Guy Playing Creepy Horror Game Nearly Has a Heart Attack

Twitch user JurassicJunkie was streaming the creepy survival horror game Outlast 2 the other night, and all things seemed business as usual. Right up until a cute little blonde child sneaked up on him, and he literally screamed like a little girl.

Apparently, the guy’s daughter climbed out of bed and came in to see what ole dad was up to. The result was absolutely hilarious and seems too spontaneous to have been faked, methinks.

Children can turn into little ninjas and come into a room dead silent. Typically, this happens during “relations” or right when some dude’s junk is on the screen in Game of Thrones.

HP Unveils New Pavilion All-In-One PCs

When it comes to all-in-one (AIO) desktop systems, many always refer to Apple’s iMac as being a system that is not only functional, but beautiful to look at. However it seems that perhaps HP could be ready to give Apple a run for its money as the company has taken the wraps off its new Pavilion AIO desktop PCs.

According to Kevin Frost, vice president and general manager, Consumer Personal Systems, Displays & Accessories at HP, “We listened to our customers when redesigning the HP Pavilion All-in-One to ensure we’re bringing features consumers crave, making it the perfect overall family PC.”

The new Pavilion AIO desktop PCs come in 24-inch or 27-inches, depending on your preference (and budget). They will feature Full HD edge-to-edge IPS displays as well as built-in speakers that have been custom-tuned by B&O. It also comes with a built-in webcam that can be tucked away when not in use and for those who are privacy-minded. The AIO desktops will be built from die-cast aluminum, making it a pretty durable computer.

In terms of specs, these computers can be customized to a certain degree and HP will be offering them with either 7th-generation Intel Core processors or AMD’s A12 chipsets depending on your needs. There is also the option for a discrete AMD Radeon 530 GPU if you need that extra power. The new HP Pavilions will be priced starting at $750 which is actually rather affordable, so head on over to HP’s website if you’re interested in checking it out.

Facebook Reportedly Working On Smart Speaker With 15-inch Touch Panel

With Amazon, Google, Microsoft, and Apple launching smart speakers powered by their own AI assistants, it seems that maybe Facebook is feeling a bit left out because in a report from DigiTimes (via MacRumors), the social networking giant apparently has plans to launch their own smart speakers come 2018.

However instead of being pure speakers like the Google Home or HomePod, it seems that Facebook will be apparently taking a page out of Amazon’s book by introducing a smart speaker that features a 15-inch display, which is similar to what Amazon launched with the Amazon Echo Show a couple of months ago.

The report goes on to add that Pegatron will be the one manufacturing the speakers and that it is scheduled for a release in the first quarter of 2018, and at the moment a small volume pilot production has already begun in plants in China. We’re not sure how Facebook plans on competing with the other speakers in the market today, especially since its M Assistant isn’t exactly the same as Siri, Google Assistant, or Alexa.

Also we are curious that Facebook might be interested in such a device, especially when you consider that Samsung has apparently cancelled plans for their own smart speaker, but we will have to wait and see, so until then take it with a grain of salt.

Google Maps And Search Get SOS Alerts Feature

The thing about natural disasters is that sometimes you don’t know when they will happen. Of course how this impacts you varies, such as do you live nearby? Do you have loved ones in the area? Or are you just curious and concerned in general? Regardless of your reason, Google has launched a new feature for its Maps and Search services in the form of SOS Alerts.

As you can see in the image to the right, SOS Alerts will be a new feature for Google Maps and Search, where users will be able to find out information about a natural disaster or a crisis if it happens to hit close to home. It will be featured at the top of Google’s search results page and in Maps when a user tries to look for more information, thus making it pretty obvious/prominent.

Google has worked with a number of agencies to get this feature up and running, as well as to gather information. This includes the Red Cross, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, and more. This SOS Alerts feature will be applied across Search and Maps for both the web and mobile, including the mobile web as well as for mobile apps.

Google Promises At Least 11 Daydream VR Smartphones By End 2017

Google is interested in virtual reality (VR) technology, so much so that they launched their own VR platform called Daydream. They also tried to tie this in with their smartphones and Android platform by making sure that devices were compatible. However in terms of how many Daydream compatible devices are out there, there aren’t that many to be honest.

However this is expected to change because during Alphabet’s earnings call, Google’s CEO and now Alphabet board member Sundar Pichai has revealed that the company is promising that there will be at least 11 Daydream VR smartphones by the end of the year. Exactly what phones these are remains to be seen, but presumably at least two will be Google’s 2017 Pixel smartphones.

Google’s Daydream is more akin to Samsung’s Gear VR system rather than other VR platforms like the HTC Vive or Oculus Rift. This is because it does not require users to be tethered to a computer, but rather it uses the user’s smartphone to act as the VR delivery system, together with the Daydream View headset.

Like we said Google’s interest in VR is hardly a secret and we’ve seen the company experiment with various facets of VR, including how to best deliver ads while in virtual reality.

The Latest Firefox Builds Can Handle More Than 1,500 Tabs

The more tabs you open in your browser, the more memory it will ultimately consume, especially if the tabs you open are resource-heavy, such as videos. While a computer’s hardware clearly and obviously plays a role in how many tabs can be handled, development of the browser’s software also matters as it needs to be optimized to be as memory efficient as possible.

For those of you out there who have dozens of tabs open at the same time, if you aren’t using Firefox then perhaps you should because thanks to Mozilla developer Dietrich Ayala, he put the latest Firefox builds to the test and found out that Firefox 55 and 56 have no issues handling as many as 1,691 tabs (via ZDNet).

According to his testing, he found that older builds of Firefox, such as Firefox 51 took almost 8 minutes to startup with a whopping 1,691 tabs opened. However in Firefox 55 and 56, it took a mere 15 seconds, which is still 15 seconds of waiting around, but considering the number of tabs, it’s pretty damn impressive.

Memory wise Ayala also found that the later builds of Firefox are better optimized for memory, and that with 1,691 tabs open, Firefox 55 and 56 used under 500MB of RAM. While we’re pretty sure no one will ever need to open that many tabs, basically the idea is that if you are something of a tab hoarder, Firefox will be able to handle your tabs without breaking a sweat.
