Half of the matter around us comes from distant galaxies

For a long time, the prevailing theory of sources of matter was that it was mostly local; the atoms that make up our planet and our bodies were from pretty close by. But now, researchers at Northwestern University have cast doubt on this hypothesis….

Alleged Nikon D850 Press Photos Leaked

Recently Nikon confirmed that they are working on a new camera that would be the successor to the Nikon D810. This will come in the form of the Nikon D850, and while the confirmation of the camera’s existence is great news, unfortunately not much is known about the camera or how it looks like, at least until now.

The folks at Nikon Rumors have managed to get their hands on what appears to be leaked press photos of the upcoming camera. For the most part it seems that the design of the camera hasn’t changed much, but then again DSLRs have largely sported similar-ish designs so we doubt that Nikon would have broken away from tradition.

However the photos, if real and accurate, shows off a tilting LCD display which is one of the camera’s rumored features. It also seems that the pentaprism used in the D850 differs from other Nikon DSLRs, like the Nikon D5 and the D810, the latter of which had a built-in pop-up flash, while the D850 seems to have done away with it.

The D850 will be a full-frame camera and its megapixel count is said to be between 45-46 megapixels, but Nikon hasn’t confirmed it yet. It is also rumored to sport the same AF system as the Nikon D5, and will feature an improved version of Snapbridge. There is no specific date on the full unveiling, so check back with us in the coming days/weeks for the details.

Just Like Apple, Amazon Reportedly Has A Secret Health Team As Well

Amazon might be known as an online retailer for all kinds of things you can think of, but the company also has some pretty big ambitions. For example we’ve seen how they’re trying to get into our homes with devices like the Dash buttons and the Amazon Echo series of smart speakers, and now it looks like Amazon could be interested in our health as well.

In a report from CNBC, word has it that Amazon has a secret health team that is dedicated to working on electronic medical records, telemedicine, and so on. This team is dubbed “1492” and is apparently named after the year that Columbus first landed in the Americas, although what that has to do with health/medicine is unclear.

It seems that taking health/medicine hi-tech and into the digital age seems to be popular these days. We have heard rumors that Apple also has a secret health team that are working on medical devices/sensors, like a blood-free glucose sensor for the Apple Watch. We’re not sure if Amazon has plans for wearables, but if they did then their 1492 team seems like a pretty good place to start.

The report claims that Amazon is also exploring how existing Amazon products, such as the Echo and Dash Wand, could have health applications. Perhaps devices like the Echo Show with its display could allow for users to hold video calls with their doctors, who knows? In any case take it with a grain of salt, but in case it wasn’t clear by now, Amazon’s ambitions are clearly beyond that of just being an online retailer.

The Phoozy Spacesuit Case Helps Regulate Your Phone’s Temperature

Unless you’ve bought a phone that was designed specifically to be used in extreme temperatures, for the most part “regular” smartphones don’t do so well in extreme cold or extreme heat. In fact some of you guys might have even experienced it on occasion where your smartphone shuts itself down due to it getting too hot.

Now if you’d like a smartphone case that can help you deal with extreme temperatures of either end, you might be interested in this spacesuit case called Phoozy. According to the company, “Adapted from spacesuit technology developed to protect astronauts in the harsh environments of space, PHOOZY is the world’s first thermal capsule that shields your phone from the sun, extreme heat and freezing cold.”

Basically this is a case that will keep your phone cool in extreme heat, but also keep it warm enough in extreme cold for it to still continue to function. Its creators are boasting that the case also provides military grade drop protection, and while it isn’t waterproof, it is apparently buoyant which means that if you drop it into water, it will stay afloat for you to quickly grab it before water starts to seep in.

The Phoozy case is available for a variety of smartphones, ranging from devices as small as the iPhone 5/iPhone SE, and up to phones the size of the Galaxy S8+.

Apple No Longer Replacing MacBook Pros That Need Battery Service With New Models

Recently you might have heard how some 2012/2013 MacBook Pros that needed battery replacements were actually being replaced by newer models. This is apparently due to a shortage in components in which Apple told customers that they could either way, or potentially get a newer model to replace their older one.

In some instances, some customers only had to pay $200 for the battery replacement fee and got themselves a brand new laptop. This is clearly a pretty amazing deal, but unfortunately it seems to have run its course. In an internal memo obtained by MacRumors, it looks like Apple is now instructing Genius Bar employees and Apple Authorized Service Providers that as of the 26th of July, the necessary components for battery replacements are now available, meaning that replacement models will no longer be given.

We suppose this shouldn’t really have come as a surprise given that it was probably costing Apple quite a bit of money to hand out replacement laptops for next-to-nothing (a $200 service fee is but a fraction of the cost of a brand new laptop). That being said, it also wasn’t exactly official as some users who have tried to get their laptops replaced were declined, so perhaps the replacements were also at the discretion of Genius Bar employees.

eBay Now Lets You Search For Items Using Photos

Companies such as Google and Pinterest allow users to search for items using photos. This means that if you see something you like in real-life, or an image on the web for an item of clothing that you want to buy, you can search using a photo or an image from the web. Unfortunately such functionality was not available on eBay, at least until now.

eBay has launched two new visual search features in the form of Image Search and Find It On eBay. The former basically lets users take photos of objects in real-life and use it to search for similar items on eBay. The latter feature will allow users to share URLs from websites with eBay and it will attempt to find for items that are similar to what you’ve just shared.

According to eBay, “To help people solve the challenge of spending hours scouring stores or the web for certain items, eBay applied artificial intelligence and machine learning technology. These technologies are already embedded across the eBay experience making the Marketplace’s vast product catalog easily searchable. As people continue to use eBay Image Search, eBay will be able to surface even richer results and filtering – from new, nearly new and used items.”

These new features are expected to be launched this coming fall, with Image Search being supported via the eBay app on iOS and Android, while Find It On eBay will only be available on Android at the time of launch.

Google Instant Search is dead and we have mobile to thank

It has been nearly seven long years since Google rolled out Instant Search, a feature that irritated a bunch of users early on by presenting search result pages as a user typed their query. You’ve no doubt gotten used to Instant Search by this point (if you haven’t disabled it entirely), but things are changing regardless: Google has killed the … Continue reading
