James Cameron Looking At ‘Reinventing’ Terminator

James Cameron’s Terminator movie franchise is one of the classics in movie history, but it has also served as a rather poignant reminder to those in the tech industry that what seems like a fictional future could come true if we are not careful. While we wait and see whether or not a Skynet future is in the cards, until then we could be getting a reboot of the franchise.

In a recent interview with News.com.au, Cameron was asked about the franchise’s future, and whether or not it might have already run its course. According to Cameron, he believes that modern technology is starting to catch up to what was considered to be futuristic back then, and because of that perhaps it could be time to reinvent the franchise.

Cameron was quoted as saying, “I am in discussions with David Ellison, who is the current rights holder globally for the Terminator franchise and the rights in the U.S. market revert to me under U.S. copyright law in a year and a half so he and I are talking about what we can do. Right now we are leaning toward doing a three-film arc and reinventing it.”

However it seems that despite reinventing the franchise, it looks like the original Terminator Arnold Schwarzenegger will continue to be a part of it. Earlier this year the actor confirmed that a new Terminator movie is in the works, and that Cameron has some good ideas on how to proceed.

Modular Robotic ‘Eel’ Will Be Used To Look For Water Pollution

The ability for us to measure pollution levels in the water isn’t exactly new and we as humans have come up with various ways and tools to do so. However it seems that in the future, things could get a lot more efficient, thanks to the work done by researchers at the Swiss Federal Institute where they’ve created a robotic “eel” that can swim in water and detect pollution.

What makes this particular robot so unique is the fact that it is completely modular. What this means is that the body of the robot is comprised of various sensors that can measure all sorts of things. This also means that depending on the location and the data that scientists want to collect, they can pick and choose which sensors they want to use, making the robotic eel a highly adaptable device.

For example some of the sensors can be used to measure things like water conductivity and temperature, while other sensors might be chemical based, and some are biological based like fish cells grown on electrodes that refuse to touch each other should it come into contact with toxins (thus detecting possible toxic pollution).

The data collected by this little robot will then be sent back to a computer in real-time, and it can be programmed to follow a specific path, or it can be used to track down pollution on its own. So far testing of the physical and chemical sensors have been successful, with plans to start testing the biological sensors outside of the lab this summer.

Razer Unveils Two New Gaming Headsets

Headphones come in varying shapes and sizes, and sometimes it isn’t necessarily a one-size-fits-all solution. This is why when it comes to headphones designed for gaming, there are certain features and specifications that more hardcore gamers lookout for, at least compared to when shopping for “normal” headphones.

That being said for those in the market for new headphones, you’ll be pleased to learn that Razer has recently announced two new gaming headsets in the form of the Tiamat 7.1 V2 and the Tiamat 2.2 V2. Razer’s Tiamat headphones aren’t new, but these new models incorporate multiple audio drivers in them, which in theory should offer up gamers with richer sound quality and also better positional audio, which could be key when playing certain games where knowing where the enemy is coming from is important.

The Tiamat 7.1 V2 is the more high-end of the two headphones launched and will feature 10 audio drivers to help create “real” surround sound. This includes a 40mm subwoofer, two 30mm drivers, and two 20mm drivers in each earcup. Gamers who want the full experience will need to have four 3.5mm audio jacks available, but if you don’t have that many ports, not to worry as it can function as a regular 2.0 stereo headset.

As for the Tiamat 2.2 V2, it will offer up stereo sound as well as two additional 50mm drivers that will help deliver on the bass. It will be cheaper than the Tiamat 7.1 V2, which is priced at $200, while the Tiamat 2.2 V2 will retail for slightly less at $130.

Minecraft For The Nintendo Switch Is Getting A Visual Upgrade

Gamers might have heard that Minecraft will be getting a boost in the graphics department where an update will give the game a 4K upgrade. However it seems that based on the announcement, the Switch is being left out of the upgrade, which we guess isn’t surprising since the Switch’s hardware isn’t exactly the top-of-the-line.

However the good news is that the game will still be getting a visual upgrade because in an update to the game for the Switch, the changelog mentions that the game will now run in 1080p resolution while docked. Prior to this, Minecraft for the Switch was running at 720p, but as Eurogamer points out, even at 720p there were instances where the game struggled in terms of performance.

It is unclear what Microsoft might have done with the code of the game to allow it to run at 1080p, but hopefully it works without too much performance issues, but we guess this is something that Switch gamers will have to find out themselves. The update will also fix a bunch of bugs that were discovered in earlier builds.

That being said while Minecraft for the Switch won’t be getting upgraded to 4K, it is still expected to be made cross-platform compatible, meaning that gamers on the Switch will be able to play Minecraft with gamers on other platforms (save for the PS4).

14 Minutes Of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy Gameplay Footage Released

Towards the end of 2016, the folks at Naughty Dog announced Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. The game is meant to be a standalone story chapter that basically gives players a bit more content from the Uncharted universe and also a slightly different perspective from the main game.

For those who are curious to learn more about the game and to see how it plays, you might be interested to learn that Sony has since released about 14 minutes worth of gameplay footage onto YouTube, which you can check out for yourself in the video above. The description reads, “In order to find an ancient Indian artifact, Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross must venture deep into the Western Ghats mountains, discover the lost cities of the Hoysala Empire, and face a ruthless warmonger, Asav.”

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is currently scheduled for a release on the 22nd of August for the PS4. Unfortunately for gamers, The Lost Legacy could probably be the last we’ll be seeing from the Uncharted franchise, at least for the foreseeable future. Naughty Dog’s co-president Evan Wells had previously revealed in an interview that it is unlikely that the studio will be doing another Uncharted game after this.

Wells does not completely shut the door on the possibility as he says “never say never”, but perhaps until Naughty Dog has more concrete plans, fans of the franchise should probably not hold their breaths. In the meantime an Uncharted movie is in the works so we guess fans can look forward to that as well.
