Disney’s New Star Wars Hotel Is Straight Up Westworld

Westworld was HBO’s most popular TV series last year. It imagines a modern theme park where the patrons interact with AI-powered robots and live out their wildest fantasies. All patrons get their very own back story. Disney has announced something similar. While I don’t know about the wildest fantasies part, Disney says that its newly announced Star Wars Hotel will give all guests a storyline that will have a lasting impact throughout their stay.

Disney confirmed during its D23 expo in Los Angeles yesterday that it’s building a Star Wars Hotel. It hasn’t revealed many details about this project so far but the mere mention of this project has fans excited.

Disney has confirmed that all employees of the hotel will be in costume and character at all times. All guests will get a storyline which Disney says will “touch every single minute of your days.”

Since the entire experience is going to take place on a space ship, the windows for only show space. So much for having to pay for a better view!

Disney has also confirmed that the Star Wars Hotel is going to be located at Florida’s Walt Disney World. It’s unclear at this point in time if the company plans on expanding this hotel to other Disney locations across the globe.

I think that the demand is eventually going to get so high that Disney will surely consider that option as well.

Surface Pro Hibernation Issue Fix Released By Microsoft

Some users of Microsoft’s new Surface Pro have been complaining about a hibernation issue with their new device. Microsoft has now released a fix for the hibernation issue. A new firmware update has been released by Microsoft which takes care of the hibernation and sleep issue that owners of its new Surface Pro devices have reported.

The new Surface Pro was launched towards the end of May this year. It’s the successor to the Surface Pro 4 which has proven to be quite popular with the customers.

Microsoft hasn’t revealed a lot of information about what this fix brings in the changelog. It only mentions that the update revises system power reporting. Apparently, that’s what needed a little tweaking to take care of this issue.

New Surface Pro owners can get this firmware update starting today via Windows Update. They can download the fix by heading to Settings > Update & security > Windows Update on their Surface Pro machine.

The issue has been irking quite a lot of new Surface Pro users. They were experiencing random hibernation of the Surface Pro which can prove to be very irritating, particularly when they were trying to get some work done. Customers started reporting the issue about random hibernation last month.

Fortunately for them, Microsoft didn’t take too long to fix it.

Who Is The Thirteenth Doctor? BBC Finally Makes It Official

Fans of the long-running British science fiction show have long been gripped with the following question: Who is the Thirteenth Doctor? The 12th Doctor Who is played by Peter Capaldi but the BBC confirmed several months back that once his run was over, it was going to pick out a new actor to play Doctor Who as is the norm with this series. The BBC has finally confirmed who is going to be the 13th Doctor.

Doctor Who is centered around the story of the Doctor who can travel through time and space in a time machine called the TARDIS. The time machine is shaped like the 1920s British police box. The Doctor has to save humanity by fighting monsters and aliens. The show has a five-decade history so it has clearly been a fan favorite for a very, very long time.

The BBC has confirmed that Jodie Whittaker is going to be filling Capaldi’s shoes. There were rumors that perhaps the BBC is going to pick a female this time around and that has turned out to be true.

Whittaker happens to be the first female actor to play Doctor Who. She is going to replace Capaldi in an upcoming Christmas special before she takes on the role in the complete 11th series of Doctor Who next year.

“It’s more than an honor to play the Doctor. It means remembering everyone I used to be, while stepping forward to embrace everything the Doctor stands for: hope. I can’t wait,” Whittaker said in an interview with the BBC.

Lenovo And Disney Are Developing A Star Wars VR Experience

If the Westworld-like Star Wars Hotel wasn’t enough to get you excited, Disney has also announced at its D23 expo in Los Angeles that it’s working with Lenovo on an immersive Star Wars experience that’s going to be powered by virtual reality. Players will be able to play HoloChess with characters from the movie and even take part in thrilling lightsaber battles.

Any Star Wars fan worth their salt has always wanted to take part in a lightsaber battle so this will certainly be a dream come true for many.

Disney and Lenovo are developing the Star Wars Jedi Challenges VR system which comprises of a lightsaber controller that’s paired with a special virtual reality headset. The headset itself is like just another mobile VR viewer as it will require a smartphone to be docked in the front.

No further details have been made available at this point in time so it’s unclear when this dedicated headset is going to be released and how much it’s going to cost. It’s also not known whether users will be able to play other games and consume their own media content in VR with this headset.

The kind of apps that will be offered for this Star Wars VR experience have not yet been confirmed as well. All of this information will be revealed in the coming months.

Amazon Is Developing Its Own Messaging App

Messaging apps are in vogue these days. Some of the most popular cross-platform messaging apps on the market today are from behemoths like Facebook, Google, and Apple. There are countless other companies that have carved niches for themselves in the mobile messaging arena. It appears that another behemoth is looking forward to making it in this market. According to a new report, Amazon is working on its very own cross-platform messaging app.

According to the report, Amazon is working on an app called Anytime that it’s going to release for Android, iOS, and desktop users. It’s going to be a cross-platform messaging app. How will Anytime set itself from the competition?

The report says that it will offer encryption, voice and video call functionality, sticks, easier group chats, and more. Then again, it’s not like most popular messaging apps on the market right now don’t offer similar features.

We can be sure that Amazon will try to integrate its core business with the app in one way or the other. Apparently, the app will enable users to chat with businesses for customer service and even for shopping.

Amazon’s personal assistant Alexa may also be integrated in some shape or form. None of this has been officially confirmed by Amazon at this point in time. However, it’s not at all surprising to hear that the company might be making a messaging app of its own.

Its Echo devices have already received calling functionality so it makes all the sense in the world for Amazon to dive into the world of text messaging as well.
