Users Can Now Use Cortana Together With Fitbit

If you want to monitor your fitness progress with your Fitbit, you can always just glance at its display to see what is happening at the moment, or alternatively you can always launch the app for your history and other details. However it seems that Fitbit owners have a new way of interacting with their biometrics, and that is through Cortana.

Microsoft has recently announced that there is a new Fitbit skill for Cortana. According to Microsoft, “With the new Fitbit skill for Cortana, you can easily monitor your health and fitness goals – just by asking Cortana. Users can access the Fitbit skill across devices and platforms, starting with Windows 10, Android and iOS and soon on the Harman Kardon Invoke speaker.”

We should point out that this does not mean that your Fitbit wearable will suddenly gain a new voice assistant in Cortana, but rather users can use their Cortana-support devices to get information about your biometrics without having to launch the app or access the website. Also because Cortana is integrated into multiple devices like laptops, PCs, and phones, as long as it is tied to their Fitbit users can access this information anytime.

Users who want to get started just have to say, “Hey Cortana, Open Fitbit,” to begin the setup process.

Alleged Leaked Component ‘Confirms’ iPhone 8’s Wireless Charging

Wireless charging isn’t new, but it has always been a feature missing from Apple’s iPhone, or at least not in an official capacity. However one of the popular iPhone 8 rumors is that Apple could finally introduce the feature to the lineup, and maybe even improve on it without the need to charge via a charging mat/surface.

Whether or not that is true remains to be seen, but in a photo uploaded onto Slashleaks (via AppleInsider), it allegedly shows off a wireless charging coil that supposedly belongs to that of the iPhone 8, thus “confirming” the feature in the process. What makes this particular component more believable is the socket end which appears to be for Lightning.

Exactly how Apple’s rumored wireless charging will work remains to be seen. Some are claiming that Apple could have figured out “real” wireless charging where you don’t need a charging mat like the current solutions in the market. However others are claiming that it will be the same, and that it might also require that users own a separate accessory to facilitate it.

Either way take it with a grain of salt for now, but hopefully in the next month or two we should have all the official details.

Twitter’s Latest Financials Reveal They Lost 1 Million Users

When it comes to social media platforms, Facebook and Twitter probably come to mind and they both exist for different reasons and for different purposes. While Facebook appears to be growing, the same cannot be said for Twitter, who in their latest financials revealed that they have lost both users and money.

According to the numbers, it seems that Twitter has lost as many as 1 million users in the previous quarter. Twitter had initially claimed back in April that they were seeing a 14% bump in the number of monthly active users, but according to Engadget, the latest figures show that the number of users have remained the same, with growth international markets being offset by losses in the US.

The company also appears to be losing money, where they reported a loss of $116 million in the quarter, versus the $107 million they lost in the same quarter last year. The money made from advertisers has also dropped from $535 million Q2 2016 to $489 million in Q2 2017, although Twitter seems to be pretty optimistic about it and claims that this is due to some one-off changes.

That being said, the company has been facing quite a bit of backlash from its users over their failure to protect them from trolls and cyberbullies. We’ve seen many instances of how users have harassed each other to the point where many have quit the platform, although to be fair the company has been trying to improve on that and have recently stated that there is significantly less abuse today.

Latest Patent Filing Hints At Apple’s AR Glasses Efforts

Is Apple working on augmented reality glasses? That’s what the rumors are claiming, but given Apple’s interest in the technology, especially with the launch of ARKit that kind of makes it official, it’s hard to ignore the possibility that an AR headset could be in the works. In fact a recent patent seems to hint at exactly that.

Discovered by Patently Apple (via 9toMac), a patent filed by Metaio hints at a system in which users use their smartphone to interact with images that can be seen through a special pair of glasses. The former has already been done with games like Pokemon GO and like we said, with the launch of ARKit we are starting to see more AR-based apps, but the latter is the interesting part, which you can see in the diagram above for an idea of how it might work together.

The patent’s description in part reads, “The mobile device may perform an action related to at least one point of interest if at least part of the computer-generated virtual object blended in on the semi-transparent screen is overlapped by a user’s finger or device held by the user.” For those who are unaware, Metaio is an AR company that was acquired by Apple back in 2015.

This is actually not the first time we’re hearing about Apple’s plans for AR, and in fact it was just last month that Apple actually reportedly acquired another AR company, but whether or not it will lead to AR glasses being made remains to be seen.
