SunnyCam Activ Edition Video Glasses Review

I’ve done all kinds of activities where I wanted to record video to save and look back on later. When I drove at the race track a lot, video was a must to watch how much laps improved over time. Most people opt to mount a GoPro on their vehicle, or on their person, but that can be a pain to do. SunnyCam has a cool wearable camera that’s built into the frame of a pair of sunglasses.

The review units I was sent are the SunnyCam Activ Edition, which includes a full HD 1080p camera stuffed into an impact resistant frame. The small, rechargeable battery inside the glasses promises to record for a full hour per charge, and in my use that estimate was about right.

The Activ Edition glasses come with normal tinted lenses making them look like sun glasses. They also ship with a pair of clear lenses for sports indoors or when you might not want tinted lenses, the lenses are impact resistant . The camera inside offers a 90-degree field of view, making the video look clear and natural with no fish-eye effect to ruin the fun. The glasses do not ship with a memory card, but will support cards up to 64GB in capacity.

In use the glasses were dead simple to use and operate. The controls are built into the left arm near the cover for the memory card slot. There’s just a single button that you press to start recording and press to stop. Vibration feedback lets you know that your input was accepted so you don’t go all day thinking you are recording only to get home and have no video.

Video is recorded at 30 fps in MP4 format with stereo audio. I used a card reader for my video transfers with a microSD to SD adapter. The videos played back on my Windows 10 PC with no conversion needed and looked fantastic. Audio quality is pretty good, but it can be hard to hear what is being said to you from a distance. Here’s a sample of footage that was captured and then uploaded to YouTube – so there might be a little degradation from the transcoding process:

While image quality is quite good, I’d love to see optical image stabilization to remove the shake and shudder from walking and moving around. The fast motion of video being recorded from your point of view when you turn your head could be enough to give some motion sickness, so be warned. Wind noise was also an issue in my testing. While mountain biking you can hear more wind noise on the audio than anything else.

The glasses come with a carry case, tinted lenses, clear lenses, micro USB cable for charging and transfer, and a strap to hold the glasses and keep them from falling, and are available from Amazon for $159.99(USD) with free shipping.

Huawei Band 2 And Band 2 Pro Fitness Trackers Launched

Huawei has launched a couple of new fitness trackers called the Band 2 and Band 2 Pro. The new wearable devices from Huawei feature a heart rate sensor that provides all-day heart monitoring. The Band 2 Pro has additional functionality that provides more in-depth information to the user. It even has a built-in GPS.

Both the Huawei Band 2 and Band 2 Pro feature a PMOLED display. They are waterproof up to 5 ATM and have the same design. The bands are compatible with Android devices running version 4.4 and up as well as iOS devices running version 8.0 and up.

The Huawei Band 2 Pro also has a “Firstbeat” system which analyzes the maximum rate of oxygen consumption to provide the user with feedback which will aid them in improving their stamina.

Other than that, the Huawei Band 2 Pro comes with a built-in GPS which provides accurate data about distance covered and the speed. The Sports Coach feature integrates a professional motion analysis algorithm “to help users exercise in a thoroughly scientific way,” the company says on its website.

Huawei is going to offer the new wearable devices in blue, black and red band options. The company is yet to confirm when the Band 2 and Band 2 Pro will be released and how much they’re going to cost.

New Google Glass Launched But It’s Not For You

Google hyped up the benefits of Google Glass quite a bit back when this product was launched as part of an Explorer Program a couple of years ago. However, Google’s ambitions for putting a wearable computer on our faces fizzled out. It didn’t release another version of the Google Glass and we’ve not heard much about this product over the past two years. However, a new Google Glass has been launched today, but don’t get too excited because it’s not for you.

Google started focusing on the applications for this technology in the enterprise market. For the past two years, it has been working to make Glass more useful in several industries.

The new Google Glass Enterprise Edition that it has launched today makes what the company has been working on for the last couple of years widely available to enterprise customers.

Throughout this time, Google has worked with select partners to make Glass more useful in their factories and on their production lines. GE Aviation is one of the partners that Google has been working with.

Its mechanics are sporting Google Glass which displays important instructions while they carry out airplane assembly and maintenance. Glass frees their hands and GE Aviation estimates that this has improved efficiency on the floor by as much as 12 percent.

The new Google Glass obviously won’t be making its way to customers but, nevertheless, it’s nice to see that Google has finally found a place for this product.

Security Robot Tries To Commit Suicide By Running Into A Fountain

Electronics and water don’t go well together, so if a robot were to ever commit suicide, it would probably find somewhere with lots of water. That’s precisely what one DC-based security robot did. It went straight into a fountain inside an office complex because apparently, it had seen enough.

The Knightscope K5 is a security patrol robot which weighs 300 pounds and is five feet tall. It’s difficult for the robot to get back up on its own if it tips over due to its armless design and overall shape.

While it’s not entirely clear why the robot ended up in the fountain, the Knightscope K5 security robot was installed to secure an office building. One would assume that being drowned in a fountain would be enough to kill the robot.

However, there are no reports about the robot’s condition at this point in time so it’s unclear whether or not it survived the swim. It’s anybody’s guess right now why the robot thought it would be a good idea to run straight into a fountain.

Robots may very well be the future but as it stands right now, the K5 had to be taken out of the fountain by humans. I guess we can hold on to our supremacy over the machines for a little bit longer.

Amazon Meal Kits Are Reportedly On Sale Already

It was reported yesterday that Amazon had registered a new slogan which suggested that the company will soon start selling packaged meal kits. All customers would have to do is take out the ingredients from the box and assemble the meal. According to a new report, Amazon has already been selling these fresh meal kits to select Amazon Fresh customers.

Amazon Fresh customer and Seattle resident Josh Chadd detailed his experience with the meal kits to GeekWire. Each Amazon Meal Kit has enough ingredients for two servings. The price for each kit ranges from $16 to $20.

Amazon is reportedly selling 17 different kits that cover a variety of meals which include Tacos al Pastor with Pork, Roasted Cod with Cannellini Bean Ragout & Pesto, Wagyu Beef Burger with Bacon Jam & Sweet Potato Fries, and Steak Au Poivre.

Chadd says that the meal kits starting showing up in the search results on Amazon Fresh just a couple of weeks ago. The meals are billed as “easy-to-follow, chef-designed recipe” with the kits providing customers with “perfectly portioned fresh ingredients.”

It remains to be seen when Amazon is going to expand this meal service to other markets. However, this goes to show that Amazon is serious about competing in this space so rivals like Blue Apron have really got to step up their game if they’re to compete against the behemoth that is Amazon.
