Here’s what CEO Pete Lau has to say about OnePlus 5 complaints

If there’s one thing that’s consistent about OnePlus, it’s that every new launch is met by no small amount of criticism. Whether it’s about invitation-only availability, faulty hardware, or price, each new OnePlus model seems unable to escape controversy. The startup’s latest and greatest is no exception, and we’re not even talking about how it looks eerily familiar. Instead, the … Continue reading

Essential phone inbound, stops by FCC

FCC sightings don’t usually reveal as much juicy details as its TENAA counterpart in China, but they do at least hint at one thing: a device is close to being launched. That is definitely the case here with Andy Rubin’s Essential PH-1 Android smartphone. Since we already know much about the device anyway, all that’s really left for drooling fans … Continue reading

Final Fantasy XV Fans Put Together A Cookbook Inspired By The Game

Food and drinks in games are seen as items players consume in order to regain health, energy, mana, stamina, and etc. Most of the time you wouldn’t pay much attention to what you’re eating as long as it gets the job done, although there are games such as Final Fantasy XV in which a lot of attention is focused on the food.

So much so that during the development of the game, its creators wanted to make sure that the food represented in the game could actually be made in real-life. Now if you love Final Fantasy XV and the attention to detail, you might be interested to learn that fans of the game have put together an unofficial cookbook of the recipes from the game called “That’s It!”, which for those unfamiliar is a line that the character Ignis shouts whenever he finds something.

The cookbook itself is free and available online so if you’d like to check it out, you can do so. It appears to be very, very organized, sports a clean layout, and the photos taken accompanying the recipes are pretty clear as well, so for a fan-made project it’s actually rather impressive, although we do have to wonder if Square Enix might have plans for their own official version, like of like what Blizzard did for the World of Warcraft cookbook that was launched last year.

Lyft Introduces Pickup Suggestions To Help Save You Time

The idea behind services like Lyft and Uber is that you can get a ride from wherever you are. However some places aren’t necessarily ideal for pickup which means that drivers might have a harder time locating their rides, or it could be congested and riders have to wait longer for their rides to arrive.

This is something that Lyft is working towards changing as they have introduced a new feature in the form of pickup suggestions. As the name and screenshot above suggests, this feature will basically suggest locations around the rider that they can go in order to be picked up, which could result in them saving time.

According to Lyft, “You’ve been there. Staring at the Lyft app as your driver circles the block, navigating one-ways or fighting traffic, to get to your pickup location. To help get you moving faster, Lyft now automatically looks for more convenient pickup spots that could be nearby. If one is found, you’ll have the option to meet your driver at the new location to save time.”

Of course for whatever reason if you’d rather just stay in place and wait for your ride, you have the option of doing so, but for those who are looking for cut down on the time they spend waiting and to make things a bit easier for drivers, this feature could come in handy. This feature is introduced in the latest version of the app, so be sure to update it if you haven’t done so already.

Vimeo Axes Plans For Their Video Subscription Service

Video services like YouTube has and still does rely on advertising as a means of generating revenue for themselves as well as for content creators. However in recent times YouTube introduced a subscription based service in the form of YouTube Red which grants access to exclusive content and removes ads for a monthly subscription fee.

This is why last year when we heard that YouTube competitor Vimeo was planning a subscription-based streaming service akin to Netflix, it didn’t really come as a surprise. After all Vimeo’s plans are pretty much in line with what the folks at other companies, such as Facebook, are working on as well. Unfortunately it seems that Vimeo’s plans have been cancelled, according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter.

In a statement provided to the publication, a Vimeo spokeswoman was quoted as saying, “Vimeo has confirmed that it has decided not to proceed in offering a subscription based original program service scheduled to begin in ’18.” The company has declined to elaborate further on why their plans were scrapped, or what this could mean for the future of the company.

That being said, we have heard that even Apple has been having some trouble getting their own TV service off the ground, so perhaps Vimeo might have run into similar problems, or it could be something else entirely, but basically if you were hoping for a new video streaming service from Vimeo, you can pretty much scratch that off your list now.

LG Rumored To Produce Flexible PCBs For Apple’s iPhone 9

Apple’s iPhone 8 isn’t even out yet but it looks like there are rumors swirling regarding Apple’s iPhone 9. In a report from the Korea Economic Daily (via AppleInsider), LG Innotek is apparently in the process of setting up production facilities for flexible printed circuit boards (PCBs) that are rumored to be used in the iPhone 9.

Mass production is rumored to begin in 2018 which means that it could either be in time for a release in 2018, or maybe 2019, depending on when the facilities are complete and production is up and running at full swing. For those unfamiliar, flexible PCBs are key to creating phones with flexible/curved displays. After all if the only part of the phone that can flex is the display and not its internal components, there really isn’t much point, right?

Apple’s iPhone 8 is rumored to sport a curved display at its edges, which based on its leaked images will result in a phone that will appear similar to the Samsung Galaxy S8, and will also give off the illusion of a bezel-less display. We’re not sure how much more curved the iPhone 9 will be, or if it will be a flexible phone.

Samsung apparently has such a device in the works that is rumored to be launched later this year, so it will be interesting to see if Apple could follow in their footsteps for 2018/2019, but either way until then you’ll probably want to take this news with a huge grain of salt.

Nintendo Updates ‘ARMS’ With Support For LAN Play

With the launch of the Nintendo Wii, the company introduce games like Wii Sports Boxing that was clearly designed to show off the console’s motion-sensing controllers. Fast forward to 2017 with the launch of the Nintendo Switch, the company has definitely stepped things up by launching ARMS, a boxing game that is considerably more complex than Wii Sports Boxing.

Once again the game has been designed to show off the console’s Joy-Con controllers and how much more range and motion-sensing it has, and it looks like Nintendo has recently issued an update for the game (via Engadget) that will introduce support for LAN play, which should help Nintendo work towards their goal of possibly making ARMS a competitive eSports title.

Basically with support for LAN play, it should help make the game more stable during multiplayer mode. Sure, gamers can play together via split screen, but we reckon during competitive play players might prefer having the entire screen to themselves. Given that local wireless connectivity isn’t exactly the most reliable, LAN support should address those concerns.

In addition, the update will introduce Arena Mode which lets up to four players to join the lobby at once, where previous it was capped at a maximum of two players. The update should already be live so fire up your Switch and download it if you haven’t done so already.
