Nissan’s Semi-Autonomous Driving Features Being Prepared For The U.S.

We’re still a long way from fully autonomous cars but most major car manufacturers have already started offering semi-autonomous driving features with their cars. Nissan is one of those manufacturers. Its suite of semi-autonomous driving features is called ProPilot Assist and it’s already available elsewhere. The company has now confirmed that it’s preparing ProPilot Assistant for launch in the United States.

Nissan confirmed that the U.S.-optimized version of ProPilot Assist is being developed as it gears up to launch the all-new Nissan Leaf electric car by the end of this year.

ProPilot Assist is far from being a fully autonomous driving solution. Nissan points out that the existing version of ProPilot Assist is only meant to make the driver’s life easier during single-lane highway driving.

It’s going to rely on the car’s radar, camera, and sensors to help drivers stay in their lane, maintain speed, and brake if it senses that the driver up ahead has slowed down.

It’s not going to change lanes, though, as is possible with Tesla’s Autopilot system. It’s won’t be available on city streets and also won’t be able to brake in an emergency.

Drivers must have their hands on the wheel at all times for the system to work. The ProPilot Assist feature is going to be as easy to enable as cruise control and it will resume on its own when the driver changes lanes manually.

ProPilot Assist will be improved considerably in the following years as it’s due to support multi-lane highways within 2 years and city roads within 4. Nissan will also push for fully autonomous driving but that’s obviously going to take much longer.

Halo TV Series Still In Development

Microsoft announced back in 2013 that it was working on a Halo TV series. We’ve not heard much about the Halo TV series since then. You can’t be faulted for believing that perhaps Microsoft gave up on this project altogether but that’s not at all true. Microsoft has confirmed that it hasn’t halted work on the project and that the Halo TV series is still in development.

Microsoft confirmed to AR12 gaming that it never stopped developing the Halo TV series and that work is still ongoing with Steven Spielberg and Showtime as it announced almost four years ago.

Microsoft-owned 343 Industries, the studio that’s responsible for all things Halo, says that the company is taking additional time to create the Halo TV series because it wants to make sure that the final product meets fans’ expectations.

Despite confirming that the project hasn’t been canceled, Microsoft hasn’t revealed a whole lot of details about the Halo TV series. So it’s unclear at this point in time when it’s going to be ready and when it’s going to premiere.

A spokesperson for the company has said that no further details are available to share at this time, so it’s going to take a while before Microsoft is more forthcoming with the details about the Halo TV series.

Tesla Model 3 Solar Panel Roof Option Won’t Be Available

Tesla co-founder and CEO Elon Musk is known for proposing ideas that if proposed by anyone else, might be chalked up as crazy. Musk has a reputation for pushing the envelope so when he said last fall that Tesla might offer a solar panel roof option with the Model 3, many took him at his word. However, now that the Model 3 is finally being mass produced, it’s unlikely that Tesla is going to offer this option with its first mass-market electric car.

Someone pointed out to Musk last year on Twitter that his words about using in-house glass tech on the Model 3 was giving some people the impression that the company will embed solar panels in the roof. Musk replied “We will probably offer that as an option” to that.

Musk has now confirmed that Tesla has decided to shelve this idea. Speaking at the National Governors Association a few days back, he revealed that while he had Tesla engineers actively look into the feasibility of creating a roof with embedded solar panels, it wasn’t doable.

“I pushed my team. Is there some way we can do it on the car? Technically, if you have some sort of transformer-like thing that will pop out of the trunk like a hardtop convertible that ratchets solar panels over the car, and provided you are in the sun, that would be enough to generate 20 to 30 miles a day of electricity. It’s a difficult way to do it,” Musk said.

That’s not to say that Tesla might not do this at some point in the future when there’s feasibility for this idea. As far as the Model 3 is concerned, though, you won’t be able to buy one with embedded solar panels.

Official Westworld Season 2 Trailer Released

Westworld was HBO’s most watched series ever for a first season last year. It really took the world by storm when it was released in 2016. HBO revealed that it had even surpassed Game of Thrones in first-season numbers. HBO has now released the official Westworld season 2 trailer, giving fans their first glimpse of what’s yet to come.

HBO released the Westworld season 2 trailer at the San Diego Comic-Co and it picks up where we left off in the first season. There was a host uprising at the end of the previous season and they have well and truly arisen in the second season.

Some of the main characters from the previous season make an appearance in this trailer, including Bernard Lowe, Maeve, Dolores, and The Man in Black. It’s all centered around the hosts becoming self-aware and shows a glimpse of how things will progress in the show from now on.

We even get to see Dolores, played by Evan Rachel Wood, aiming a gun at partygoers while on horseback. This goes to show that there’s not going to be any shortage of action and violence in the upcoming season as viewers have come to expect following the first season.

Fans will have to wait for a considerable amount of time to watch the new season, though, as HBO has previously confirmed that Westworld season 2 won’t be released before 2018.

“It’s an ambitious project, and HBO has encouraged us to take the time and resources that we need to work on each stage of that,” says creator Jonathan Nolan, so it’s going to be a while before we know for sure precisely when Westworld season 2 is going to premiere.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 836 Will Reportedly Debut With Google Pixel 2

Google is due to launch its new Pixel handsets later this year so it’s not surprising to see that rumors about this handset are picking up the pace. The latest suggests that the Google Pixel 2 might be the first handset to be powered by Qualcomm’s updated Snapdragon 836 processor. It’s going to be a slightly more powerful version of the Snapdragon 835 that’s found in existing flagships like the Galaxy S8 from Samsung.

Previous rumors have also suggested that the Galaxy Note 8 is likely going to be the handset with which the Snapdragon 836 debuts. However, that’s no longer said to be the same, it’s now believed that the Snapdragon 836 will debut with the Google Pixel 2.

That won’t be surprising given that the Snapdragon 821 also debuted with the Google Pixel. The Snapdragon 836 is going to have the same GPU and CPU combination as the Snapdragon 835 but they will have higher clock speeds and will thus be able to deliver slightly better performance.

None of this has been officially confirmed, though. The rumors are from unverified and unofficial sources. Google hasn’t even said anything about its new Pixel smartphones at this point in time so nothing is set in stone just yet.

Google is expected to unveil the new Google Pixel 2 handsets in the fall this year.

Wonder Woman 2 Movie Confirmed

Now this isn’t surprising at all. Following the success of the first Wonder Woman movie, it was only a matter of time before the sequel was announced, that’s always the case with superhero movies of this sort. Sure enough, Warner Bros. has officially confirmed that Wonder Woman 2 is now being developed. The confirmation was provided through a sizzle reel that was shown to attendees during the studio’s Hall H panel at the San Diego Comic-Con.

Wonder Woman 2 was listed as part of the eight upcoming movies from the DC universe. The other titles that have been confirmed so far include The Batman, Suicide Squad 2, Shazam, Justice League Dark, The Flash: Flashpoint, Batgirl, and Green Lantern Corps.

Buzz about the sequel has been picking up recently after Wonder Woman became a smash hit after it was released in early June. The movie has earned over $385 million so far. No much is known about the sequel at this point in time, just that Gal Gadot will be returning to play Diana Prince a.k.a Wonder Woman once again.

Director Patty Jenkins has revealed that the story is going to take place in the United States. The studio hasn’t confirmed, though, if Jenkins will be back in the director’s chair for Wonder Woman 2.
