Capcom Explains Why Marvel VS Capcom: Infinite Has No X-Men

If you’ve played any of those arcade game mashups like Marvel VS Capcom, or Marvel VS Street Fighter, if there is pretty much one staple is that they feature characters from the X-Men universe. Granted not every single one of them, but usually with the likes of Wolverine, Cyclops, Storm, Magneto, and so on.

However in the recently announced Marvel VS Capcom: Infinite, X-Men characters are missing from the roster and if you’re wondering why, the game’s producers have explained the reason why in a recent interview with GameSpot. One of the producers, Pete Rosas, states that from he believes that why some players want certain X-Men characters is for their in-game ability.

According to Rosas, “If you were to actually think about it, these characters are just functions. They’re just doing things. Magneto, case and point, is a favorite because he has eight-way dash and he’s really fast, right? So our more technical players, all they want to do is triangle jump and that kind of stuff. Well guess what, Nova can do the same thing, Captain Marvel can do the same thing. Ultron can do the same thing.”

The game’s other producer Michael Evans adds that it has to do with popularity, especially in more modern times when we’re starting to see more Marvel movies being made, such as Black Panther or Captain Marvel (who will be getting her own movie). According to Evans, “Captain Marvel may seem like a strange pick, but she’s fantastic. She fits the gameplay. She fits the story, and they’re gonna be really pushing her as a strong female lead all the way up into the movie. We’re trying to take everything into account and choose the best characters.”

We suppose it is a pity to see that some classic characters won’t be returning, but who knows, it could still prove to be a very fun game. Marvel VS Capcom: Infinite is currently set for a release on the 19th of September.

Samsung Is Working Towards Explosion-Proof Batteries

Without a doubt the snafu of exploding batteries in the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 was a huge blow to Samsung’s reputation, one that has been built up carefully over the years. However exploding batteries aren’t new and we have seen many instances in the past where not just phones have exploded, but so have hoverboards.

However this is a future that Samsung wants to avoid, so much so that Samsung SDI (the company’s battery division) has revealed (via SamMobile) that they are working on producing solid-state batteries that are safe from explosion. However it will be a couple of years from being a reality, so it remains to be seen whether or not they will be able to pull it off.

According to a Samsung SDI official who spoke to The Korea Herald, “Our technological level to produce a solid-state battery for smartphones will be mature enough in one to two years. However, it depends on Samsung Electronics whether it will be used for phones.” Assuming they do, this could help assuage the fears of smartphone owners who might be concerned about exploding batteries.

So far there has been quite a bit of work done on batteries to make them safer and last longer, but for the most part lithium-ion batteries continue to remain the popular choice for electronic devices. Exactly what the standard of batteries are in the future is still anyone’s guess.

The LG V30 Will Reportedly Ditch Its Secondary Display

Just like how the Samsung Galaxy Note series is distinguished by the fact that it comes with a bundled stylus in the form of the S Pen, the LG V-series of smartphones has always been known for its secondary ticker display at the top of the phone which allows the handset to display additional information separate of the main display.

However it seems that LG, after two generations of the V-series, could be abandoning the secondary display. This is according to a report from XDA who has heard from a “trusted source” regarding LG’s plan. We suppose this makes sense because while the secondary display was unique, it wasn’t exactly a raved about feature, and so LG might have decided to focus on other things.

One of those new things that could be brought to the LG V30 could be an OLED display which is in line with earlier reports that LG Display would begin mass producing the panels, not to mention it will help LG better compete with the likes of Samsung and other smartphone makers who have already introduced OLED displays to their phones.

In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but we should have more details in the coming months. Last we heard, the LG V30 was set for an unveiling at IFA 2017 which will be taking place at the start of September.

StarCraft Remastered Set For August 14 Release

Earlier this year and following the rumors, Blizzard announced StarCraft Remastered. Basically this is a remastering of the original StarCraft that helped the RTS genre gain a competitive edge in eSports, and without a doubt had a huge cultural impact in countries such as South Korea where the game continues to remain extremely popular.

For those who wouldn’t mind getting their hands on the remastered copy of the game, you might be interested to learn that Blizzard has since confirmed that the game will be released on the 14th of August, which means that we have about a month and a half to go before we are able to play it.

The game is priced at $15 and is available for pre-purchase via Blizzard’s online store. However players are required to have the StarCraft Anthology activated on their Blizzard accounts, but given that the Anthology is free anyway we guess you can go ahead and do that right now. Note that Blizzard has already made the original StarCraft free.

Gamers who don’t mind the outdated graphics can go ahead and check it out. The upside is that should you decide to upgrade to the remastered version of the game, your progression will be carried forward. For more details about StarCraft Remastered, head on over to the StarCraft website.

Rumors About Cancelled Mass Effect: Andromeda DLC Rubbished

There was a lot of hype and hope riding on BioWare’s Mass Effect: Andromeda, given how popular the original trilogy was. However while it wasn’t exactly terrible, it did not live up to the hype and it seems that many gamers were a bit disappointed with it, so much so that apparently the future of the franchise has been put on hold.

This has also since led to rumors of cancellation of upcoming DLCs, which EA has since confirmed is not true. For those hearing about this for the first time, the rumors began when a studio from Austria called Sinclair Networks posted onto Facebook (which has since been deleted, but not before it was captured by Critical Hit) claiming that their contract with BioWare to produce three DLCs for Andromeda had been cancelled.

The message reads, “Due to issues in initial production, heavy critique, significant delays in other projects, staff allocation and reductions in Montreal, it was decided to shelve the franchise for the time being and all our resources and outsourcing are being focused to the 2018 release of Anthem. For the moment the Mass Effect series will be on ice until BioWare can decide which direction the franchise will go.”

However like we said, EA has since rubbished those rumors and in a statement they have since released, “We’ve never worked with Sinclair Networks and they had nothing to do with the development of Mass Effect: Andromeda. Beyond that we don’t have any news to share at this time regarding  DLC.” It doesn’t exactly sound positive, but we guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
