Apple Rolling Out ‘My Chill Mix’ Playlist On Apple Music

When listening to music, sometimes it’s nice to be in control of the songs you listen to, especially if you know what you want. However there are times when it’s nice to be surprised and discover new tunes, which is where curated playlists come in handy, and it seems that Apple is rolling out a new playlist for its Apple Music users.

In a report from Jim Dalrymple from The Loop, Apple is pushing out a new playlist called “My Chill Mix” to Apple Music users. However the report notes that this playlist isn’t available to all users yet, but Apple is expected to roll it out to everyone in due time. As the name suggests, this playlist will feature more “chill” or mellow tunes.

However what’s interesting about this playlist is that since chill/mellow is subjective (some might prefer classical, some prefer lounge, some might like jazz), this playlist essentially chooses music from genres that you like, or at least from genres that it thinks you like presumably based on your favorites and the kind of songs you normally listen to.

This means that if you’re a rock music lover, perhaps it could pick some rock acoustic tunes, while those who like jazz might end up with songs that are of a slower tempo and less “busy”. This will no doubt come in handy when it comes to discovering new artists and diving deeper into your favorite genre, so do keep an eye out for it if you’re an Apple Music subscriber.

iOS 11 Will Make It More Obvious When Apps Access Your Location

Privacy is a huge deal which is why for some users, they prefer keeping their location data off. However some apps do require location data in order to function properly, such as mapping apps, and if you’re a little paranoid about what apps could be accessing your location in the background, iOS 11 should help to assuage some of those fears.

It has been noticed that in iOS 11, Apple is making it more obvious when an app is accessing your location in the background. As you can see in the screenshot to the right, a blue bar will now be displayed at the top of your screen that lets you know that the app is accessing your location even when it is closed. Note that this blue bar isn’t new and sometimes it does pop up when you are using Google Maps or Waze and you close the app briefly to do something else.

However in iOS 11, it is expected to show up more. As it stands how Apple depicts an app is accessing your location in with an arrow icon on the top right corner of your screen that is either hollowed out or solid. While this works we guess it isn’t quite as noticeable, but safe to say it would be pretty hard to miss this blue bar flashing across the top of your screen.

While there’s a good chance you might already know what app will use location data, it can also come in handy at detecting apps that might be trying to access your location secretly, or if an app you’re using is running ads that uses your location that you’re not aware of, so if you’re the type that really values your privacy, iOS 11 should help you make better choices when it comes to using apps and services.

Facebook Now Boasts 2 Billion Users Every Month

It is safe to say that Facebook has definitely become the standard of social networks as the company has recently confirmed that they are now hosting 2 billion users every month. This was originally announced by Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg in a post on his Facebook page confirming the figures.

Zuckerberg’s post reads, “As of this morning, the Facebook community is now officially 2 billion people! We’re making progress connecting the world, and now let’s bring the world closer together. It’s an honor to be on this journey with you.” In the comments he notes that Facebook originally hit the 1 billion mark back in October 2012, meaning that it took the company 5 years to double that figure.

According to Facebook, “This wouldn’t have happened without the millions of smaller communities and individuals who are sharing and making meaningful contributions every day. Each day, more than 175 million people share a Love reaction, and on average, over 800 million people like something on Facebook. More than 1 billion people use Groups every month.”

In celebration of this milestone, Facebook has announced that they will be sharing some personalized experiences over the coming days. One of those experiences comes in the form of a personalized video that you can check out here. Another would be in the form of thank you messages that you will receive whenever you react to a post with “Love” or wish someone a happy birthday.
