Rule #1: Don’t Talk About this Fight Club Shirt

Fight Club is one of those classic movies that you have to watch more than once to really take it all in. There are lots of hints that all isn’t what it seems, but it still is quite shocking how it all turns out. Fans of the film might want to grab this Fight Club woven button up shirt.

It has a black background with a print of the Fight Club soap on it. Unlike the soap, the shirt isn’t made from liposuctioned human fat – it’s made from cotton.

You can get the shirt at ThinkGeek for $39.99(USD). Just don’t blow up your house trying to order.

Asus Confirms ZenFone 4 Launch Date

We have seen a lot of rumors and reports about the Asus ZenFone 4 recently and now the company has finally confirmed when it’s going to unveil this handset. Hopefully, it won’t make its fans wait for as long as it did with the ZenFone 3. The company today confirmed when it’s going to formally announce the ZenFone 4. It’s going to reveal detailed information about the handset at its launch event next month.

Asus has already launched a variant of the ZenFone 4. It’s called the ZenFone 4 Max and it’s only available in Russia so far. It’s likely that the company might announce a more powerful variant of the new handset that will be launched globally.

The promotional material that Asus has released so far to drum up hype for the launch event suggests that the ZenFone 4 is going to feature a dual camera on the back. That just might end up being one of the biggest selling points of this device.

The launch event for the Asus ZenFone 4 is going to take place in Pasay, the Philippines on August 19th. We’ll have to wait until then to receive detailed information from the company about this device. Asus will most likely confirm pricing and availability details for the ZenFone 4 on August 19th.

Adobe Petitioned To Make Flash Open Source

Adobe has been stringing along Flash for years even though calls have intensified for this outdated web technology to bite the dust. Most web browsers have actively started blocking Flash to safeguard their users against the various threats that materialize due to Flash-based content. Adobe recently confirmed when it’s going to discontinue Flash for good. However, some would like Adobe to keep Flash around, particularly for “future generations.”

An online petition has been launched by web developer Juha Linstedt, calling on Adobe to make Flash open source. The idea is to ensure that Flash sticks around as a part of Internet history after Adobe ends support for the Flash player in 2020.

“Flash is an important piece of Internet history and killing Flash means future generations can’t access the past,” the petition states, adding that the end of support for Flash would mean that “Games, experiments and websites would be forgotten.”

Linstedt adds that by making Flash open source, Adobe will ensure that Flash projects are kept alive and safe. The developer also puts forward a suggestion which involves creating a standalone web browser that’s capable of playing Flash content.

The developer acknowledges that there might be some licensed components in Flash that Adobe won’t be able to offer publicly once Flash bites the dust. “Simply leave them out with a note explaining what was removed,” says Linstedt, adding that “We will either bypass them, or replace them with open source alternatives.”

Adobe has not yet commented on this petition.

Galaxy A3 (2017) Android 7.0 Nougat Update Released

The Android 7.0 Nougat update is finally trickling down to more affordable handsets from Samsung. As expected, the company’s first priority was to release said update for its more expensive handsets. The company today released the Android 7.0 Nougat update for the Galaxy A3 (2017). This handset was released as part of Samsung’s new Galaxy A (2017) series that was released earlier this year.

The new Galaxy A series was launched back in January this year. The Galaxy A3 (2017) is accompanied by two other handsets, the Galaxy A5 (2017) and the Galaxy A7 (2017). Both cost more and offer more specs than the entry-level model.

All three handsets were released some four months after Google had released Android 7.0 Nougat. However, they came with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box, possibly because Samsung wanted the Galaxy S8 to be its first Nougat-powered smartphone.

Samsung has now started rolling out the Android 7.0 Nougat update of the Galaxy A3 (2017) model number SM-A320F. The firmware update has been released in Russia so far but it’s only a matter of time before the firmware is released in other parts of the world.

This latest firmware release for the Galaxy A3 (2017) carries build number A320FXXU2BQG5 and aside from bringing all of the features that are part and parcel of Nougat, it also brings the latest monthly security patches for the handset.

Ex-Google SVP Feels Android Phones Are ‘Years’ Behind iPhone Photography

It’s no secret that a lot of people prefer iPhones because Apple’s smartphones are known to offer an impeccable photography experience. Android OEMs have been rushing to catch up to the iPhone in terms of imaging prowess over the past few years and some claim that their devices can do better than the iPhone. That’s not how the ex-Google senior vice president of social Vic Gundotra feels. He thinks that Android handsets are “years” behind the iPhone as far as photography is concerned.

In a Facebook post, Gundotra praised the quality of the iPhone 7 Plus camera, saying that he left his professional camera at home and took “stunning” photos with his smartphone.

One of his followers commented that the Galaxy S8 has a better camera but Gundotra disagreed, going so far as to say that “I would never use an Android phone for photos!.”

According to Gundotra, the reason why Android smartphones lag behind iPhones in photography is the Android operating system. Gundotra says that the greatest innovation in photography is not happening at the hardware level but at the computational photography level.

Apple doesn’t have the same constraints that Android OEMs do, he says, so the company can not only innovate with the actual camera hardware but also fine tune the software to provide the best possible imaging performance.

On the other hand, Android OEMs can only innovate on the hardware level and then convince Google to allow that innovation to be surfaced to other apps using the appropriate APIs. “That can take YEARS,” says Gundotra.

What do you think, do you agree that iPhones tend to be better at photography compared to Android flagships?

Samsung’s New Mobile LTE Modem Supports Speeds Faster Than Fiber

Samsung’s existing flagship chipset, the Exynos 8895, has an integrated Cat.16 LTE modem which has support for download speeds of up to 1Gbps. Not content with those numbers, Samsung worked closely with Japanese telecommunication measuring instrument provider Anritsu to hit download speeds of up to 1.2Gbps with its new Cat.18 LTE modem which is the industry’s first mobile modem to feature 6CA support. What this means is that devices with this modem will be able to support download speeds faster than a conventional home fiber connection.

Samsung’s new 6CA modem offers support for theoretical download speeds of 1.2Gbps. That’s enough to download a full-length HD movie in just 10 seconds. It will also enable buffer-less video calls and mobile live-broadcasting.

The carrier aggregation support improves data transfer rates and network performance. Since Samsung has increased the aggregation capability from five bandwidths to six, the new LTE modem can offer faster yet more stable data transfers.

It also supports 4×4 MIMO (Multiple-Input, Multiple-Output) and higher-order 256 QAM (Quadrature amplitude modulation) scheme for maximum data transfer rates.

Samsung’s new Cat.18 6CA-supported LTE modem will be integrated with the company’s mobile processors which are due to enter mass production by the end of this year. There’s a very good chance that the Galaxy S9 might be the first smartphone to feature this new LTE modem.

HBO Hacked, Game Of Thrones Script Leaked

The script for an unaired Game of Thrones episode has reportedly been leaked online after a hack at HBO. The hack has also resulted in two unaired episodes of Ballers and Room 104 being leaked online as well. The Game of Thrones script that has been leaked is said to be for the episode that’s due to air next week.

The hackers that did this claim to have over 1.5TB of data in their possession that was taken from HBO. According to Entertainment Weekly, the hackers emailed several reporters last night with information about the leak. They also promised that more content will be leaked soon.

This isn’t the first time that HBO is having to deal with a leak concerning its most popular show. The first four episodes of last year’s Game of Thrones season were leaked online. HBO was later able to confirm that the leaks came from advance screeners that are normally sent out to an approved group of reviews and critics.

HBO decided to stop sending advance screeners for the current season in order to prevent something like that from happening again. It even cautioned the show’s cast members to take extra security measures, like using two-factor authentication on their email accounts, to prevent any mishap.

“HBO recently experienced a cyber incident, which resulted in the compromise of proprietary information,” the cable giant has confirmed in a statement, adding that it’s investigating the incident and working with law enforcement as well as outside cybersecurity firms.
