Scalpers On eBay Have Already Jacking Up The SNES Classic’s Price

Just yesterday Nintendo officially announced the SNES Classic Edition, the successor to the NES Classic Edition that was recently discontinued. The console will only be released at the end of September, but it seems that pre-orders from various retailers have already sold out and in turn, have created a rather unfortunate scalping situation.

It seems that there are some opportunists who have started to list their pre-orders on eBay for as much as £299.99, claiming that this is a “guaranteed” pre-order (the listing has since been taken down). If you’re wondering why this sounds familiar, it is because the NES Classic Edition saw a similar situation where it was similarly jacked up in price once news had hit the internet that the console would be discontinued.

Now obviously no one should buy from these resellers since it would be impossible to confirm if they really do have the pre-order. Not to mention the release is still several months away and we’re not sure if paying more than double or triple its retail price is a smart idea. Nintendo has confirmed that they will be working towards making more units available than the NES Classic Edition.

However from what we can see from the pre-orders, they might have their work cut out for them. We suggest that gamers interested in buying the console contact local retailers to see if they might be getting more stock and try your luck then.

Alleged Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Renders leaked

When Samsung officially took the wraps off the Galaxy S8, it’s safe to say that many were blown away by the design of the phone, which admittedly looks very sleek thanks to its curved edges and lack of bezels, giving the illusion that the entire phone is made up of the display only. Safe to say that based on this, many are expecting great things from the Galaxy Note 8.

The Galaxy Note 8 should be launched later this year, and for those curious about how it looks, wonder no more as the folks at 91mobiles and OnLeaks have published a series of renders that are allegedly that of the upcoming phone. From what we can tell, the Galaxy Note 8 appears to sport a slightly more boxy shape compared to the Galaxy S8.

Whether or not this is a good or bad thing will depend on your preference, but regardless it still makes for a very sleek design. The handset also seems to be packing a dual camera setup on the back, something that was missing from the Galaxy S8. For those who were hoping for an embedded fingerprint sensor, you might be disappointed as the renders show the fingerprint sensor is still on the back of the phone where the camera is located.

This is in line with leaked schematics (although showing a different design) and rumors that say that Samsung has yet to figure out how to get it to work. Safe to say you should take it with a grain of salt for now, but last we heard, Samsung could unveil the phone on the 28th of August where it could also end up being the company’s most expensive handset to date.

Volvo And NVIDIA Team Up For Self-Driving Cars

When you think of Volvo, you think of cars. When you think of NVIDIA, you probably think of gaming like in terms of GPU technology and whatnot. So what happens when you combine the two together? A gaming car? Nope, try a self-driving one because that’s exactly what Volvo, NVIDIA, and car safety supplier Autoliv have announced collectively.

Now clearly NVIDIA is a company that does more than just making GPUs, so together with Volvo and Autoliv, these companies are going to work on developing on a system for self-driving cars which will use AI for object recognition around the vehicle, anticipating threats, and being able to navigate the roads safely.

We know that Volvo has been working on self-driving cars for a while now. In fact earlier this year the company even put a real-life family into one of its self-driving cars as a test and demonstration to show how far along they’ve come. The company is currently anticipating that they will have almost fully autonomous cars for sale by 2021, although we guess this will also be largely dependent on the laws around the world and the various regulations that govern such vehicles.

Volvo is definitely not alone in their efforts as a bunch of other carmakers are also working on the technology. Heck, even Apple’s CEO Tim Cook recently confirmed that the company was working on similar technology as well, although it will be interesting to see who will be the first to the market with a fully autonomous vehicle.

Twitter For Android Now Has Automatic Night Mode

Night mode for apps isn’t exactly new, and for Twitter users, this feature actually rolled out last year. However some of you guys might have also heard that Twitter was recently testing out an automatic night mode feature where users could set a time in which the app will automatically switch to night mode.

If that is a feature you were looking forward to, you’ll be happy to learn that Twitter for Android has recently gotten an update that will bring that feature to the masses. This comes in Twitter version 7.2, so if you’re running an older version then you’ll definitely need to update your app to get the feature.

For those unfamiliar, automatic night mode lets users choose and set a time where the app will swap between its default mode to night mode. For example you could set it for sunset to turn it on, and sunrise to disable it. It’s not exactly a groundbreaking feature, but it’s one of those quality of life updates that should improve the overall user experience.

Of course ideally it would be better if mobile operating systems were to have a blanket night mode option to users, but since that doesn’t seem to be happening anytime soon then we guess this will have to do. Note that this is only for Android but we expect iOS users should get the feature soon enough. In the meantime you can download the latest version of the app from the Google Play Store.

OnePlus 5 Is Now Currently Available For Purchase

The OnePlus 5 was announced last week and during the announcement, OnePlus confirmed that the phone would be available for purchase on the 27th of June. For those who have been eagerly anticipating the handset, the wait is over as it is now the 27th of June which means that you can pop on over to OnePlus’ website and get your hands on it.

As a quick recap for those who missed the announcement, the OnePlus 5 is the latest smartphone from the company, and no, they did not skip the OnePlus 4, but rather they chose to name it the OnePlus 5 as “4” in Chinese is usually seen as a bad omen. It packs some pretty high-end specs and looks like it can compete with the best phones out there in the market today.

This includes a 5.5-inch Full HD display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset, 6GB of RAM (there is an 8GB variant too), a dual camera setup on the back, a 3,300mAh battery, a fingerprint sensor, and will come with the latest OxygenOS build which is based around Android 7.1.1 Nougat.

While the handset does appear to be packing some high-end hardware, there has been a bit of controversy as the company was found to be “cheating” the benchmark results, although the company’s execs have since weighed in on the issue and claimed that they were merely trying to show the full potential of the phone. The handset is priced at $479 for the 6GB RAM/64GB storage configuration, and $539 for the 8GB RAM/128GB storage configuration.

Google Kills Of Gchat, Users Now Forced To Use Hangouts

Earlier this year in March, Google announced that Google Talk (also known as Gchat) would be shutting down and that users will be migrated to Hangouts. This is expected to take place on the 26th of June, which was yesterday, meaning that if you did not make the transition to Hangouts yourself, you will find yourself unceremoniously swapped over.

To be fair Gchats has been around since 2005 which means that it is more than a decade old, meaning that it really doesn’t come as a surprise that Google would want users to move onto newer software and services. However at the same time the switch to Hangouts is a bit weird especially since Hangouts is now focused more on enterprise users.

Alternatively if you’d rather not use Hangouts, Google does have Allo that users can turn to for an instant messenger platform, that is unless you are an enterprise user and Hangout’s new “Meet” and “Chat” platforms are something you can see yourself and your company using in the future.

We’re not sure why Google is continuously launching new messenger platforms, and as The Verge points out, in addition to Hangouts and Allo, Google also has Duo, Android Messages, and Voice as more alternatives in case these weren’t enough.
