According to recent rumors, Nikon is looking to replace the Nikon D810 which was originally announced back in 2014. The rumors even suggested that Nikon would be skipping the D820, D830, and D840 and instead choosing to name the successor to the D810 as the D850, and it turns out the rumors were right.
Nikon has since officially announced on its website that they are working on the Nikon D850 DSLR. According to Nikon, “The D850 is the successor to the D810, which was highly praised by its users for offering extremely sharp and clear rendering, with rich tone characteristics. This powerful new FX-format digital SLR camera is engineered with a range of new technologies, features and performance enhancements that are a direct result of feedback from users over the years – who demand the very best from their camera equipment.”
Unfortunately apart from a lot of marketing speak, not much is known about the D850 apart from the fact that it will be of the full-frame variety. However based on previous rumors, it was suggested that the D850 could pack a 45-46MP sensor along with a tiltable LCD display, support for two memory card slots, and also use the same AF system as the Nikon D5.
Nikon did not mention when the camera would be officially announced, so we guess additional specs, pricing, and release information will have to wait.
