Samsung Galaxy S8 Active Leaked In Training Manual

The Samsung Galaxy S8 Active is an upcoming handset that we can expect to hear from Samsung in the near future. A recent leak revealed the handset’s design in high-res renders, and now thanks to a leaked training manual obtained by the folks at Android Police, more details and images of the upcoming phone have been revealed.

For starters it seems that the leaks of the phone’s designs have been pretty consistent so far, which means that barring any surprises or fake-outs, we more or less know what we can expect from the phone. The training manuals also go a bit into detail about the phone’s specs and features, which once again confirms what we had heard earlier.

Given that this is the Galaxy S8 Active, its key features include IP68 certification when it comes to water and dust resistance, and it will also have a military-grade body which means that it will be able to withstand drops, shocks, and also extreme temperatures up to a certain extent. The training manual also confirms that the phone will come with Bixby installed.

Other rumored features include a 5.8-inch Super AMOLED QHD+ display with Gorilla Glass 5, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset with 4GB of RAM, 64GB of onboard storage, a 12MP rear-facing camera, an 8MP front-facing camera, and a 4,000mAh battery.

WhatsApp Beta For Windows Phone Hints At Business Features

According to the rumors which has been going on for a while now, WhatsApp could be considering launching a business version of its app, thus giving businesses an official means of using WhatsApp to communicate with their customers. As it stands there are businesses that do use WhatsApp to communications, but this is done so unofficially.

WhatsApp has yet to officially confirm the feature, but a couple of years ago Facebook (who owns WhatsApp) did state that they were considering it, but to date that has yet to materialize. However it seems that we could be getting closer, thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for Windows Phone which hints at a possible business version of WhatsApp.

As you can in screenshot above, it seems that the latest beta for WhatsApp is now preventing users from using the “check” emoji in their names. This might not seem like a very big deal, but if you think about it, these “check” icons have been used by social media platforms to verify users who are who they say they are, like politicians, celebrities, journalists, and etc.

In the case of WhatsApp, it could be that they are planning on using the same icon to identify businesses who are using their platform to communicate with customers, and so to prevent misrepresentation and fraud, they are barring users from using it in their names, which makes sense.

Mysterious Samsung Phone Certified By Bluetooth SIG, Could Be The Galaxy X

One of the popular rumors making its rounds in the past couple of years is that Samsung could have a foldable smartphone in the works called the Galaxy X. We know that Samsung is working on foldable displays and they have shown off prototypes in the past, but whether or not this will result in a foldable smartphone still remains to be seen.

However it looks like we could be inching closer towards that being a reality, thanks to a recent sighting at the Bluetooth SIG which has certified a mysterious Samsung handset that has led to speculation that this could be the Galaxy X that we have been hearing about. This is because the handset in question sports the model number SM-G888N0 which does not correspond to any existing Samsung device.

This means that this phone could be a brand new model, as opposed to being refreshes of existing lineups. It has been pointed out that this model has also been previously spotted at the WiFi Alliance where it was similarly certified. However there are some doubts about this phone because it uses Bluetooth 4.2 and at that time it was WiFi certified, it was running Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.

For a supposedly hi-tech phone, these are some old specs. It is possible that it was simply a prototype and that the final version will run the latest build of Android and Bluetooth 5.0, but for some it is just speculation so try not to get your hopes up. We have heard that the phone could be unveiled in Q3 2017, but some are suggesting early 2018, so do take it with a grain of salt for now.

Alleged Note 8 Display Panel Compared With iPhone 8

With the Samsung Galaxy S8+ sporting a 6.2-inch display, we have heard that Samsung could be looking to make its upcoming Note 8 handset slightly larger at 6.3-inches to 6.4-inches, which is larger than any Galaxy Note handset that Samsung has released to date, although its bezel-less design should help it feel less monstrous in your hands.

Now if you’re trying to get an idea of how big the phone could be, a recent photo uploaded onto Weibo (via The Android Soul) shows off the Note 8’s display panel and compares it against that of the iPhone 8, or alleged iPhone 8. We have no idea if these display panels are genuine, but if they are, it does give us an idea of how big the Note 8 will be.

According to the rumors, the iPhone 8 will allegedly be an in-between the iPhone 7s and 7s Plus in terms of display size, where it will sport a 5-inch display, which might be seen as some as a happy middle between the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch display sizes of the iPhones. If that is true, then the Note 8 will measure 1.3- to 1.4-inches larger than the iPhone 8, which we guess is pretty obvious judging from the photo to the right.

However like we said, we have no idea if these components are the real deal so it’s hard to tell if the comparisons are accurate, but in all fairness the components do look similar to what we’ve seen in the leaks, so maybe they could be real.

Apple Reportedly Pushing To Be Its OLED Supplier For 2018

Like many companies, Apple tends to diversify who they work with and who supplies to them. After all being dependent on just one supplier is probably not a good idea since should anything go wrong or if things just aren’t up to standard, it could impact the delay of product launches, which is why we’re hearing that Apple is pushing LG to become one of its OLED suppliers.

This is something we’ve heard about in the past, and a new report from Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that LG is expected to become one of Apple’s suppliers for OLED in 2018 which will be used towards the 2018 iPhone. Apparently Apple is pushing for LG because due to Samsung’s dominance in the OLED field, it seems that Apple has lost some of their bargaining power with them, not to mention both companies don’t exactly have the best relationship given their lawsuits in the past.

According to Kuo, “Samsung is now Apple’s sole iPhone OLED panel supplier across front- and back-end manufacturing. We think LGD could institute a similar production model. However, considering its strengths are in front-end process, collaborating with a specialized back- end process provider like GIS will, in our view, significantly boost iPhone OLED panel output rate.”

However we have also heard that instead of relying purely on Samsung, Apple could also be thinking about investing in developing their own OLED technology, which could ultimately reduce their reliance on third-party suppliers entirely, but we guess that might take some time.

Scientists may have found a Neptune-sized alien moon

Astronomers have found an abundance of exoplanets, but no exomoons. Despite ongoing efforts, the tiny celestial bodies have just been too elusive to detect using modern technology. However, researchers might have just hit paydirt. They’ve used Kepler…

Is This How Fast The iPhone 8 Will Be?

The iPhone 8 has yet to be officially announced, let alone released, but the folks at PhoneBuff think that they might have an idea of how fast the phone is going to be. How is that so? They have basically conducted a speed test using the latest iPad Pro and have pitted it against that of the iPhone 7.

According to PhoneBuff, this is said to be a relatively accurate method of measuring the iPhone 8’s speed. This is because last year a similar test was conducted in which upon the release of the iPhone 7, the results were roughly similar. This is due to the fact that the iPad Pro features the A10X Fusion chipset which is an upgraded version of the iPhone 7’s A10 Fusion, and it is also built on the 10nm process which the A11 is rumored to be based on as well.

It is because of this that it is expected that the iPhone 8’s performance shouldn’t too far off from that of the A10X Fusion. That is unless Apple decides to kick things up a notch by making the A11 much more powerful than that of the A10X Fusion, but we guess we’ll have to wait and see. In the meantime you can check out the video above in which the new iPad Pro clearly blazing past the iPhone 7.

In some instances the iPad Pro appeared to be slightly slower, but it is speculated that this is due to the larger screen which means that more content needs to be loaded. Make what you will of this test, but assuming that Apple launches the iPhone 8 in September, we won’t have to wait much longer to find out for ourselves.

Samsung Gear S3 Frontier TUMI Special Edition Announced

The problem with our gadgets is that while some of them are perfectly functional, looks wise there are times when they do look out of place at certain events or when paired with certain clothes, which is important for those who are particularly concerned about fashion. This is why companies like Apple have tried to make its Apple Watch more of a fashion accessory.

However if you’re not a fan of Apple, not to worry as Samsung has recently announced a collaboration with TUMI in which the Gear S3 Frontier TUMI Special Edition smartwatch has been announced. As you can see in the photo above, this version of the Gear S3 certainly looks different than the “normal” version of the smartwatch.

On the surface it looks like a regular watch which is actually great if you’re trying to make it look inconspicuous. It will feature an Italian canvas band designed by TUMI, and a stainless steel buckle, as well as a custom TUMI watchface, which you can see in the image above. Other than the brand new look of the smartwatch, the Gear S3 Frontier TUMI Special Edition will function the same as the other Gear S3 Frontier models.

However it is more expensive than the regular Gear S3 Frontier and will cost $450, and note that this model also doesn’t come with LTE so if cellular connectivity is a must, then this probably isn’t the watch for you. The watch should be available online via Samsung’s website or Best Buy starting from today, or you can walk into a store and check it out for yourself in person starting from the 6th of August.

SoundCloud Reportedly Close To Selling Stakes In The Company

With more music streaming services entering the market, such as Apple Music which has the resources, experience, and connections of Apple, it isn’t surprising that some of the smaller music services that were around before are having a hard time trying to compete. SoundCloud is a great example, where we’ve heard that the company has been trying to sell itself.

However it seems that SoundCloud could be getting close, according to a report from Bloomberg in which their sources have revealed that the company is close to selling its stakes to a pair of private equity firms. This is expected to help SoundCloud raise some money to help them continue operating into the future, although exactly how long for remains to be seen, and whether or not it will help is also a different story.

Their sources claim that the two firms are expected to hold a majority stake in SoundCloud, but note that while the talks are in the advanced stages, they could still fall apart. We have heard rumors that Google had at some point in time considered acquiring the company, but it seems that is no longer the case.

SoundCloud has recently tried to introduce a subscription feature in a bid to compete against other streaming services as well as a means to pull in revenue. While their subscription is cheaper than regular streaming services, SoundCloud is typically viewed as a platform catered more towards indie music lovers rather than those seeking mainstream music.

Niantic Postpones Pokemon GO Events In Europe

Niantic’s Pokemon GO is a game unlike any we’ve seen so far, and given the popularity of the Pokemon franchise, it’s safe to say that Niantic certainly was not prepared for the onslaught of players when they first launched, and they also seemed to have underestimated the number of gamers that would show up at their first event in Chicago.

However the company did state that they would be learning from this experience and apply that to future events, like those coming up in Europe, but unfortunately for European fans, you guys will have to wait a little bit longer as Niantic has since announced that they will be postponing their events in the region, or at least certain parts of it.

According to Niantic, “In order to guarantee the best possible gameplay experience for European Trainers, we have decided to postpone the events in Europe scheduled for August 5 (Copenhagen and Prague) and August 12 (Stockholm and Amsterdam) until a date later in the Fall.”

The company states that only the events in Europe will be postponed, and that those scheduled to take place in Japan will continue as planned, and those in September in France, Spain, and Germany will also proceed as per usual. Hopefully they’ll be able to sort this out because we’re sure the last thing the company needs is another lawsuit.
