Google appears to be cooking up some new features for Chrome OS, the cloud-based operating system that powers Chromebooks. According to a new report, Google will soon bring text notifications to Chromebooks. This will provide users with access to their text messages on their notebooks.
A report from ChromeUnboxed mentions that a user has found a toggle in the developer version of Chrome OS. The toggle is called “SMS Connect.” The explanation provided alongside the toggle states that it allows users to get text notifications on their Chromebook.
The report further adds that before this feature can be activated, users have to activate another setting called “Enable Multidevice features.” Until and unless they do this, the SMS Connect toggle does not show up even in the developer version of Chrome OS.
Even though the feature has been listed in this particular version of the operating system, it doesn’t seem to be active just yet. It’s just a placeholder for now but it does suggest that this functionality may eventually become available on Chromebooks.
This isn’t the only new feature that is due to arrive on Chromebooks. Google is also paving the way to bring its artificial intelligence-powered Assistant to Chromebooks. It’s unclear at this point in time precisely when these features will be released.

Samsung is used to launching multiple variants of its flagship handsets so its customers aren’t really surprised when it does come out with them. The company is due to unveil the Galaxy Note 8 next month and while it hasn’t confirmed anything about the handset as yet, a new rumor suggests that there’s going to be an “Emperor Edition” variant of the upcoming flagship which will feature 256GB of onboard storage.
The standard model of the Galaxy Note 8 is said to feature 6GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. Samsung is rumored to launch the Emperor Edition alongside the standard edition. The only major difference is believed to be the internal storage at this point in time.
Samsung is said to offer the Emperor Edition in its home country of South Korea initially before eventually releasing it for customers in China as well. It’s unlikely that the company is going to sell this variant outside Asian markets.
It’s possible that Samsung might offer another variant in markets like North America, Europe, and South America. This particular variant is rumored to feature 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It may cost over $1,100. All variants are going to have support for external expansion via microSD card.
None of this is set in stone just yet so take the rumor with a grain of salt. Samsung is going to officially unveil the Galaxy Note 8 on August 23rd.

It wasn’t really a surprise when Warner Bros. confirmed that there’s going to be a Wonder Woman sequel. The first movie has been a bona fide hit. It has earned more than $385 million since it was released earlier this year. Gal Gadot will return to reprise her role as Diana Prince a.k.a Wonder Woman. The studio has also confirmed the Wonder Woman 2 release date now.
Patty Jenkins, the director of the first Wonder Woman movie, has not yet been confirmed as the director. However, talks with Jenkins are ongoing and it remains to be seen whether the studio will bring her back to lead the sequel.
The Wonder Woman movie has been performing better than any superhero movie at the North American box office in more than 15 years. It has earned over $385 million at the domestic box office so far and has passed Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
Before we see Gadot in another standalone Wonder Woman movie, she’ll take to the big screen as the superhero once again later this year in Justice League that’s due this November. Justice League features a bevy of superheroes including but not limited to Batman, Aquaman, and the Flash.
Warner Bros. has confirmed that the Wonder Woman 2 release date is December 13th, 2019.

The beloved 3.5mm headphone jack’s days are numbered, it seems. More and more flagship devices are ditching the jack as OEMs focus on making their devices thinner and lighter more than ever. Several renders of the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL have been leaked online today. The leaked renders suggest that Google’s next flagship devices will not have a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are said to feature a 4.95 and 5.99 inch display respectively with 4GB RAM and up to 128GB of storage. Additional specs include stereo speakers and Android O.
If the renders are believed, Google is going to remove the 3.5mm headphone jack from its next flagship smartphones. The renders also show that both handsets are going to have a slight camera bump. The bezels appear to be very slim and the handsets have dual front-facing speaker grilles.
As expected, the fingerprint sensor is positioned at the back alongside the single camera. Despite the fact that most flagship handsets are moving to dual camera systems, Google appears to be sticking with a single rear camera for the next-generation Pixel.
Since these renders come from an unofficial source it’s too soon to think that they fully represent what Google has in store for us. Google hasn’t confirmed as yet when it’s going to unveil the new handsets but it’s probably going to be a couple of months before the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are officially announced.

The USB Promoter Group has confirmed the USB 3.2 spec today. The main difference compared to the existing USB 3.1 spec is multi-lane operation on hosts and devices. This means double the bandwidth on existing SuperSpeed Type-C cables. In simpler terms, it’s going to allow for double the speed on SuperSpeed Type-C cables that are already out in the market.
The USB 3.1 spec was designed with single-lane use in mind for both hosts and devices. On the other hand, the SuperSpeed cables were designed with the express aim of multi-lane use. However, they weren’t able to fully take advantage of this because the prevailing spec didn’t allow devices on both ends to support multi-lane use.
This is obviously going to change with the new spec. All upcoming hosts and devices that are certified for the new USB spec will have support for multi-lane operation. This will enable existing cables to offer double the speed when connected to those devices.
Exising Gen 1 SuperSpeed USB cables will be able to offer 10Gbps transmission speeds compared to the existing 5Gbps. All existing Gen 2 cables will double their speed to 20Gbps.
The USB Promoter Group is in the process of finalizing the USB 3.2 spec and will publish it by September so that developers can follow the guidelines for their new products.
