masks added to Messenger which allows users to overlay funny images on their faces during chats.
This isn’t a new feature but like we said, Facebook is basically adding more options to the mix. In addition to all of this, Facebook has also made it easier for users to snap screenshots of their video chats via a camera button, meaning that you don’t have to fumble around for key combinations anymore.

When the Galaxy S8 was announced, one of the handset’s key features was its brand new voice assistant Bixby. Unfortunately it seems that Bixby isn’t fully complete yet as Samsung launched the phone with some key Bixby features missing, as well as support for more languages beyond Korean.
Unfortunately it seems that Samsung users will have more waiting to do because in a report from The Investor, Samsung is apparently struggling to add support for more languages to the service. An anonymous source told the publication, “Bixby’s linguistic capabilities are still unsatisfactory compared to its bigger rivals such as Amazon’s Alexa and Apple’s Siri.”
The Investor’s sources also claim that Samsung’s lack of resources, such as data and experts in foreign languages, are the reasons behind the delay as well. Back in April, Samsung’s mobile chief Koh Dong-jin had estimated that Chinese and English support could arrive in May and June respectively, but that doesn’t really seem to be the case.
Last we heard, Bixby Voice in the US is still only available to users who signed up for early access, meaning that its rollout isn’t as wide or as broad as we had hoped yet. We expect Samsung will eventually get their act together, but for now it certainly does look a little rough.
