Elon Musk Shares Real-World Footage Of The Boring Tunnel In Action

Fed up with the traffic situation, last year Elon Musk announced his plans to launch a “boring company” that basically bypasses traffic on the street level by going underneath them. Earlier this year we saw a video rendering of how Musk’s idea could work in real life, but if you wanted something more concrete, you’re in luck.

Musk has recently uploaded a short video onto his Instagram account where he shows off real-world footage of how the boring tunnel might work, or at least in part. The video shows a Tesla (obviously) driving onto a platform. This platform is actually similar to the one shown in the video render which acts as a lift, and will help bring the car up or down, or in this case down into the tunnels where it will be ferried a certain distance before resurfacing on the roads again.

We don’t actually see what happens when the car goes down, but presumably because this is the part that has yet to be complete, although just last month we did hear that the Boring Company did manage to complete its first tunnel section. We’re not sure how many cities or countries will be adopting Musk’s technology, although the city of Los Angeles did state that they are open to the idea. It does look pretty interesting a pretty fun, but whether or not it will actually help ease traffic remains to be seen.

This Dating App Requires You To Be A Verified Twitter User

The idea behind verified accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other social media platforms is that it is to ensure that posts coming from that particular account are really from the people they say they are, and now it looks like a verified Twitter status could let you into an exclusive dating app.

Dating app Loveflutter has recently launched themselves together with a new app called BLUE where only users who have verified Twitter accounts are allowed to use it. As Mashable points out, the app has been in existence since 2013, but only recently relaunched itself with this new feature. While it does lend a somewhat exclusive feel to the app, it also helps ensure that users who use the app are who they say they are, meaning no more fake profiles, catfishing, or bait-and-switch instances.

It sounds like a good idea, but considering that out of all of Twitter’s users, about 200,000 or so are verified users, it does make the selection pool smaller. Not to mention we’re pretty sure that out of 200,000 or so, not everyone needs to or wants to use a dating app, or if they might even select BLUE to begin with given that there are plenty of other options out there such as Tinder and Tinder Select.

However if you are interested in signing up, you can start by trying to land yourself a verified Twitter account first.

Niantic Offers Explanation For The Failed Chicago Pokemon GO Fest

Not too long ago, Niantic attempted to hold a Pokemon GO event in Chicago to celebrate the launch of legendary Pokemon coming to the game. Unfortunately for Niantic, things did not end well as there were many issues plaguing the event, such as network and connectivity problems which prevented gamers from enjoying the game properly.

The company has since refunded gamers the cost of their tickets, and recently Niantic’s CEO John Hanke penned a blog post in which he explains in greater detail what happened and why things went south so quickly. According to Hanke, he claims that this was an issue on their end, although carriers are to blame as well.

Hanke writes, “Technical issues with our game software caused client crashes and interfered with gameplay for some users. The gameplay issue was resolved with a server configuration change and the crashes were also addressed for many but not all users. A more protracted problem was caused by oversaturation of the mobile data networks of some network providers. This caused many attendees to be unable to access Pokémon GO or other Internet services.”

However it seems that this experience has not deterred Niantic from future events. According to Hanke, the company will be learning from this experience and will be applying them to future events that will be held for later this summer in Yokohama, Japan and across Europe.

A Potential Fix For The Nexus 5X Bootloop Has Been Found

The bootloop issues plaguing Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P owners are pretty infamous to the point where last year LG reportedly refunded customers who tried to send their devices in for a repair. However the good news is that if you are still holding onto your Nexus 5X, the folks at XDA might have found a fix.

Apparently this fix is derived from a fix for the Nexus 6P which was discovered earlier this week. According to the post on XDA, “The general consensus here with these fixes seem to indicate that the Snapdragon 808/810 chipsets were rushed out by Qualcomm and have degraded to the point where they’re partially broken. The heat generation issues of the Snapdragon 810 is not something new, but it looks like the 808 is having a similar issue when it comes to what is causing the bootloops.”

It should be noted that the fix right now says that it is untested, but for XDA members who have decided to take the plunge, it seems to be working. It does involve quite a bit of steps which for those who aren’t technically proficient might be intimidated by. As XDA points out, a more elegant solution for this fix could be discovered in the future, but in the meantime if you don’t mind taking a run at it, especially if your Nexus 5X has been sitting in a drawer collecting dust, then head on over to XDA’s website for the tutorial.

Overwatch Reporting System Coming To Consoles Soon

While game masters and automated systems are in place to weed out players who are doing things they aren’t supposed to do, sometimes certain things are missed, and this is where player reporting comes in handy as it will allow the community to contribute towards making a game a better place for everyone.

Reporting features have been a staple in multiplayer games for a while now, and the good news for Overwatch gamers is that it looks like the feature will be making its way onto consoles soon. Plans to bring the reporting feature onto consoles was mentioned earlier this year, but a recent post on the Overwatch forums has revealed that Blizzard is close to taking the feature live.

The post reads, “We also remain committed to bringing a reporting system to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. As console players ourselves, we know it’s been frustrating to not have this functionality on your platform. We are actively working on the feature and have many elements of undergoing internal testing right now.”

In addition to this, Blizzard has also announced that they will be imposing stiffer penalties to players with bad behavior based on verified reports. Given the toxic nature of many online games, Blizzard has been doing their best to keep on top of things, which includes immediate and permanent banning of players caught cheating.

Premiere Date For Final Season Of Game Of Thrones Still Undecided

We’re only into the second episode of the second-last season of HBO’s Game of Thrones, which means that we’re one step closer to seeing how the series will end. Unfortunately if you were hoping and counting on the fact that 2018 will bring us the final season, there’s a good chance you might be disappointed.

Speaking at the 2017 summer TV Critics Association press tour, HBO president Casey Bloys stated that the premiere date for the final season is still pretty much up in the air. Bloys states that while the scripts for Season 8 have already been completed, showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are still storyboarding them in order to get a sense of how long it will take to film.

Bloys was quoted as saying, “It’s a big season. They’re trying to get a sense of how long it’s going to take them to shoot this.” While it will be a “big” season, Season 8 will feature less episodes compared to the previous seasons, six to be exact, which is less than Season 7 which will only have seven episodes.

This isn’t the first time that we’re hearing that Season 8’s premiere date is still undecided, and whether or not it will skip 2018 and launch in 2019 is anyone’s guess, but hopefully fans won’t have to wait too long, but even if they did have to wait, we doubt it the hype would be any less given how many times the Season 7 premiere was pirated.

HTC Vive standalone VR headset runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 835

Despite the surge of interest and content in consumer virtual reality, thanks to the likes of Oculus and HTC Vive, proponents quickly saw the technical limits of current technology and devices. For one, wands and sticks make for poor approximation of our hands. For another, these VR headsets keep us tethered to desks or, at the very least, laptops. The … Continue reading
