These Samsung Galaxy phones will, may, and won’t get Android O

Although it’s not as insanely innumerable and unnameable as in ages past, Samsung still has quite a variety of smartphones in the worldwide market today. Each of the S, A, J, and C series has at least 3 models per year, and one or two other variants. That’s not counting the lone Galaxy Note every year either. With that many … Continue reading

Lexar Memory Cards Have Been Discontinued

If you’re a photographer that owns quite a few memory cards, there’s a good chance that maybe one of them could be a Lexar. Lexar is one of the more well-known memory card brands out there today, but unfortunately it seems that Lexar’s parent company, Micron, has announced that they will be discontinuing the products.

The announcement reads, “Micron Technology today announced that it is discontinuing its Lexar retail removable media storage business. The decision was made as part of the company’s ongoing efforts to focus on its increasing opportunities in higher value markets and channels. The Lexar portfolio includes memory cards, USB flash drives, readers, and storage drives for retail and OEM customers.”

It also states, “As difficult as this decision is, the company is making this adjustment in its business to ensure it continues to be well-positioned for the future.” The press release also states that Micron will be looking at opportunities to sell all or part of the Lexar business. No doubt this will be a bummer for photographers who might have enjoyed using Lexar’s products, but unfortunately that is going to be the way of things from here on out.

Micron will continue to provide support to customers during the transition, but in the meantime we guess perhaps photographers might want to start looking into other brands for future purchases.

Diablo 3’s ‘Rise Of The Necromancer’ DLC Now Available For Purchase

About a week ago, Blizzard announced and finally confirmed when we can finally expect to see the Necromancer class released for Diablo 3. The announcement at that time was for the 27th of June, and sure enough it has arrived alongside the latest patch for the game, patch version 2.6.0.

Note that unlike previous updates for the game which introduced new content for free, the Necromancer will not be a free addition to the game. In case you’re hearing about this for the first time, the Rise of the Necromancer DLC is the first paid DLC for Diablo 3. It is priced at $15 and will include the Necromancer class along with a bunch of additional in-game items.

However we should also point out that only the DLC and its contents will cost players money. Whatever else that is released as part of Patch 2.6.0 will still be free, meaning that players who don’t really see the need or want to play a new class won’t be missing out on anything that will be crucial to the game.

The Necromancer class was originally announced back at BlizzCon 2016 and is basically Blizzard bringing back the class that was introduced in Diablo 2. For the most part the Necromancer will retain the core abilities of its Diablo 2 counterpart, with some changes to its gameplay style that is in line with Diablo 3. More details about the DLC can be found on the Diablo 3 website.

Someone Just Made Super Mario For The MacBook Pro’s Touch Bar

According to Apple, the Touch Bar feature on the new MacBook Pro models is meant to act as an extension to the keyboard, as opposed to being seen as a secondary display of sorts. However it has not stopped developers from finding all sorts of ways to mess around with the feature, such as by installing Doom on it.

Granted the size of the Touch Bar clearly does not make it an ideal environment to play Doom, but how about Mario? Yup, it seems that in a post on Reddit (via BGR), Redditor PietroMess has created what seems to be Super Mario for the Touch Bar, and for those who are interested you can actually go ahead and download it.

The post reads, “Just bought the new MacBook Pro with Touch Bar and I’m pretty happy to share with you the mini “game” that I was able to build. You need to avoid the obstacles, that will be Goomba and Brick, from Super Mario Bros. The game is pretty easy and it’s pretty similar to Dino for Google Chrome when internet connection is not available.”

Note that the app is being hosted on the uploader’s Dropbox account, which as one of the comments on the post states that maybe downloading and running executable files from random places on the internet is probably not the best idea. The original poster states that they will eventually upload it onto GitHub, so maybe until then, proceed with the download at your own risk (download link is on the Reddit page).

Uber Now Lets Users Request A Ride For Loved Ones

Hailing a ride for someone else using your Uber account isn’t exactly new. Granted sometimes drivers might have a hard time locating their passengers if the person waiting for the ride does not look like the person in the photos, but it has been done before. However Uber is now making the feature more official.

According to Uber’s announcement, “We’re excited to share that we’re offering a feature so you can easily request a ride for your loved ones right from your Uber app. Now, when you set the pickup away from your current location, we’ll automatically ask whether the ride is for a family member or friend. You can then select the rider from your address book, set their destination, and request the ride on their behalf.”

Once the driver is close to reaching the pickup location, users will receive a text message that contains the driver’s details and contact information, as well as a link that will allow them to track the driver’s route. Granted this isn’t too different from what people have been doing in the past, but if you’re trying to help your parents or grandparents hail and Uber and they don’t know how, we guess at least there’s an official way of doing so now.
